  3. No the peeled Fried Chicken is not safe to eat. I do the one or a combination of the following to prevent having to sit and watch everyone eat while I am hungry: 1) Inquire in advance about what food will be available. 2) Eat before I go. 3) Bring my own food. Mentally I have disassociated food as part of a social activity. I go to social...

  8. You can order Bob's Red Mills Flours directly from their website. Also, Amazon sells gluten free products in bulk.
  9. I only had to stay for a day when I had my gallbladder out. I brought all my food except the drinks. I checked before and verifed that there was a refrigerator and a microwave in the nursing station area. I packed food that needed to be refregerated into single servings. I was able to supplement what I brought with whole fresh fruit from the hospital...
  10. One option is to have one of your parents call the other parents before the sleepover ask about the food arrangements. That way the food for everyone is not decided on the spur of the moment. Another option is to pack your own food, you could include your own gluten free pizza and gluten free food from Chick-fil-a and reheat it in the microwave.
  11. Are you in charge of the cooking and grocery shopping? My household is gluten limited, basically only bread and cereal. Dinner is easy to make gluten free. Replace gluten snacks with gluten free snacks. After many years of sharing my kitchen with the bread and cereal I set up a sandwich making station outside the kitchen. It contains an apartment size...
  12. I agree with Momma Goose. The primary suspect is the Fritos. If available in your area, Mission Tortilla Chips are gluten free. You might want to try going back to all natural foods (no processed foods) for a little while before trying any processed foods. Also, I would suggest that you double check the ingredients in your personal items and cleaning...
  13. Lisa, Is there a place you might be able to sit in the disability office? When I spoke with the disablility office at my son's community college they told me he was welcome to come in a sit in the reception area (they have a couple of couches and a coffee table) anytime.
  14. Below is the information from the Wholefoods website for the store in the Orlando area: Open Original Shared Link Whole Foods has a good selection of gluten free food. My local WholeFoods will print out a list of gluten free foods in the store if I ask at the Customer Service desk. I do not live in Florida so I would suggest e-mail WholeFoods and...
  15. I consider it a cultual experience to shop for food in a foreign country, figure out how to use the stove in the rented flat, and eat my gluten free sack lunch in the local parks.
  16. Below is the link to Bob & Ruth's Gluten-free Dining & Travel Club. They have cruises. Open Original Shared Link I am not a member and have not booked any travel through them.
  17. Happy Birthday.
  18. Being sick on vacation is not my idea of a vacation. I stay gluten free so I can enjoy my trip in good heath.
  19. I make my own, it is real easy. Below is my basic receipe: 2/3 sunflower oil or any oil of your choice 1/3 Rice Vinegar or Gluten Free Vinegar of your choice Add Salt, pepper, ground oregano, and garlic powder to taste. This receipe does not need to be refrigerated. I usually carry it in a two ounce LEAK PROOF bottle in my purse.
  20. One option is not bother with cereal. Examples of alternatives are Gluten Free Pancakes, gluten free muffins, or gluten free bars (Glutino or Enjoy Life). The pancakes and muffins can be made in advance and frozen in individual servings. Also, you do not have to stick to a "Standard Breakfast". Any food that is gluten free is ok. One of my favorite...
  21. One other alternative is simply leave bread (all kinds) out of your diet. When I went gluten free many years ago there were very few commercially made gluten free breads and they were all bad. I still don't bake much. I use rice cakes and corn tortillas in place of bread for sandwich fixings. Hope you find a receipe that you like.
  22. My point of view comes from 29 years of being gluten free. I never expect anyone to make any special effort to accomodate me. This is the coping strategy that works the best for me. I find out what the food arrangements are and do one or a combination of the following: 1) I eat before I go. 2) I bring my own food. If there will not be access...
  23. One suggestion is to locate the Wendy's and Chick-a-fil's along your route. If you are allowed to bring a small hard sided cooler (6 or 12 can size) it would expand what you can carry with you. I use the hotels ice machines to to refill the ice when I am traveling with an ice chest. Have a super trip.
  24. The rice bread will last the three or four days of the tournament as long as it it kept cold. If you don't rent a room with a refrigerator take an ice chest and add ice everyday. I premake my meals and freeze them when I travel. Peanut Butter and jelly makes a good cold meal. Gluten free bars make great snacks.
  25. You don't need to buy specialty gluten free foods to eat well. There are plenty of naturally gluten free foods. The key, in my opinion, to using naturally gluten free foods is to rethnink the concept of what a"standard meal" is. One of my favorite meals is spegetti sauce with meat over mashed potatoes. It is ok to eat breakfast for dinner and lunch for...
