  1. .....and I was going to say the same thing about your posts, Nicole! It's hard, because people are lead to believe that doctors always know best and sometimes they just don't. Not when it comes to chronic disease. If I hadn't been so stubborn and headstrong, and read as much as I could about these 2 conditions, I would not be as healthy as I am today...
  2. Well......you know where I stand on this, Stephanie. I do not think it is abnormal for it to take his tTg this long to become normal again, considering he has Celiac and Hashi's. He has the bad celiac gene too, like I do. That would explain such a high tTg at the outset, for someone so young. I just do not believe that 4 years of blood work could be wrong...
  3. Unless you are looking at dessert cookbooks, there should not be much in the way of processed food recipes in a good cook book. One of my favorites is a British vegetarian cook book ( I am not a vegetarian but the recipes are great!) called Veg:River Cottage Everyday. It is not a gluten free cook book but what recipes may contain gluten can be easily modified...
  4. Gluten free oats are perfectly safe for many Celiacs so it was not a bad suggestion from the nutritionist. I tolerated them well from the get go and I was pretty sick at diagnosis...go figure. Colleen gave you good advice for the dinner thread. It contains some wonderful ideas. This is something you are going to have to learn yourself. I would suggest...
  5. Cindy.........The test you were positive on is the AGA IgA, which shows you are reacting to gluten, big time. The rest of your testing appears normal but the bottom line is that you are strongly reacting to gluten. You could either have the testing done again with the tests that nvsmom has so expertly suggested or push for a biopsy, if an official diagnosis...
  6. Ya beat me to it, Valerie! What I said earlier.......do that! You need a full Celiac panel done and not just the tTg. Those results are very telling. Most definitely an EMA on that panel because the EMA is very specific to Celiac Disease. No other disease will cause a positive on that one. You do need to be eating gluten again for testing. I know...
  7. I forgot to add that you should definitely have the thyroid tested because sleeping for 15 hours sounds like a thyroid problem. That was me...if my thyroid even gets a tiny bit low, an earthquake might not get me out of bed for work. Last thing...and sorry for the TMI moment here...........my explosive, watery diarrhea stopped completely on day 3 of...
  8. Very well stated, Laura! My brother is a Type 1 diabetic and a Celiac in denial and my family get the diabetes thing well. Which doesn't sit well with me because it's a food related, autoimmune illness also. What don't ya get about Celiac and the plethora of other AI diseases I have too? I am blessed that I really don't have too many bad days in a year...
  9. Valerie....did your doc do a complete Celiac panel or just the tTg? That is important because they should be doing the complete one to compare the results to down the road with repeat testing, to see how you are doing with healing. They are being thorough in checking your thyroid too because that happens frequently with Celiac. I have Hashi's thyroid disease...
  10. I have severe GI reactions to gluten hits but do not go to the hospital. I do not have asthma and I think that is why you ended up there and needed prednisone. That's a game changer. I just treat dehydration with Pedialyte, which is for kids but works well for adults also. It will re-balance electrolytes. I find that once the offending food is out of...
  11. Keep the faith, Ladies. Keep learning all you can because that helps you to understand the process of healing. I wish it could be shortened but healing occurs whether you feel good or not. It just takes awhile for it all to come together and then you feel better.
  12. Geez, Nicole..........this isn't fair. You know your stuff so it must be frustrating to have lingering symptoms. I am like you in that I have multiple autoimmune diseases and it did take me about 3 years to rid myself of the very last one. That was bone pain in my upper right leg. It was the only bone pain I had but it was bad. I was limping some days...
  13. As I said before, Valerie......you are a smart cookie and are picking up really quickly on all this. Lactose intolerance goes hand in hand with newly diagnosed celiac disease as the enzyme that breaks down lactose is made in the tips of the villi. When they become damaged, you end up lactose intolerant also. That happened to me. Many people, especially...
  14. Valerie........for someone who is 19, you show a lot of intelligence and common sense! So use that and listen to nvsmom. You have Celiac if your blood work was positive and yes, you may not have accrued enough damage for them to find yet so consider yourself lucky. I won't go into a second rant about that because Nicole did such a good job, I won't repeat...
  15. Oh, man.......that's gotta hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. One of the things I learned from the article I read is that the DEXA scan tells you bone density but does not tell anything about the quality of your bone. Small, petite people may show lower density but the bone structure may be strong. Osteoporosis can be over played, in some cases. My own doctor agreed with this and she has patients that have horrible...
  17. Could you clarify that statement, Irishheart? You were pole dancing on some ice......
  18. I am in the same boat and I think whether you improve or not has many different variables. I am 55 and post menopausal by 10 years. I am also petite and on a fat day weigh 112 pounds, which may be part of the problem. I am not as good as some about taking supplements. I do take them everyday but I don't think it is enough. It is hard because I also take...
  19. I wish there was gluten in M & M's...those things are so addictive, ya can't eat just one .......bag!
  20. This is what I was thinking too. Too much milky stuff does me in.......
  21. Amazing, isn't it? It just keeps getting better.
  22. Nvsmom beat me to the punch and she gave her usual excellent advice! With all of those associated conditions and especially the lymphoma, you must stay strictly gluten-free because it will help to make you better and calm your immune system down. Do not be overwhelmed. It is new, at first, but you will discover just how much you can eat. Not everyone gets...
  23. JesikaBeth.......looking at your signature list of all your health problems, almost every one is a screaming symptom of Celiac. The fact that a doctor told you you could keep eating gluten with positive bloodwork is what should make you angry, not the gluten free diet. The cancer you were diagnosed with is strongly associated with undiagnosed Celiac. But...
  24. Renee....that article is pure fear mongering. Most Celiacs are NOT slowly dying but people are free to believe what they want. You do know that Celiac's can certainly have unrelated health issues aside from their Celiac Disease or they could be suffering from additional food intolerances? I went way more than 8 years of being ill and wasn't diagnosed until...
