  1. Considering that you have to ingest wheat to cause a reaction, a Celiac would have to feed their dog wheat, then have the dog lick them and somehow would put the licked body part in their mouths?????????? This is how a reaction would happen unless you have a topical allergy, which I could totally understand to be a problem. You people really worry about...
  2. It is correct that you cannot absorb gluten through the skin...doctors have that correct BUT a progesterone cream is formulated to BE absorbed through the skin. It might be something in the cream that is aggravating her...especially since people with DH have additional skin sensitivities.
  3. Actually, that book should be required reading by everyone with a gluten problem. It is full of excellent information that would benefit many. Then we wouldn't have people being scared by those who think there is gluten in vegetables! Or that everything is contaminated with gluten!
  4. No...I highly doubt you are being cc'd by Pacific products. I use their Almond Milk all the time and have never had the slightest issue with any Pacific product. Many, many Celiacs use them without issue. I am really sensitive also..I get sick from mere crumbs so I always know when I have ingested anything I shouldn't. In fact, it's been about 6 months...
  5. Xanthan gum is never derived from wheat. It is derived from sugars, with a specific bacteria added to cause fermentation. Many Celiacs, including myself, can be sensitive to gums but it has nothing to do with wheat gluten. It can cause the same reaction as a gluten hit but it is not.
  6. Hi Carolyn, I use Digest Gold everyday and they are gluten free. I am a very sensitive Celiac but have had no problems with these at all. I know other Celiacs who use Digest Gold without issue also. I highly doubt they have cc issues because I use them up to 2 times per day and am doing well with them. I would be sick if there were a problem with...
  7. I am sorry to hear about your wife's suffering...shingles is no fun. I would highly recommend taking the antiviral Acyclovir for it as it helps cut way down on the length of time the outbreak occurs. However, you have to begin the antiviral within 72 hours of first break-out or it doesn't work that well. Also, use the straight up Acyclovir as it is an older...
  8. You'll never convince me that having gluten sensitivity "only" does not lead to intestinal damage. My husband is presenting EXACTLY the same way I did and I am a confirmed by diagnosis, full blown Celiac. He has always had low body weight, was losing weight until he went gluten free and tried to have blood work done but the doctor screwed the panel up and...
  9. Unfortunately, you have to doctor shop until you find one who listens to you and treats by symptoms as well as keeping track of your labs. It really is ridiculous what most people with autoimmune problems have to do to get good medical care these days. You have to learn as much as you can about your condition and then be vocal at the doctors office. Personally...
  10. Well, I'll be damned! I never thought I would meet another person with the same autoimmune problems I have! All 4 of the same! Here is what I do know.....the thyroid presents in much the same way as Celiac and all those other autoimmune diseases in that you can be really symptomatic but your labs can be normal. This is the way of autoimmune disease and...
  11. All I can say is....if you have Sjogren's and Hashi's, then you most likely have Celiac, especially since you have some GI symptoms. I have both of these issues, along with Celiac and Reynaud's, and you don't just develop them without an underlying cause. As to whether or not you'll need supplementation, it all depends on how long you have these problems...
  12. The reason you may feel cold after eating is because blood is drawn to the stomach muscles to aid in digestion and certain foods and hard physical exercise will inhibit that response. Reynaud's may do the same thing as it constricts the blood flow, usually to extremities but may also affect the stomach. I have Reynaud's, along with 3 other autoimmune diseases...
  13. This is such a timely topic for me and I thank Sandsurfgirl for making this statement. I am a full blown, officially diagnosed Celiac, via blood work which came back off the charts. I am extremely lucky to be able to say that but, quite honestly, even if my blood work came back negative, I would still have gone gluten-free because I was literally on the...
  14. Open Original Shared Link Here is the link for the enzymes I use. They are not cheap, unfortunately, but work very, very well. I was also having a problem with mucus and started research on it and found that it's cause can be undigested food. Well...that made sense as a Celiac. So I bit the bullet and tried these. It cleared up the problem. I also...
  15. The TMI part of your post is from undigested food. When you sustain a gluten hit, that food you ate just does not get digested and then you have that end result. I started taking digestive enzymes with meals and it made a huge difference in the "end" result. I even take one after a gluten hit, although those don't happen much at all anymore. Taking enzymes...
  16. Thank you, Sylvia...you beat me to it! I should add that whenever I state something on this website regarding the safety of a food product, I always have done my homework on the product and either have called them or find info like this on their website. Maybe in future I will make sure to provide a link to the site to put others at ease. There is enough...
  17. Any product that contains barley will cause a reaction in any Celiac...except for those who are asymptomatic in general. It would be the equivalent of ingesting wheat. We all have made these mistakes in the beginning and it's part of the learning process. However, try not to become terrified of food because there are many gluten-free products which are...
  18. If your mouth and/or eyes are dry enough that you are noticing it, then there is a strong possibility that you may have Sjogren's Syndrome. I have Sjogren's and there isn't much you can do for it except keep yourself hydrated, chew gum to encourage saliva production and use Biotene mouthwash, which is made specifically for those with extreme dry mouth. ...
  19. McCormick's single spices are gluten free and will clearly label any of their products that contain wheat. The vast majority of Celiacs can use them without issue.
  20. Bonnie...I am a very tough person emotionally but your bravery and good spirits leave me in awe. I am one of those very thin celiacs who was close to a feeding tube at diagnosis so can understand totally your concern over possibly having one. Eating every 2 hours sounds like a fantastic plan and I hope the weight sticks to your frame with every bite...
  21. The stuff they use for impressions is gluten free. I should know, I am the queen of dental work and had many, many impressions done. I called many companies and what they do use in these preparations are gums....xanthan gum most usually. A person can have reactions from too big a hit with gums. I did. So if you are sensitive to xanthan or guar gum,...
  22. My dearest Cypressmyst...I too, beg to differ on your point. While I do not doubt that if I ate soy protein it would most assuredly turn up in my pooh, it would only be a problem if I was allergic or intolerant of soy and ate the pooh! Based on your statements, anyone with a soy intolerance should never eat eggs, meat, chicken, etc. I guess all of us sensitive...
  23. Caroline.....liver malfunction can result from Celiac Disease...it's one of the most common related issues. My liver enzymes were elevated prior to diagnosis and are fine now that I am gluten-free. There was a lot of inflammation in my liver which has now totally resolved. Sounds like this herbalist is not a doctor and just the step of going gluten-free...
  24. Peter...I admire you for your diplomatic attitude! I never like to disparage anyone with food allergies and intolerances as I am pretty darn sensitive to gluten myself but worrying about what the animals are eating if their manure is used as fertilizer borders on the neurotic. There is just no valid medical science behind this line of thought. I realize...
  25. I wouldn't count on the Good Housekeeping Institute for medical advice. This has been discussed at length on this forum and what it boils down to is personal choice. You have to ingest gluten into the gut for it to cause an autoimmune reaction. Into the gut does also mean in the mouth, up your nose or in your eyes. If you have cosmetics or medicines that...
