ARCHIVED Baked gluten-free Pasta - Freezer Friendly?
Juliebove replied to SandraNinTO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I find that the corn pastas work best to reheat. Sometimes the rice ones get mushy. -
We went to a steakhouse here for my nephew's birthday. I already knew the pickings were slim for me since I'd gone there as a vegetarian. But now with the food allergies, it was even worse. We were told the only safe foods were a hamburger patty, plain salad and plain baked potato. This was supposed to be one of the better places to eat and yet this is...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Legume/soy Free Licorice?
Juliebove replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The first link is for Running Rabbit brand. It is real licorice and they do make the black kind but it's not salthy. -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did see that one but figured it would be too spicy for me. Alas my stomach seems to be very delicate and all sorts of things make me ill. The plain chicken and rice combo is one I can handle. That's why I was looking for a pre-made soup but I don't think I'm going to find one. -
Trix Cereal Gluten Free?
Juliebove replied to JayT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought some. Both the old and new packages appeared to be gluten free. Daughter preferred the shape of the old ones. They look like flowers. She ate some and had no problems. -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter has a soy allergy and it's soy in any form that causes her problems. Just yesterday she was cranky and out of sorts and had a very runny nose. She was also super hyper and could not pay attention to anything. My mom commented on it. Sure enough I had accidentally given her soy in torm of oil in some hummus. I bought the wrong brand. We know... -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only ones I found said they had soy in them and I can't have it because it messes with my thyroid. I also can't take the chance of eating anything that is manufactured around milk or eggs because I'm extremely allergic. -
ARCHIVED Poll: Were You Or Your Children Breast-fed?
Juliebove replied to Mtndog's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I tried to breast feed my daughter because I had food allergies as a baby and didn't want her to get them. But I wasn't producing enough milk so I was forced to give her formula as well. Alas she turned out to be allergic to both milk and soy so no matter what I gave her she was sick. At age 6 her allergies were finally diagnosed. Prior to that the Drs... -

ARCHIVED Sweets For Church
Juliebove replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chocolates are easy to make. You can use the Enjoy Life chips. They are free of all allergens. Simply melt them in the microwave at 1/2 power, stirring every 30 seconds or so, or melt over hot (not boiling) water. Stir in some nuts or coconut and drop on waxed paper then refrigerate until firm. You can do a fruit crisp using some of that new gluten... -
ARCHIVED Question About Soy
Juliebove replied to DElizabethE's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My daughter can't have soy in any form. It doubles her right over with stomach pain. She's allergic. I'm not allergic but it messes with my thyroid. I do try to avoid soy lecithin but it is in some of the supplements I take. When I can find them without, I buy that kind. But sometimes I just can't. It's also sometimes in chewing gum. That doesn't... -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are Dairy Free
Juliebove replied to Lisa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've been afraid to try ghee. I had some but threw it out. All I know is my daughter and I have a dairy allergy. I don't know that it's specifically casein. And we seem to be very sensitive to even a speck of something we shouldn't have. I generally use olive oil, corn oil or coconut oil these days. Olive works well for most things. If I am making... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries
Juliebove replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
CC wasn't the issue. The issue was the wheat and milk used somewhere along the line in the process of making the fries that was previously undisclosed. And the mumbo jumbo they threw at us to explain why the wheat and milk won't affect us. But not all McD's use a dedicated fryer. There are many different sizes of establishments with different menus... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Legume/soy Free Licorice?
Juliebove replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Those are weird. They might "taste" fine but they don't have a chewy texture. I'm not sure exactly how to describe them in texture. Sort of like an Altoid or a Wintergreen lozenge. And if I recall correctly no matter the flavor they all have the same brownish color. I can't say that I cared for them. -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Legume/soy Free Licorice?
Juliebove replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gah! I didn't know Gimbals had soy. It says they do process soy but the few kinds of things I bought from them didn't list it. Actually daughter didn't care for them anyway so it didn't really matter. Anyway... Running Rabbit is quite good if it is the true licorice flavor you want. Here's a link but I've bought it elsewhere. Our local Central Market... -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nah. They put soy protein in it. Why? I don't know. Soy is in everything. -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No room in the freezer. There are three of us here. Daughter had her own little fridge with a very small freezer. Husband has no food issues and most of what's in the freezer is for him. He insists on tons of ice cream. -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't realize the ramen noodles were gluten free! Of course we can't have soy so it's likely there is soy in those. But I will look at them. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Rice Soup
Juliebove posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay... Gluten is not an issue for me but it is for my daughter. We also have food allergies. Can't have soy, dairy or eggs among other things. I've been having an upset stomach due to some different medical problems I have and decided to buy some cans of chicken and rice soup thinking this would be good for me. I already knew there was something in... -
ARCHIVED What's Easier... The Whole Family Or One Person
Juliebove replied to mommalov's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
In the beginning we went totally gluten free. But then we learned that wasn't always feasible. I still make family meals gluten free. My daughter's foods are kept separate. She has her own little fridge and a place to store her dried and canned foods. I can eat gluten but due to my other food allergies, many things like most breads are off limits... -
ARCHIVED Potato Wedge Seasoning
Juliebove replied to Saz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the sweet paprika too and also some Italian seasoning, sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Before I knew of my dairy allergy, I also used some grated parmesan. Now I use nutritional yeast for a cheesy taste. I also sometimes add chunky pieces of red onion. -
ARCHIVED Are There Any Healthy, Dry Snacks?
Juliebove replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How about popcorn? It's a whole grain! -
ARCHIVED Milled Flax Seed Vs. Flax Seed Meal?
Juliebove replied to nikki8's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Those are the same thing. If you have a coffee grinder or Magic Bullet you can use whole flax seeds and grind them up. Grind and mill mean the same thing. -
ARCHIVED Cottage Cheese?
Juliebove replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Friendship! That's the brand I bought. I liked it. I can't stand any kind with modified food starch in it. No matter the source. -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Juliebove replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like quinoa but I usually prepare it as a pilaf. The first time I made it I did not rinse it but I've read that rinsing is essential or it might taste bitter. I sautee some chopped vegetables such as carrot, celery, onion and pepper in olive oil until soft. I will also add other vegetables like peas, green beans or corn. Whatever I have around. Sometimes...
