ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?SchnauzerMom replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I agree with some of the others here. A pill is not a cure but rather a form of treatment. Like insulin for a diabetic. We would have to take the pill the rest of our lives. The trouble with that is that a lot of meds have weird side effects and could cause problems several years down the line. I have no desire to be a guina pig just so I can eat whole...

ARCHIVED Suggestions Needed For Next Step...SchnauzerMom replied to tummytroubles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms It definitely sounds like you need to avoid gluten. If you feel better without it then avoid it. There is a lot of stuff out there to eat that doesn't have gluten. You don't have to feel deprived.

ARCHIVED Your Personal Celiac/gluten Intolerance StorySchnauzerMom replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I always had a problem with constipation when I was a child and if I remember correctly I had a sensitive stomach, got upset easily. In the last 15 years or so my major symptoms started. I kept getting cramps and alternate diarrhea/constipation. I would also get depressed and moody. I was tired all the time. The last couple of years I started having...

ARCHIVED I Did A Dumb ThingSchnauzerMom replied to SchnauzerMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I've still got some problems but it is slowly clearing up. It definitely took the fun out of eating food with gluten.

ARCHIVED Dental ProblemsSchnauzerMom replied to Haleigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I never thought that my problems with my teeth were related to gluten. But, they could be. I broke one tooth off near the gum line and a large hole was broken out of another. Now that I'm gluten free maybe that will help.

ARCHIVED I Did A Dumb ThingSchnauzerMom replied to SchnauzerMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It definitely was a denial thing. I starting thinking that maybe gluten wasn't my problem. Boy did I learn that it was my problem. Still have some stomach pain but it is calming down.

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease: Not Just A Gi ProblemSchnauzerMom replied to Sophiekins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Wow, this explains some symptoms that I had a while back. I was lying in bed and felt really weird. When I opened my eyes the room was spinning around. I had to just lie there for a while until it stopped. It only happened once but it was a really strange experience.

ARCHIVED Feeling Scared...SchnauzerMom replied to Stef-Ani's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease It can be overwhelming at first. You just need to educate yourself as much as possible. There are lots of receipes on the internet. You can also substitute gluten free ingredients in the receipes you already use. We are very fond of bread and baked goods at my house. So far I've made chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, bread, scones, muffins, pancakes...

ARCHIVED Happy Tummy :) And I'm Happy.SchnauzerMom replied to super-sally888's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I'm glad that you're feeling better. I started feeling better right away too. Of course I have messed that up by eating a piece of cake yesterday. But, never again. Pain is not something I enjoy.

ARCHIVED Starting Today (he Said)SchnauzerMom replied to ana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I'm becoming very good at reading labels. Also, I found a great cook book that has a bunch of great receipes. Concentrate on what you can have rather than on what you can't have. Also remember that gluten makes you sick and it's just not worth it.

ARCHIVED Anyone In Oklahoma?SchnauzerMom replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I'm from Lawton in Southwest Oklahoma. I haven't been diagnosed with celiac but I know from hard experience that if I eat anything with gluten in it I have a bad reaction so my husband and I have been on a gluten free diet since the middle of October. Exept, yesterday. Yesterday I ate a piece of cake that was not gluten free and I am still paying for it...

Yesterday I ate a piece of cake (not gluten free). Don't ask me why, it was just a dumb thing to do. At first I didn't notice any problems. I have heard that cake flour has less gluten than bread flour. Usually I get heartburn right away. Anyway, a couple of hours later the IBS kicked in, cramps and so forth. I'm still paying for it today. Stomach...

ARCHIVED For Those Of You Who Have/had Reflux ProblemsSchnauzerMom replied to AliceW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms One of the things that led me to try a gluten free diet was severe acid stomach. I take medicine for it but I would still get sick if I ate a slice of bread or anything else with gluten in it. My stomach is happy now since I've been off gluten but I still have to take the meds. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to stop them.

ARCHIVED Birthday Present From The CoworkersSchnauzerMom replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Happy Birthday! I am glad that your co workers actually remembered what your needs are. Some people have to be constantly reminded. Hope your tea party went well.

ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone WithSchnauzerMom replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Both celiac and gluten intolerance are taken care of through diet. It seems to me that it wouldn't matter if you were "officially" celiac or not. Now if there was a medicine for it then you would need a doctor. I'm on a gulten free diet and I've never been diagnosed. I'm trying to avoid having to go to a doctor.

ARCHIVED Hope This Helps SomeoneSchnauzerMom replied to christa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Thank you for this post. I have been gluten free for about 1 month. I have been getting discouraged lately wondering if gluten is the problem or something else. I really need to give it more time. Thanks again!

ARCHIVED Funny Stomach Ache...SchnauzerMom replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It does sound like maybe a virus. If it doesn't clear up soon you probably should see a Dr.

I'm sorry that happened to you and I hope you feel better soon. I lot of people just don't understand what gulten is. When I told someone I was on a gluten free diet and couldn't eat donuts they agreed that donuts were full of gluten. That person didn't understand that gluten is in bread, rolls, cookies, cake, etc. My mother told me that if I couldn't...

I get really bad acid stomach. It feels like a hole is being burned in my stomach. Next I get irritable and cranky. Sometimes I get depressed. Evenutally the gas comes.
