ARCHIVED Beware Helpful Mothers
Sweetfudge replied to mackmackmackie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Maltodextrin, even though it says "Malt" does not, in fact, contain malt, and should be gluten free. although I am writing from the states, and don't know what it's like internationally Being glutened by family is a bummer though I know....my MIL tries, but with three unruly children, CC happens! Good luck! -
The biopsy could be wrong. It isn't 100%....especially if you've been eating gluten-free, your insides may have had time to heal, and therefore the damage wouldn't show up on the tests! But I say as long as you're feeling better on the gluten-free diet, don't stop! You're listening to your body, and its telling you that something about eating gluten makes...

Yes, I am in my second year of college, and was diagnosed at the same time, and found myself very overwhelmed. I hadn't seen anyone in almost a year, but I found a counselor through the school, and I am feeling a lot better. I think it helps to have someone to talk to. I have also found that talking to people here, who understand what you're going through...

ARCHIVED New To This Only 3 Weeks Now
Sweetfudge replied to valzues's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Valerie! You came to the right place! I've spent countless hours here searching for answers and getting advice, and lots of support! As far as the pizza crusts go, I LOVE Gluten Free Pantry's french bread and pizza mix. It tastes very much like regular pizza crust. Also, give Chebe a try. It's made with tapioca flour, so it's a little squeaky on... -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving...3 1/2 Weeks Away And I Am Already Stressed
Sweetfudge replied to Sissy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
i am also fretting about my first gluten-free thanksgiving dinner... mostly i am worried about where to go, and how to not offend anyone. my in laws will probably invite us over, but whenever i've dined at their place, i've gotten sick, even when we've eaten a *gluten free* meal. i know it's CC issues, but i don't know how to approach this. i also have... -
ARCHIVED Cheese Cake With Nut Crust
Sweetfudge replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
i bet you could make the cheese cake with a cookie crumb crust! just take some gluten-free cookies, and make 'em crumbly (in a blender)....that would be like a graham cracker crust, only better! i know Pamela's shortbread cookies are good when crumbled on ice cream...those would probably work! -
ARCHIVED My Seven Year Old Hates His Diet
Sweetfudge replied to GraceA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this lifestyle can be overwhelming, but it is possible! On the days when you can't force yourself to cook, that's when you turn to the freezer! At least that's what I do. I have chronic depression as well, and I know what it's like, and how frustrating it can be when dinner time rolls around. But I really love cooking, so when I am in a baking mood... -

Sweetfudge replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
haven't tried the bread yet, but a few weeks ago, a bunch of our friends got together for "Crepes Night"....in the past, I've just kinda sat back and munched on fruit, but this time, i was surprised when my cousin, who was hosting, presented me with a bag of Pamela's pancake mix. she proceeded to make mine in a pan seperate from everyone elses and they were... -

Sweetfudge replied to vanesonica's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i also am a fan of the spinach and feta pizza. i put some tomatoes and some canadian bacon on top of mine before baking. only one note, be careful w/ the crust, it burns easily. i watch mine the last few minutes so it doesn't. they have the pizzas at my health food store, which is so nice i looked on amazon .com...they have about 25 glutino products (do... -
I don't think mine are related...I was diagnosed w/ hypoglycemia 15 years ago, and only developed celiac about 2 years ago. I found it difficult to maintain my blood sugar levels without my wheat bread staples But like tarnalberry said, the key is to balance your proteins, carbs and fats. I eat a lot of rice and potatoes, some gluten-free pasta, but not...

Okay here it is! I know I've raved about this recipe before and I've finally taken the time to type it up for all of y'all!! Recipe taken from "The Gluten-Free Bible" by Jax Peters Lowell (pg. 141) This cheesecake isn't as sweet and heavy as typical varieties. It can be baked in 4 individual 4-inch springform pans or in one 8-inch springform pan....

ARCHIVED Need Crockpot Recipes
Sweetfudge replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just FYI - if something says to cook on high for 4 hours, it can also be cooked on low for 8 hours...just double the time . And nothing I've ever made has gotten overcooked by leaving it in on low for longer than planned. I love making roast beef - i'll make it w/ some potatoes, onions, carrots, and mushrooms. I'll serve it w/ rice, or just as is. i also... -

ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla Roll-ups
Sweetfudge replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
yes, warm them up in the mic...also, if that doesn't work, cover them with a damp paper towel when you nuke them, that softens them as well. and tortillas usually get more crumbly as they get older... -
ARCHIVED Monosodium Glutamate <--that's Msg, Right?
Sweetfudge posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey all - I'm kind of having a brain fog day...I think it's due to hypoglycemia though, and not CC...I hope. Difficult to tell as it is also that time of the month and I get ill for a few days. Anyway, couldn't bear to sort through the archives, so I just thought I'd refresh the question. Thanks -
