  1. Oh, no.......oats are what I am lucky with, not lottery tickets. Never get more than 1 number. You know, after 12 years gluten free, most people should not be getting glutened even occasionally, if you are strict and don't take chances. I can't be the only one. I generally don't eat out much at all but when I indulge, I frequent the same 2-3 places that...
  2. If you have skin issues with Celiac like DH, then they may not work for you at all. It doesn't take much to make DH come back...people seem to be very sensitive to many things when they have DH. You had a negative reaction so I can't blame you for staying away from oats. I just wanted to point out that certified oats work for many and not everyone...
  3. Certified gluten-free oats are safe, Victoria! If you are diagnosed with Celiac and try them for the first time and have problems, then wait and re-try in a few months. But many people can tolerate them just fine, including me. It is so different with everyone. I did not wait a year to try them, either, and my gut was totally trashed at diagnosis. Funny...
  4. This might be of help: http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/newlist.htm The list was updated on 4/28/2017. The manufacturer won't guarantee gluten-free status of Synthroid but that does not mean there is gluten in the hormone's additives.
  5. Just to clarify what you are saying to make sure I have it right.......do you mean that someone with Celiac following a gluten free diet can test for a weak positive on the DGP or, on re-test, it is not zero but registers low normal? If someone has a weak positive on re-test, then they are ingesting small enough amounts that it is pushing their blood work...
  6. The lab I used was Genova Labs and they are a pretty progressive lab, with regards to testing. They bill using a Pay Assure system, where you pay up front a certain amount set by the Lab and then they bill your insurance company. If the insurance company pays out, then you get a refund. If they refuse payment, then the amount you paid is what they accept...
  7. If you are referring to the AGA/IgA and IgG testing, those tests are still used in repeat antibody testing for dietary compliance, along with the newer DGP. The lab I use always runs both. Neither test will show positive unless you are reacting to the gluten in your diet that you are consuming. Other AI issues will not show up on Gliadin testing but will...
  8. With the 3 positives that you have, Jenna, you have Celiac Disease. Positive tTg and EMA is a slam dunk. At this point, if you do the biopsy, you don't need it for diagnosis. It will be to check for extent of damage. Considering your health issues, it's pretty apparent you have a gluten problem anyway. Congratulations on figuring out your problem....
  9. These 2 tests are basically the same test except the newer version, the deamidated gliadin test, is more sensitive than the older version. Both tests are valid and very useful when included in a Celiac panel. I was diagnosed via blood work using the older test as I was diagnosed 12 years ago. But I have both tests run when doing antibodies every once in...
  10. I am sensitive also and take this diet very seriously but there are people like Jane Anderson who say things that no Celiac organization would back up. Just plain crazy stuff. Regardless of whether you have DH or are a sensitive Celiac, no one should put themselves into a bubble to live. Mental health is just as important as physical health. As for the...
  11. I would have to agree with these statements although I think Jane Anderson rarely has good points to make. She who thinks everything is contaminated and gives people the impression Celiac's need to live in a bubble.
  12. Here's what I tell people who have not been diagnosed long.......it is perfectly OK to eat gluten free bread after diagnosis IF it agrees with you and does not produce or aggravate existing symptoms. The blanket statement that eating anything processed right away will slow down healing is just not true for everyone. Sorry, but it isn't. As one of the...
  13. Nice to see another poster who doesn't live with extreme food fear. If people want to believe that everything is contaminated, I have no problem with that. To each his own. I am a sensitive Celiac who has to be very careful but also learned what reality is with the food I eat. With certain foods and drink, cc is so unlikely its not worth getting your knickers...
  14. I am going to have to say it and then I will say no more. This website is literally filled with people who give the most current, up to date information on Celiac Disease. We take it very seriously here. It is also difficult to dispense information on the web when everyone has different health issues tied to Celiac BUT I know personally we have helped...
  15. I never said I was the sole source of experience with gluten and I will forgive your snarkiness because I understand you are not well. I will also forgive your comment about being a careless Celiac because you do not know me, you do not know that I almost died from this disease and I can pretty much guarantee you that I am as careful as a Celiac can be with...
  16. AristotlesCat. I have not been freely drinking just any coffee and stick to a couple of brands, for taste preference. But when I travel and they ask me if I want a cup of coffee after the meal, I do not grill them on where they get the beans from. In 12 years, I have never been glutened or cc'd by coffee and that is not a really astounding fact. Most...
  17. ....and if this were actually a real problem in life, Celiac organizations would be warning us to find gluten free, certified coffee. This is overkill and it really misinforms and scares people. The vast majority of Celiac's do not have to follow the Fasano diet. We heal well on the standard, strict gluten-free diet. Key word....strict, with no cheating...
  18. You will never find certified gluten-free coffee because coffee is naturally gluten free. In 12 years of being gluten-free and many, many cups of coffee later, I have never been cc'd by coffee either. It is highly doubtful that coffee would be cc'd. However, coffee is an irritant to the gut so maybe you should just stop drinking if for awhile to see...
  19. Actually, my advice was accurate. Digest hair? Maybe you do but I am pretty sure I do not digest hair. My hair is somewhat short and doesn't blow into my mouth so maybe for people with longer hair who get it in their mouth on a regular basis, it might be prudent to screen hair products. You really only have to screen them if you get them in your mouth...
  20. Although this was an incredibly informative and great post, I only took exception to one thing you said and that is what I put in bold lettering above. Eating gluten free is very healthy, if done correctly. The Western American diet is very unhealthy but it doesn't have to be either. If you feel badly after being on the gluten-free diet for awhile, you either...
  21. Emma.........I also have Reynaud's. It did improve on the gluten-free diet so symptoms are not as severe as they were when I not diagnosed with Celiac. Remember....all this BS is caused by too much inflammation in the body, which the root cause of is Celiac. Tame down inflammation with the right diet and symptoms lessen for everything else. That was my...
  22. Hi Dee....good to see you back! I am sorry about the Type 1 diabetes diagnosis that your daughter had. You do know that those with Type 1 are at increased risk of having Celiac also. If your daughter is on a full gluten diet, then they should repeat a full Celiac panel. Not just the tTg but a full panel. Her tTg can be influenced by the diabetes alone...
  23. Hummingbird-Hill....you took the words right out of my mouth! I was going to suggest testing for Sjogren's because many of those symptoms are the same for Sjogren's. I also have Sjogren's and it is a b%$@# compared to Celiac. Request SS-A and SS-B antibody testing. Here is a link that explains Sjogren's testing better than I can. http://emedicine...
  24. You can eat out successfully but it depends on many things. Squirmy gave you some good advice but if you live in an area with high knowledge, it can be done quite successfully. I only go to high end places except for some that are either owned by Celiac's or have them in the family. They always seem to get it right. I have 2 places that are my favorites...
