ARCHIVED I Need This Answered, Majorly Much
GeoffCJ replied to Liz92's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's tempting thought, isn't it! I agree with the above posters, but I know where you are coming from (Liz92). When I get accidentaly glutened, I'm always tempted to go eat a big pizza, to make the sickness "worth it". I don't. Too much risk. Geoff -
ARCHIVED Damn It. It 's My Last Week Of Finals For My Last Year Of My Mba Program
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks Erin! I'm feeling mostly back to normal, just stressed and tired from being behind. But I'll use that list this weekend to prepare for next time! Thanks, Geoff -

That's a drag. I actually told my wife I'd rather not eat out this week, to avoid that risk. (I'm normally relatively OK with eating out, with care.) Little did I know that a moments inattention would get em like this. Geoff -
ARCHIVED Damn It. It 's My Last Week Of Finals For My Last Year Of My Mba Program
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all. I feel a little better today, but still only 65% of normal. And I'm behind, but I have a plan in place to get things done. My headache is killing me. Anyone know what headache medicines are gluten free? -

?Yesterday, I'm in a group meeting with 4 good friends. My friend Paige, who's a big sweatheart, hands everyone redvines. I bite off a piece, chew once, then without swallowing, think , "Oh Sh*t." Spit it out. Check the ingredients online. Wheat flour. I didn't even think I was that sensitive, but I felt like crap all day and evening. Not too... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Careful?

Ryan, That's great to hear! It was certainly sounding scary there for a while, so any return to something closer to normal is great. It's great that you are there for her too. My wife and I are newlyweds (just over a year, I think we still count). I actually started to figure out my Celiac disease after our delayed honeymoon. I haven't had... -

Are you still eating dairy? Is your protein shake made with Milk? A lot of celiacs have issues with lactose or casein. Geoff -
ARCHIVED Help Me Name My Baby!
GeoffCJ replied to Guhlia's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My wife and I met rock climbing, and enjoy kayaking, skiing etc. We seriously want to name our kids after Rivers or Mountains. (Kern, Whitney, places that are special to us) We not so seriously want to give our 1st kid the middle name "danger". Danger is his/her middle name! I think my mom would kill me. Geoff -

I think you have to pick your battles, and the risks that you can accept. I'd imagine that for an adult, injesting paint is a pretty low risk, but if paint is available gluten-free, then I'd buy it. It might be tough to find ingredient lists. Hey, How's Alex doing? Is the diabetes diagnosis helping get things settled down for you two? Give... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Diagnosis Story!
GeoffCJ replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Copied from another Thread: For 11-12 years I've had symptoms. GI issues, then sleeping issues (light sleeper/insomnia), then my hands and feet going numb. Always felt tired. I tried to stay active, but hadn't had the energy I used to. Lots of stomach problems. I'd have frequent, sometimes painfull tingling/numbness in my hands and feet. Still got... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Vs. New Grist
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've got the pack at home. I'll check again. You should do it more. That and my wife and family are what gets me out of bed in the morning. If you're interested, you can see tons of pictures here: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Vs. New Grist
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked twice, and so did my friend, and we couldn't see it. It says made with Sorghum and Rice on the label, but not "only". And I know there is other stuff in there. Being unique, and clearly aimed at a niche (us) you'd think they'd make it a little more clear. I knew it to be gluten-free, and I still doubted and second guessed whether to buy it... -

ARCHIVED Redbridge Vs. New Grist
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One thing that really surprised me was that New Grist doesn't mention gluten-free ANYWHERE on the packaging. Now I'm going to recheck the redbridge, but I can't remember if it does. And there is no ingredient list either. It made me nervous, and if I hadn't heard about it here, I certainly would have never, ever bought it. Really surprising. -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Vs. New Grist

Not complaining! At this point, talking about differences in beer flavor is like comparing ferraris and lamborginis, I'm thrilled with either. Just a slight preference for Redbridge! Geoff -

ARCHIVED Redbridge----
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After my joy in finding Redbridge a little over a week ago, imagine the elation I felt when I found New Grist at a Henry's in southern California. I was doubly surprised when I found that I prefer the Redbridge. AB over a microbrew? the former beer snob in me was flabbergasted, but it just tastes better to me. Less of a sake/rice flavor than the... -

ARCHIVED What Is Your Secret Weapon?
GeoffCJ replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My Wife. My Family. Her Family. Kayaking. Kayaking again. Riding my bike. My friends. My School. My work. Remembering that my life is not defined solely by the things I eat. That's my "secret" weapon. I also take a multivitamen and B-complex vitamin, but I don't know if they do anything.... Geoff -
ARCHIVED Redbridge----
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the paddling world, it's pretty common to have a beer at the end of the run, to celebrate a run gone well. It had been a while since I'd participated, but today, after a 19 mile Class IV+ (with one class V) just outside Yosemite, I was really stoked to pop open my second Redbridge. Yum. Felt great to sit around with the crew, toasting the run... -

Thanks Grump and others. I do try and write a bit. I actually write for almost every issue of a regional outdoor magazine, and have been published in national outdoor magazines. I'd like to do more. Geoff -
ARCHIVED Redbridge----
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's about what I paid. I'd say compared to beer or similar quality, it's a bit spendy, but I certainly paid far, far more for a 6 pack. And given that my beer budget for the last 6 months has been $0, I wasn't too worried about it. I've never drank much beer, just really enjoyed the ones that I do. As a ratio of Gluten free prices to normal prices... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge----
GeoffCJ posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For quite some time the Redbridge ad has been TAUNTING me from the side of the forum. I thought about using an adblocker program in my browser, simply to remove that reminder that I can't drink beer, something I used to love so much. I never drank more than a beer or two a week, a special treat, and I always, always drank good beer. I'm just glad that... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Gluten Sensitivity (fecal Antigliadin Iga) Score < 15
GeoffCJ replied to zorax2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Carla, I'm curious, what makes you think that? I was actually gluten free/lite for several months before my Enterolab tests. I don't know if that would affect my scores. Actually before my endoscopy too. I was doing a dietary test, and was unaware that I was supposed to keep eating gluten for the endoscopy. It still showed damage, so I wonder...
