  1. I don't know whether technically wheat grass juice could bother someone who has problems with gluten or not, but in my own mind, I mean, common-sense-wise, it makes me shudder to even think of TRYING that. I'd tell the boss I have an allergy and cannot risk drinking it... someone else will have to taste-test yours for you... it just doesn't seem worth...
  2. I've never eaten figs too much, but I always did love prunes, especially chocolate-covered. For whatever reason, though, I can relate at least to your prune problem... seems the last several times I ate them I got really messed up. I kept telling myself it just couldn't be the prunes, but then it happened so many times I decided that for some reason,...
  3. Fiber certainly disagrees with me too... I don't think it's really all that essential to good gut function, myself... I think the key is finding which foods mess you up and avoiding them. Also.. don't know how long you've been gluten free, but for me, my gut kept constantly changing a lot until around the two year mark... first I couldn't handle soy, then...
  4. I would check on the safe and forbidden lists on this website, as someone else suggested. Also, there are lists on the net of gluten-free candies and such, if you google something like gluten free candy lists... you can find them... important stuff to know for kids! School / craft /art supplies are important to know about too... for instance, off the...
  5. The cookies look great! And, I agree, the writing style is wonderful!!!
  6. Get the Trader Joe's gluten-free brownie mix. Extremely easy to bake... add water, oil, egg...and... now I'm drooling. Best brownies in the whole world, I swear they are!!! The bag the mix comes in is reusable, too... makes a nice lunch bag.
  7. Well it sure was good... but there was no recipe... it's been a long time since I had that party mix chex stuff... but I just took a cast iron pan, put in a pat or two of butter... some handfuls of the little circular wylde pretzel rings and handfuls of chex and a small amount of peanuts, warmed them as the butter melted and began sprinkling with garlic powder...
  8. I made chex mix... sorta, using gluten-free wlyde pretzels and rice chex and garlic plus some cayenne pepper. That was GOOD!!!! REALLY GOOD!!!
  9. Not gluten free. I read a bunch of stuff back when i was trying to get myself gluten free... read that sprouting uses up all the gluten and so sprouted grains were gluten free... well, I found out the hard way that's not true... sprouted gluten grains are NOT gluten free... maybe they might have less gltuen in the lab or something, but clearly enough to...
  10. Next time try Trader Joe's gluten free brownie mix... Easy to make and they are the best brownies we ever had, ever! Your guests won't even have to know they're gluten free... unless you tell 'em... then, whether they can eat gluten or not, I betcha they'll run out to Trader Joe's and buy a package for themselves.
  11. You might want to keep in touch with a trusted doctor to rule out other stuff, but for me going gluten free resulted in only mild improvement after the first two weeks...hardly noticeable improvement, then a bumpy road for the next several months. Apparently some people are lucky and get better faster. The improvement for me was so gradual and slow it...
  12. Breyer's ALL NATURAL ice cream flavors are gluten free, by the way! That's assuming they don't have some cookie one or something I'm not aware of... but the strawberry, vanilla, butter pecan, and chocolate that are Breyer's ALL NATURAL are at least all gluten free. AND GOOD! And YES, ya definitely have to read the label of each and every thing you...
  13. I've heard all the "science" on why humans should be vegetarians, and even used to "preach" that to people all the time, as I was suffering, myself, from bad and constantly worsening symptoms while setting off celiac disease by my "healthy" diet. Vegans and vegetarians always point to large, strong mammals as examples of healthy vegans... however, we don...
  14. This is definitely a sensitive topic. I was a low-fat vegan for about 10 years...followed the McDougall diet, which is oil-free, low-fat vegan. Very soon after beginning that diet, I started having intestinal symptoms, but mostly ignored them, even contacted the Dr. who wrote the diet by email a few times when I finally started suspecting gluten was my...
  15. Ugh... time for me to stop reading this thread... it's making me angry. I just hate doctors... I know, I know, I've heard RUMORS that there are actually some good ones, who repsect, listen, care, and have enough smarts to actually diagnosis and do the RIGHT thing... but I've just heard stories about that. I have my physical battle scars, emotional...
  16. GREAT music! Yes, you should hit the road and go for it!!! As long as you're feeling good by now. I gotta say, I was pretty nervous the whole time I was away... fearing cc and staying in his little dorm-like cabin... how awful it would be if I got all messed up... embarrassing, interrupting of the whole process, etc. I was scared about that... but I...
  17. I have a slight bladder injury from childbirth... acted up my whole life. When I went gluten free, surprisingly, this got a LOT better. I don't go as much, and I'm better at holding it when I need to. Much of what I assumed was injured bladder worsening with age seems to have gotten a lot better off the gluten.
  18. It says above I've made one "celiac disease," what I wrote was that I'd made one recording, and used the initials, i.e., a C followed by a D... and it came out "celiac disease".
  19. I majored in music back in college (in the OLDEN days) and have spent my life fiddling around with folksish, balladish, and now more and more old-timeish music. I've made one celiac disease and have performed here and there a little when opportunities came my way...not too much for the past 15 or 20 years, though. I used to like to pencil sketch, but...
  20. I hate to say this, but every doctor I've ever been to has acted absolutely stupid and arrogant at the same time: I don't know exactly when my self-diagnosed celiac began, but for my entire life every single time I wnet to a doctor, on hindsight, I could look back and see I was not really LISTENED to, misdiagnosed, mistreated, and all from an attitude of...
  21. Well, since we're being gross and it does seem safe to be gross here ... I'll put in my two cents. Of course, I'm not a doctor and don't attempt to diagnose anybody, but I also diagnosed myself with celiac disease... very similar to your sypmtoms, and I can't say really how long I had those symptoms, but that they became very bothersome, worse and worse...
  22. It wouldn't seem to be jaundice if you've had it for years, doesn't seem like, anyway. Look at your eyeballs...open up your eyes and compare them with your teeth... your whites of your eyes should be whiter than your teeth... if they are, then it's probably not jaundice. AGain, as the other poster said... we're not doctors or anything... but let me...
  23. This has happend to me too. I can't eat eggs. I've been gluten free for 2 years and 3 months. For a while I couldn't eat eggs at all. Now I can eat stuff like mayonnaise made with eggs, eggs baked into something, etc., but the minute I eat just an egg, like for breakfast, then it hits again! I always could eat eggs until a while after I went gluten...
  24. Thanks, Momma Goose.. so it sounds gluten free, although gross! Right? Hmmm... just don't wanna starve to death on my trip... but if it's gluten free, that's good enough for now... so you think it looks gluten free, right? Sounds like it to me. As sure as heck wouldn't wanna get a big ol' gluten reaction going while I'm away either. thanks for...
  25. Hello... I'm packing up for a trip and thought canned tuna would be something easy to take for sandwiches, etc., and picked up Kirkland Signature solid white albacore tuna packed in water with salt and pyrophosphate added... I checked all the lists I've got access to for this pyrophosphate stuff and cannot figure out what it's made from. don't wanna...
