  1. None of Dr. Fine's work is recognized by any valid medical institution, with good reason. You cannot test for food intolerance's through stool testing. The only valid testing they do is gene testing for Celiac because that's well established testing and everyone's doing it. Trying to test for Celiac or NCGI through Enterolab is a complete waste of money...
  2. Many, many Celiac's have no problem with either whey or soy so people should not cut out either unless they have a known problem with them. I have Hashi's thyroid disease, on top of Celiac, and eat soy with no problems. It is a good source of protein for those who want to limit their consumption of meat.
  3. Here is an article, albeit short, about Myocarditis and Celiac disease. I have read before about a connection between the two and A-Fib is another one that can happen with undiagnosed Celiac. From one over-thinker to another......its the inflammation thing, along with maybe some genetic components to it. I can't remember how long you have been gluten-free...

    ARCHIVED Dental Hell!

I have 2 insurance policies, one with my husband's company and one through mine. I also stretch out the more major work into the next year, so I can make the most use of my benefits. So, a dental implant for me takes about a year for me to complete. I have the post put in at the end of one year and the tooth made about 6 months later. Honestly, the insurance...
  5. Hi Jen.......first the high total IgA. I am not a doctor but am going by my experience. I failed all but one of the tests by huge numbers and never went for the endoscopy. The one that was normal, funny enough, was the tTg IgG but my AGA IgG was very high. Celiac testing can be really bizarre. I am an adult and was really sick at time of diagnosis so skipped...
  6. We do not have to worry about what animals eat in their diet as this will not cause a Celiac reaction.
  7. I think with cancer, the thing to be worried about is "monoclonal". With polyclonal gammopathy, that is more of an indication of infection or inflammation. I know this because I had elevated protein levels in my blood at Celiac diagnosis, which really makes sense because with Celiac, you are reacting to proteins, which in turn cause all sorts of inflammation...
  8. I have found that eating out successfully while being strictly gluten free is highly dependent on where you live. Some areas of the country (US) are much more gluten-free friendly than others but a few simple rules should help you to find a safe place to eat when not at home. I ma very sensitive also and have the same problem you do when I am glutened....
  9. Hi icelandgirl! This tester was developed by MIT graduates and I work for MIT so I could not resist. Some of the developers have food allergy issues themselves so this is why they focused on doing this. They didn't actually say Celiac but I am guessing it is. I wrote to them and thanked them for doing this and if it proves to be a success, think how that...
  10. I don't eat cold cereal at all because I just don't like cold cereals but my husband eats them because I won't allow gluten in the house. I have one of those NIMA food testers on order and when I get the thing, I am going to test those damn Cheerios. NIMA tests to 20ppm's so I'll let you all know what happens! As you can see, I am looking for things to...
  11. Where do you get these articles? There is some very wrong info in here. 1) All oats should be avoided if you have Celiac Disease. Certified gluten-free oats are very safe for some with Celiac Disease and I think that has been firmly established in Celiac world. 3) Here we go again with the distilled vinegar issue. It is safe and the only...
  12. There is just so much wrong with this article, it's ANNOYING. I think if you have Celiac Disease and are symptomatic, then it is not hard to stick to the diet long term. I don't know about you but having diarrhea and vomiting just isn't on my list of fun things to do, not to mention the severe anxiety and myriad of other symptoms that rear their ugly heads...
  13. Hi Matijas! Usually when someone with a gluten issue goes strictly gluten free, their GI problems improve right away, as far as severity goes. There are some who have ongoing issues for awhile but with trapped gas, that might be something which dissipates more quickly.....no pun intended there! I know when I was an undiagnosed Celiac, I had the same...
  14. I did not re-test my antibodies for a full year after diagnosis but I think your daughter should be checked again in 6 months. If she does have celiac, and I really am sure she does regardless of what this doc seems to think, they should decrease in 6 months. If she is fast healer, they could potentially be in the normal range but it varies from person...
  15. No, I did not state anything about exact conditions and lesser exposure. The study focused on animal feed, which did contain gluten, and how some people had reactions from exposure in confined spaces while feeding animals. Comparing that study to exposure from a wheat field is apples and oranges. I have yet to find any reputable literature on whether living...
  16. After reading these few posts, I really think it all depends on where you live and the doctors attitude about the whole process. I think a biopsy is not always needed. It depends on the circumstances and symptoms, etc. Sometimes it is harder to piece together a proper diagnosis while other times it's so obvious. Many people now do not even have GI issues...
  17. Not to beat a dead horse here but I looked at the linked article you provided and it talked about exposure to animal feed in enclosed spaces, not driving or walking near wheat fields on a windy day. Unless you are a farm hand, feeding cattle or horses with gluten containing feed in an enclosed, non-well ventilated area, it's not an issue. The Fasano...
  18. Have you seen a doctor to figure out what is wrong? If you don't know for certain you have Celiac, then you don't know what really is wrong. The situations you listed for being glutened should not cause any reaction, no matter how sensitive you think you may be. You need to ingest it to cause a reaction and cannot be glutened from walking past a bakery...
  19. Puffy eyes can be from allergy or can be from thyroid disease........which occurs frequently with Celiac. I am not saying he has thyroid disease but puffiness under the eyes is a classic symptom of low thyroid. When your metabolism is slowed down from a sluggish thyroid, fluids can collect in places like under the eyes, in your lungs and other places. I...
  20. I have both Hashi's and Celiac and it is about 98% certain your daughter has Celiac. My tTg was as high as your daughter's at diagnosis for Celiac.......Kareng is correct in that it is only mildly elevated with thyroid disease, not off the charts elevated. The doctors should have done a complete Celiac panel, for future reference when checking antibody levels...
  21. I think it all depends on where you live. I live in Boston, Mass. and we have many Celiac specialty research/hospital clinics here. I have been gluten-free for 11 years and not one doctor I have ever seen since diagnosis ever doubted I had Celiac. Once they took a look at my blood panel, they agreed there was no doubt. If a doctor doubts the diagnosis...
  22. Considering the amount of foods that you need to omit, I doubt you will find many, if any, that are safe for your daughter to consume. Most people, even sensitive ones like myself, only need to omit gluten and maybe one other food group and for that, there are many carb foods that are safe. I have been gluten-free for many years and don't know of any that...
  23. Now if only the apple cider donuts were gluten free, life would be perfect!
  24. You know, cstark, you are young, you will heal. People often overthink this and obsess about what they are eating. Follow a good, healthy gluten-free diet which can include official gluten free foods. If you find that you don't feel well after eating certain items, then exclude them for now. Many, many people do just fine and do not have to follow uber strict...
  25. Very good advice here........ I was going to suggest the EMA but that is an expensive test because it has to be done by a technician and not a machine. I guess they figured they would rather make the money themselves from the biopsy......
