ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She actually seems happy that he is gone. It's a hard situation but he creates a ton of stress when he is around. One big reason is that he doesn't believe in food allergies. Another is that he sees her as a baby still and doesn't want her to grow up. So it's easier for her not to have to deal with him. She has been better for the most part. But eating... -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!

We both have multiple food allergies. This I know. Before learning of the food allergies, the school thought she had ADHD. I have posted the story here before. I won't go into it again. I really think it's her age. Either she loves me and is very happy, or I am the evil beast and I can do no right. She flip flops back and forth like this. -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
Juliebove replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to think that too because in so many grocery stores they are located in the dairy department. At least they used to be. These days they are usually in a separate place. -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
Juliebove replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have but I can't remember the brand. It was in a restaurant. I believe it had wheat in it. -
ARCHIVED Omg This Is Good
Juliebove replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have made something like that. Monkey Munch or Puppy Chow or whatever it's called. It has nut butter in it as well but I'm sure you could leave that out. -
ARCHIVED Any Sleepwalkers Out There?
Juliebove replied to buffettbride's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've done it. Last time that I know of was as a young adult. I thought I was dreaming. Apparently not. My roommate said I went downstairs, got three dollars out of my purse, then went to the door and said I'd take a box of mint. I thought a girl scout was there selling cookies. I have no clue where the three dollars went. Most likely the roommate took... -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
Juliebove replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was watching a British comedy (can't remember the name) and the son announced that his girlfriend was vegetarian. The grandma then looked a bit confused then said brightly, "Can she have some of that ham if it's chopped up really fine?" -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Salad Dressing In Individual Packets
Juliebove replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They're great! I don't know if any of the dressings are gluten-free but they do carry some gluten-free products. -
ARCHIVED Dr Wants More Mammogram Films
Juliebove replied to Skylark's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had the dense tissue too. Needed a 2nd one. But no problem in the end. -
ARCHIVED What Should I Be Looking For In Salad Dressing?
Juliebove replied to lischro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Agreed! -
I do not have celiac but do have FM. For me it is very much linked to my thyroid. When my thyroid is out of whack, the symptoms are much worse.

ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hmmm... My daughter gets like that sometimes. At first it was only when she ate an allergen. I suppose she could have new allergies that we don't know about. My daughter does hit sometimes. This is getting bad because she's almost as big as I am now and she is very strong. I'm afraid she'll hurt me. Last night she wasn't paying attention to me. ... -
ARCHIVED Shampoos, Soaps, Etc.
Juliebove replied to dkelm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They sure can! I thought my daughter had head lice. She was scratching at her head so much and had black spots on her scalp which turned out to be specks of dried blood. Poor thing. Started with what I thought was dandruff but I now know was peeling scalp from the shampoo I was using. I then switched to a dandruff shampoo. I had been switching back... -
ARCHIVED What To Feed This Kid?
Juliebove replied to JDB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We eat a lot of popcorn, beans, potatoes and rice, mainly because they are cheap, filling and free of our allergens. Daughter loves chicken and will happily eat that at pretty much every meal. I usually add some carrots, celery and onion to the rice and chicken. She likes canned chicken which I get at Costco. She loves teriyaki which I make using a coconut... -
ARCHIVED What Is Wrong With My Salad?
Juliebove replied to ynot's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The old cutting board could be the issue. I still use mine, but... I do all of my cutting/chopping on a paper plate with the board underneath. For cutting salad, I bought a pair of salad scissors so I can cut right in the bowl. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else A Major Bargain Hunter?
Juliebove replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm frugal with some things but not others. Clothing? I almost always buy on clearance. I'm always on the lookout for bargain socks because daughter does...well...I don't know what with them. All I know is that they disappear. Luckily she likes the look of mismatched socks. Because despite having literally hundreds of socks, it's rare to find a mate... -
ARCHIVED Visually Most Repulsive Gluteny Food
Juliebove replied to mushroom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's not so much visually repulsive but it assaults my nose. And that's freshly made ice cream cones. They were doing them in one ice cream shop we visited. I got to watch. The pet store we used to frequent was located next to an ice cream shop and the sickly sweet scent of the cones was constantly wafting in. Luckily the pet store moved to a larger... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Favorite Cold Meals
Juliebove replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When the corn is fresh, daughter likes to eat it raw, straight off the cob. It sticks in my teeth. So I cut mine off the cob. I like this with a salad of sliced tomato and onion, perhaps with a drizzle of olive oil and some kidney beans straight from the can and topped with plenty of freshly ground black pepper. -
ARCHIVED New With Wheat Allergy
Juliebove replied to JDB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum! My daughter is allergic to wheat as well as some other things. Sometimes I will cook extra of something to eat later. I don't do this often as we don't really like leftovers but she takes a lot of dance. Right now she is in summer dance camps as well as classes...sometimes for as many as 8 hours a day. So I have to have something... -
ARCHIVED How To Do This? Camping And Need Help
Juliebove replied to macocha's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I haven't been camping for many years but I think food would only keep for a few hours in a cooler unless you had some way of replacing the ice. I would try to bring as much as possible that doesn't require refrigeration. Like MRE's or canned beans (and other veg) and rice. Maybe some canned meat. -
ARCHIVED Parents Love To Go Out To Eat
Juliebove replied to trilobitian's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My parents like to eat out too. They hate eating at home. We do eat at their house once in a while. Sometimes I will cook dinner. Or we might have things that don't require cooking. Like hummus with baby carrots, fruit, cheese or boxed tomato soup. But mostly we dine out. We eat at a few restaurants and my daughter and I tend to order the same things... -

ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I do know that. And I have food allergies too. And diabetes. And other medical issues that relate to diet. So she knows that I can't eat what I want any more than she can. I do seem to get the "not listening" thing quite a bit. However, I refuse to listen when she starts out by screaming at me and/or calling me names. Which she did a lot of... -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Right now there are just the two of us. Husband is in the military and due to a variety of reasons, he had moved to another state until he retires...in about 2 years now. He normally comes home for a week or so about every three weeks. But he is currently...I don't know where. Was in Lousiana to clean up the oil spill but due to the hurricane had called...
