I will not even try to eat at Coors Field. I've been many, many times. Bring your own food and save $, as well as protect yourself. If you want to drink alcohol, the margaritas (Cuervo booth) are safe, or get one of those large lemonades and then go to the bar and get a shot of vodka. Works for me!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dining In Downtown Denver
nmw replied to sullystaub's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Mercury Cafe 22nd & California - downtown. The owner (Marilyn) is gluten-free, and the menu is primarily organic and local fare. Side dishes like quinoa and lentils are standard! Just ask your server to tell the kitchen to make your meal as if they are cooking for their boss. Works for me! Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere - well - eclectic... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants In Denver
nmw replied to DarkIvy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Beau Jo's uses Deby's pizza crust and it's good, but I've been cc'd there twice and I give up. Chipotle - I have loved Chipotle since I walked into store #1 the day it opened, but I've been cc'd there too. I now only go to my neighborhood store so I don't have to explain myself every time. I also go in when it is slow so I'm not inconveniencing the staff... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Vs. New Grist
nmw replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Redbridge beats New Grist, but I'm not complaining! I love beer and beer loves me whether or not I'm gluten free! -
A couple of quinoa tips: Rinsing is very important. Do this before cooking. Skim off the foam that forms on top of the water as it cooks. Add spices and veggies toward the end of cooking for best flavor. Enjoy!

ARCHIVED Travelling Through Co, Nm, Az, Ut
nmw replied to Swiss's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Why do you say this? Do you have problems with the food or recipes? Service? The owner, Monica, is almost always there, and is very open to complaints and suggestions, as well as praise. Perhaps XDC has better dessert items (I can't say - I haven't been there yet), but one cannot live on dessert alone. For Swiss's info: Deby's has a bakery and cafe with... -
Flax seed goes rancid quickly after grinding. It is best to grind just before use. An extra coffee grinder to use w/ nuts and herbs is a great addition to the kitchen!

ARCHIVED Would You Worry About Cross Contamination With Marijuana?
nmw replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
RE: nutritional use of hemp, I use Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein Powder. It states in the ingredients that it does not contain: hexane, dairy, lactose, sweeteners or gluten. It is a great source of fiber and protein, amino acids and fatty acids, and can be added in baking, to yogurt and smoothies, or sprinkled in a multitude of dishes. I have had no problems... -
ARCHIVED Easter Candy
nmw replied to nothungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Warning: The bag of Hersey's miniatures I am holding in my hand states "MALT" in the ingredients list right on the bag. Hershey's miniatures in bulk bags are NOT gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Market Labels
nmw replied to pugluver31902's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you haven't already done so, you must contact the store manager and report this employee (did you get her name?)and incident, as well as file a written complaint about the non-gluten-free food located in the gluten-free section and shelf tag labelled gluten-free. Then, copy your complaint to the corporate office. -
ARCHIVED Lame Advertisement?
nmw replied to Katydid's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My understanding is that there are very few gluten-free Shaklee items. Best to check the website and email them as their formulations change often. -
From what and how you have stated your physical issues, it sounds like you are still getting gluten somehow: bad gas; loose, floating BM's, fatigue, bad mood/depression. If you are working in fast food you are probably getting glutened every day, whether or not you eat the stuff you prepare. Cutting down on fats and smoking are good moves, and can only...

ARCHIVED Eyes
nmw replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I experience sinus pressure and pain, fuzzy vision/inability to focus, and positional dizziness (looking down, then moving, like in the kitchen when cooking) when glutened. The vision problem persist a long time after a glutening. The opthamologist I saw rolled his eyes and sent me on my way when I went in to have it checked out. Now I know that for me,... -
Elf - I also have more neuro symptoms that gastro, and exercise helps me to "burn it off" as well. It takes some effort, but always pays off in the end. Whatever works, you know?

Anxiety, brain fog and depression are my first indicators that I have been glutened. I was days away from going on anti-depressants when I figured out my gluten intolerance. St. John's Wort needs time - usually a couple of weeks - to build up in the bloodstream before it is really effective. I've used it since before I was diagnosed, and still use...

ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac Disease/gluten Allergy?
nmw replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Eagle - You may very well have celiac disease/GI, as your symptoms can be associated with it. My presenting symptoms were almost all neurological, plus the accompanying weight loss and vitamin deficiencies caused by malabsorption, and have all responded unbelievably to the gluten-free diet. I was literally days away from giving in and going on anti... -
ARCHIVED Vision Problems Gluten Related?
nmw replied to anerissara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your mom has a lot of celiac disease symptoms. I have eye problems related to being glutened - fuzzy sight, eye fatigue, dry eyes. Low-carb diet shouldn't affect blood test outcomes unless she has removed all gluten from her diet. -
ARCHIVED Long Term Pre-diagnosis Symptons
nmw replied to Riayn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes - D before your period is normal for some women. If you have given birth, think about how the things that happen with your body JUST before you start your period are very similar to what happens when you are moving into early labor, including the D or loose stools. Now that I know I am GI, it is hard to know what weirdness with my body or even overt... -
ARCHIVED Long Term Pre-diagnosis Symptons
nmw replied to Riayn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Funny you should ask, as I was just thinking about asking the same thing. My symptoms were very cyclic (though not so much gastrointestinal as emotional/neurological) prior to diagnosis. They seemed to follow patterns of stress and hormones, so pre-menstrual times were worst. I didn't figure our my gluten intolerance until the symptoms hung on far beyond... -
My hairdresser explained to me that when you are ill or extremely stressed, especially any illness that affects your nutrition, you will lose the most hair 3 months following the start of your healing process. I cannot recall the specifics, but it takes that long for the shaft of the hair to loosen and drop. Alopecia is one of the symptoms of celiac disease...

I'm glad to see this topic come up, as we smokers are such pariahs in society today. I've smoked on and off for far too long, and am giving quitting another try this Saturday. I have been smoking American Spirits for about a year, and they are a far better cigarette than regular brands. I smoke less of these than the ol' Marlboro Lights. I actually had a...
