  1. You know, marren....you are very intelligent! Right away, you connected the high tTg and intestinal damage to your low Vit. D, iron and bone density. These are the clues to help you figure out your status on Celiac.....clues that most doctors blow off unless they really think you have Celiac. Most mainstream docs will freak with TSH levels below 1...
  2. Exactly! I think the whole problem here is that the medical profession refuses to diagnose people unless they have Marsh III damage. We all know that, unless you have severe patchy damage, it is very easy to miss. So, many have the beginnings of Celiac but have to wait, like I did, until they have maximum damage, even though they are popping the antibody...
  3. I hope these 2 links will be of some help to you. I give you credit......I don't think I could go off to Russia like you while trying to be gluten free! You are gutsy! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  4. The tests you were elevated on were the tTg/IgA and that tests for intestinal damage. The other test was the AGA/IgA and that tests for the reaction to gluten you are eating....and you are reacting to it. It is the older test for it, which was done on me 12 years ago. There is a newer version of that same test called the DGP but there seems to be some...
  5. You know, marren........there are no false positives with numbers that high. False positives are quite rare anyway and have more to do with other autoimmune disease. Yes, tTg can be elevated with thyroid disease but it generally would not be that high. You have high results for the test that checks for reaction to the gluten you are eating (DGP) and VERY...
  6. Excellent! I figured she wouldn't stay home too long. Kids like to be with their friends. This may definitely be the point where she turns it around and her health goes in an upward motion more often than not. You are making progress!
  7. OK....so you deserve the gold medal for quality parenting.......which is rare today! The fact that you knew those "diagnoses" may not be correct and are waiting for the diet to sort things out is phenomenal. It is difficult to push back with doctors but no 13 year old should be medicated for things that are symptoms of an underlying problem. Both are known...
  8. All of my numbers were more than 10X the normal limit given for normal ranges. Normal ranges can vary from lab to lab but most are anything under 20 is normal. I have been gluten-free for 12 years and have noticed on repeat testing that some labs have tightened up that number to below 5 or 10 being normal, especially on the AGA/IgA or the newer DGP test....
  9. We get what you are saying even if the rest of the wheat eating world doesn't!
  10. When the tTg and EMA (Endomysial) are positive, the likelihood of it being Celiac is about 99%. They never say 100% because doctors will never do that unless they have a picture of your damaged small intestine in their hands. No other disease will cause a positive on an EMA...it is specific to Celiac. You have blood work that looked like mine and I was...
  11. I hear ya on that one! I have heard stories of many people who start fighting while under light sedation and I just think it is a survival instinct when you are having something put down your throat. Luckily, I did not need one because I failed the Celiac test panel by huge numbers and presented as a classic Celiac.....malnourished and severely underweight...
  12. The tester works very well but it can not test soy sauce. It doesn't work for a few things that are fermented. Unless you have a bottle labeled gluten free Tamari, then it will contain gluten. Open Original Shared Link Chinese food places are far more difficult to eat at for Celiac's. They would have to use dedicated woks and gluten-free tamari sauce...
  13. I have the same "problem", if you want to call it that. I really believe that once you change your diet and eat clean, your body responds to it in a way that many people never experience because they eat such crappy diets. I think all the food additives and garbage they use in processed foods affects taste and smell much in the way you can have lesser taste...
  14. Ha, Ha! I did the same thing. I guess when you come back from the brink just by changing your diet, it seems so miraculous that you have to share the knowledge. Except that many people don't want to hear it. I know people who are basically unable to work and lead a normal, fun life because of their health issues but they will not get tested or clean up...
  15. So....a miracle has happened in your family???????? I wish my brother hadn't been so deep in denial because maybe he would still be alive today. I am so happy for you! Isn't it amazing to see validation and "that look" on a family members face when they finally get it? Your sister sounds just like mine. Angry and tired all the time. Says she couldn...
  16. It is such an epiphany moment when you realize how many of your little problems are connected to gluten. Same thing happened to me after I was diagnosed and went gluten free. Of course, my family think I am insane and apparently prefer to have all their little problems forever, rather than go gluten free. My sister has carpal tunnel and wears a brace at...
  17. The DGP test is much newer than 10-12 years old. I was diagnosed in 2005 and it did not exist then. It was not added to my repeat testing until 2015 by the lab I use which is more progressive than most hospital labs. If the test is so unreliable, than why is it still used? Maybe they should revert back to the AGA IgA/IgG tests, which was widely used when...
  18. That's what I thought you meant because it did make me laugh. Now, if red wine could only be made to hydrate the body, life would be perfect!
  19. Has water been classified as a vitamin? Did I miss that memo? As far as the correct amount to drink everyday to accommodate different body sizes, I was told it's half your body weight in ounces. Not everyone needs to drink 8 glasses per day. You also have to count that you get a certain amount from food, especially fruit. The easiest way to see if...
  20. I am not so sure about taking Betaine HCL if you have too much acid production. You are countering with PPI's but if it were me, I would go to a really good digestive enzyme. I used them for quite awhile after diagnosis and they are more specific than Betaine.....they include the enzymes which help digest protein, carbs, etc. I had the same problem as you...
  21. Because of my many dental issues due to Celiac and Sjogren's, I am an avid flosser. What I learned is that even the flavored dental floss is perfectly safe for us. The only issue would be flavorings used like the mint floss, of which I use every day. Flavorings can but rarely do contain gluten. According to Celiac Disease experts, chances of there being...
  22. I'm sure your advice is well meaning, Ruth, but some of it is not true. Lipstick most definitely, along with hand lotion, should always be gluten free....for obvious reasons. Not all people need to screen all their make-up and hair products, though. If you feel that you will ingest shampoo while washing your hair, then by all means make it gluten free...
  23. The comments by cyclinglady and kareng are spot on. Mushrooms and strawberries are safe for Celiacs, unless surrounded by a cream sauce or cake that is not gluten free. Jane Anderson is, I believe, a chiropractor and has always been an alarmist with regards to gluten. She thinks it is everywhere and we know that is not true. This debate has been going...
  24. All of the bone meds are not recommended for younger people. Too many people had serious side effects from them. My doctor actually said she would not recommend them and I was near to 50 when she said that. Exercise, exercise, exercise is what they want people to do and it will stop osteoporosis in younger people, even without hormones. But you gotta...
  25. I swear the gluten-free diet works wonders with thyroid problems. I do not have nodules but my thyroid was wonky and I had sky high antibodies until I went on the gluten-free diet. Good thing the Celiac was discovered or I would have never known how it can help the thyroid. You are right, cyclinglady......they should tell people to get tested first, considering...
