  3. 1) How did the symptoms of gluten intolerance affect your day-to-day life? I was pretty sick most days. Very bloated, gassy, lots of irregular bowel movements, cramps, and brain fog. 2) How did you become aware of your intolerance to gluten or celiac disease? I went to the doctor, did a bunch of tests, tried a bunch of diets, had no luck. Then read on...
  4. Thank goodness for that!
  5. I can't think of any mainstream companies that are 100% gluten-free, but I do know that Kraft and McCormicks will list anything with gluten in any product.
  6. lol!! what brand did you buy, do you remember? how do y'all store you xanthan gum? i had someone tell me i need to keep it in the freezer. dunno if i can store 5 lbs in my freezer
  7. I clicked on an article about lactose intolerance on msn this morning, and it talks about celiac disease! Open Original Shared Link
  8. thanks y'all! it turned out GREAT!
  9. i hate it when companies change their products hope you get feeling better soon! hm, i've been using them quite regularly for the last 3 months, and have been fine. also, anyone know if you can build up an intolerance to lactaid? i feel lately like they're not working as well as they used to. still not full out dairy reaction, but definitely...
  10. i've used spice island, and just recently bought walmart's brand, with no problems. i don't think walmart's says gluten-free or not, but like dbmamaz said, i've always been under the assumption that most spices alone are gluten-free. never had any problems.

    ARCHIVED Mimi's Cafe

i just looked on their website, and couldn't find it. but i seem to remember either seeing a menu, or maybe getting a fax of their gluten-free menu. i keep meaning to go over and try, have heard lots of good reviews (from gluten-free eaters and non alike). anyone have any favorites to recommend?
  12. oooh, chocolate chips! sounds divine! which recipe did you use?

  14. i can relate. i don't have many friend here either. the only people i socialize with are my husband, my parents (over the phone), one of the girls i work with who is my age, and my next door neighbor (who is my mom's age). it can be kinda lonely. we live real close to a river trail, and i always say, oh i should go for a walk/bike ride...but i never do ...
  15. I was going to bake banana bread last night, got caught up doing something else, and had to postpone it. It was covered in the fridge all night. Would it still be ok to bake or not?
  16. Definitely yes! As far as the separate dishes/dishwasher - hubby is not gluten-free, and I don't seem to have a problem with that. In my opinion, scrubbing and washing well is good enough. I do change the sponges and dish towels very frequently though, and mostly use paper towels when drying my hands. However, I have had to start separating the cheese...
  17. you're welcome. hope you have great success, whichever recipe you go with
  18. i guess i kind of understand why she calls it an allergy. i often use the term allergy when explaining it to people, because they get bored if i go into a long explanation of how it's actually an intolerance....just to simplify things, i will say that i'm severely allergic to it and will become physically ill if i eat any. most people can understand/relate...
  19. I have to say that I LOVED nannying for a summer. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun, and very rewarding. I watched some really good kids though. Probably helped BTW, SAH/WAHM = stay at home/work at home mom i'm assuming?? just checkin' Hope you find something
  20. Just spent the last 5 minutes trying to figure out where to post this one kind of a combination thread. Bascially the title asks the question. I'm trying to figure out how to eat healthy, keep it gluten-free (and dairy free as much as possible since lactaid is expensive, and possibly ineffective for me now ), and stick to my budget. I also don't eat...
  21. lol very true!! You going anywhere else on your visit?
  22. Yes, I think this is probably what's happening. Once you get all that toxic gluten out of your system, it becomes very sensitive to it, as it is healing. I went through the same thing when I first started the gluten-free diet. Unfortunately, it doesn't go away. You just get to learn all the tricks of living with this, and how to most effectively avoid all...
