  1. My primary gluten symptom was and still is anxiety. As long as I am gluten free I am also anxiety free. It is common to have anxiety along with gluten, and to have it go away when going gluten free. Yay!
  2. I'll second the Chebe recommendation. You can do so much with their mixes.
  3. Elimination Diet + Food Diary = figuring out what is bothering you without a doctor's help. If you are eating yogurt you are not dairy-free, and may be suffering delayed reactions. Nightshades, soy, rice, legumes (beans, peanuts) can all be troublesome.
  4. Have you considered an elimination diet? Dairy, soy, corn or other foods could be causing these problems now that the gluten has been removed from her diet.
  5. I made Chebe tortillas last night and the results were FABULOUS. I LOVE CHEBE. The best tortilla I've had since I went gluten-free.
  6. Quaker has a risk of cross-contamination. Try Lundberg's Rice Cakes.
  7. I too a having issues with corn (and soy, dairy, yeast and rice). Shopping is a nightmare, and I've cut out so many of the things I was eating being "only" gluten-free. I'm undecided as to whether corn that is hidden in additives and things lke citric acid is truly bothering me, but I do know that the cleaner I eat, the better. I've finally gotten off my...
  8. Yes, it is mind boggling. 18 months gluten-free and I am absolutely convinced that a great many of our population's ills are directly related to food. Will most listen when we try to bring awareness? No. Are the doctors catching on? Slowly. I predict a large-scale food revolution and awareness in the general populace in the next ten years.
  9. I agree with the comments about dairy and soy. My face only cleared up recently because I took dairy and soy out. When I tested ingestion of small amounts of each I broke out immediately.
  10. Have you been tested for Celiac? That and a visit to a dermo for a skin biopsy sounds like a plan.
  11. I love love love Chebe - it has been a welcome addition to my gluten-and-many-other-free diet. In fact, the Cinnamon Rollup mix is on deck for Sunday. I get about 4 personal size crusts out of a bag of pizza mix and freeze for later use. I've also rolled it out very thin and made crackers. I am eager to make as tortillas - thanks for the heads-up barb...
  12. Addison's Disease which affects the adrenals can make your skin look tan or yellowish. Definitely get this checked out.
  13. Because you have an opportunity to get tested, do it now before you cut out gluten. It sounds like you may have a gluten issue, and from your list of foods that cause reactions, probably a leaky gut as well. Before I went gluten-free I had similar symptoms to yours, and a relative lack of gastrointestinal symptoms. Gluten and other food intolerances seem...
  14. Bring your own food. No matter how much educating or others and monitoring of food prep you do you are taking a risk. I was glutened during last year's holidays (my first year gluten-free) and it's just not worth it, and creates stress for all, unless the non-gluten-free are practiced at non-CC gluten-free food prep and fully supportive of your needs.
  15. Yes you will
  16. Fish Oil Evening Primrose Oil Nuts like almonds and walnuts - in moderation These help lower cholesterol. Statins = bad. Do not go on these meds if you don't absolutely have to. Do you have any other conditions such as PCOS?
  17. The prep I used listed the need to contact your dr. or a medical professional if you don't start BM's within 6 hours of the first dose.
  18. Hathor - I am confused about yeast as you are. There are the obvious sources of brewer's and baker's yeast, then there is the list associated with candida overgrowth, etc. Until I get my follow-up in a couple of weeks I am simply avoiding the obvious. It stinks that I get a letter saying to cut out x & y foods without explanation (which I know will come...
  19. I've been fanatically gluten-free for 17 months, developed issues with dairy, corn and soy this summer, had an EGD 3 weeks ago that showed villious blunting. I haven't had my follow-up yet, but will interrogate the dr. about this when I do. It's a good question and makes me wonder what they would have found had I requested the EGD when I went gluten-free...
  20. I had the same episode with soy a few months back and that sealed my decision to quit soy. I've had good results with my skin and PMS since cutting out soy and dairy at the same time so not sure which is benefitting me most. I've never reacted so immediately and violently (in a gastrointestinal way, at least) to any food as I did the day I ate both soy cheese...
  21. Wow CT - 10 years? Way to go. Oh yes it's all a big conundrum. I recently had an EGD that showed blunted villi along with inflamed stomach lining. Since I haven't had my follow-up appt. yet, I don't know what the damage is from (foods? infection?). Probably the corn, soy and dairy I cut out just recently. It's unlikely I'm getting hidden gluten as I don...
  22. Bacon often has yeast in it - go figure.
  23. Corn became one of my problem foods at the same time dairy (casien) and soy did, more than a year after going gluten-free. I chalk it up to leaky gut and proteins passing through my gut into my body and wreaking havoc.
  24. It is my understanding that if you have a firm DH diagnosis then you must live gluten-free. At that point a biopsy is rather redundant.
