Sweetfudge replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My Thanksgiving dinner was PERFECT! Being my first ever thanksgiving prepared fully by ME, I was a bit nervous, but all went well! We had: Turkey (stuffed with some veggies and half an apple! So tender!!!) Turkey gravy (I was amazed at how delish it was!) Mashed potatoes Ham (bought a couple slices of boars head...yummy!) Green beans... -

I bet turkey is really cheap right now at the grocery stores I bought a butterball young turkey, called the company while in the store to guarantee gluten-free, and it was like, $1.05/lb...bet they're half off today!! My favorite thing to do has always been just to have lots of "thanksgiving dinner" meals afterward...we've had about 3 in the last 2... -

Cool Ranch Doritos, Thai Kitchen peanut noodles, peanut butter, Mission Tortillas and Tortilla Chips Don't know if you have a walmart near by, but they are great about labeling their brand (Great Value) Gluten free or not. There's lots of great things they have - canned foods, meats, etc. -

Hear hear! I truly believe I am blessed. I am glad that I have a disease that I can treat by myself! I am also very thankful for all the people who lived this lifestyle before me, and made it easier to be a Celiac today! -
ARCHIVED Dizzy All The Time...
Sweetfudge replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When my blood sugar is low, I get shaky too. And headachey. My hourly snack has been raw almonds and fruit...maybe I'll have to change that. I am going to have to look into adrenal fatigue. That could very well be it. Especially when I eat all the things I usually eat to calm my hypoglycemia, and it doesn't work. -
Title pretty much sums it up. I'm dizzy all the time. Sitting here at the computer. When I stand up, I get really bad vertigo. Sometimes feel on the verge of passing out. This is really frustrating. I've been hypo for nearly 15 years, and been good at dealing with it...maybe it's this diet? I've been struggling with celiac disease, finding good food, filling...

Thank you all for the great ideas! I think I just need to put in more preparation time, cuz I'm always waiting until I'm hungry, then there doesn't seem to be anything to eat, and I get frustrated and hypoglycemic sick. I'll have to start freezing more! Guhlia, does your mac and cheese taste creamy? Or is it just cheese on top of pasta? WHere do...

omg, twice baked potatoes are the best food on earth! you bake your potatoes in the oven, when they're done, you pull them out, cool them, then half, and scoop out the insides. mix the insides in a bowl w/ some milk and cheese and butter, then put back in the skins, and bake some more until the cheese is melty. SOOO GOOD!

I know I'm not the only Thanksgiving noob here, and my mom called me last night to remind me that if I have a frozen turkey, it needs at least 2 days in the fridge to defrost. Didn't want anyone elses thanksgiving ruined by having stone cold turkey disasters, so I just thought I'd state the obvious Have a nice day!

Triticus - I love the pic! That's hillarious! I really like going to the smaller stores around here, as they do seem to have more. I have actually thought about getting a job at one, since our current financial situation is dwindling, that way I could get a discount! Although I must say that Walmart has tons of good cheap food, and they're great about... -

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Soup Recipe?
Sweetfudge replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried to make this from memory the other night, and it turned out more like creamy mashed potatoes w/ bacon in it. Kept adding more milk to make it soupy-er, but was still really thick. Tasted good though! Anyone ever get sick of the smell of bacon in their kitchen? It makes me ill sometimes when I make it so I can't stand to eat it.... -

I eat at home every day, but I just don't feel like there's anything to eat. Normally I go from something mexican (nachos, burritos, salad, tostadas)...to chili, baked potatoes, maybe a pizza. But I feel so bored with food these days. Especially at lunch. I'm okay with dinners, usually, though. Any ideas would be great!

i'm a turkey day noob...as far as making gravy, how much "drippings" do you need? is there a difference in taste/texture using potato starch, sweet rice flour and cornstarch? just trying to figure out which one i should use...or maybe i'll make a small batch of each and go w/ the best one...lol
