ARCHIVED What And How Do You React To Foods?
Juliebove replied to T.H.'s topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've been found to have no IgE allergies to food, but the allergist said to assume I have OAS to almonds and pistachios because when I eat them, the back of my mouth/throat gets itchy. I have tested IgG to almonds. I immediately stopped eating them. But then one day I spaced out and licked a spoon with almond butter on it. Was making a sandwich for... -
I bought a bottle of this today at the health food store. Now I can make teriyaki chicken for my daughter. I hope it's good!

You always have to ask. Sometimes enchilada sauce is fine but it could have wheat in it. Fajitas are usually safe but they might use soy sauce on the meat. Refried beans are usually safe but I have heard of a few places that put flour in them to thicken. If we are at all unsure, we get beans, rice and corn tortillas.

ARCHIVED Nathan's Hotdogs
Juliebove replied to ejitt00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I knew there was some reason we didn't buy them. Normally we buy uncured beef when we buy them...which is not often. But the last time we bought some big long ones from Costco. I can't remember the brand. They probably have nitrates in them. Dunno. -
ARCHIVED Kinda Unknown G/f Restaurants California
Juliebove replied to JustMe75's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Garlic Jim's uses a special gluten-free flour on all their pizzas. They say it's the only flour being tossed around. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Menu Options At Mcdonalds And Wendys
Juliebove replied to GFCahleen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My dad told me today that Wendys is changing its menu and the salads will no longer be the same. Sounds like they are doing salads more like Arbys. They are now owned by the same company. I used to trust Wendys. Do not trust Arbys. -

Kirkland (Costco) is soy free. And there is a mainstream brand that has a gold top or is in a gold can. Can't remember if it is Starkist or Bumblebee. One of those. -
Daughter and I dined there again last night. I ordered the dressing on the side because I hate dressing on my salad. Waitress told me it was not gluten-free. When I said that the menu indicated that it was, she called another waitress over who also said that it was not. I pointed out that the menu said the salad was safe, minus the croutons. Daughter...

I don't know what's safe to eat there! Looks to me like there is pretty much wheat in everything. It has been a while since I looked. And I do have additional food allergies. But I think the only safe things for me are applesauce, bacon and maybe a green salad.

ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Eat gluten-free In A Household Of G-Eaters?
Juliebove replied to kimann79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At first we went totally gluten free. But then my husband started complaining. So I would buy him prepared sandwiches. Eventually I started buying occasional loaves of bread. That is kept in a separate place and we have a gluten free toaster. I buy occasional boxed of crackers and prepared cookies and cakes for husband. Daughter is the one with the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Menu Options At Mcdonalds And Wendys
Juliebove replied to GFCahleen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Do they use dedicated fryers? We don't have them here but I remember going to one in CA. I used to get my daughter the chicken stars. That was before we knew of her allergies. Pretty sure they have wheat in them. -
ARCHIVED Newbie- Help W/social Eating Situations
Juliebove replied to ftmomma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Baked beans might not be safe. Some canned beans contain gluten. But your biggest concern at an event like that is cross contamination. If I were you I would eat beforehand, sneak off to my vehicle and eat there, or only eat what I brought. But in doing that you would risk cross contamination. What I have done in similar situations is bring a dish... -
Have you tried popped sorghum? I got some for popping at American Spice, online. It's tiny. When popped it looks like dollhouse popcorn. But it tastes just like popcorn.

ARCHIVED Rant On What Gluten Free Really Means...
Juliebove replied to NorthernElf's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We've gotten gluten free pasta many times at the Old Spaghetti Factory here. The only problems we've had were extremely slow service. Once they not only comped our meal but gave us gift certificates for the next time. That meal took 2 hours to get. The last time we were in, I was suspicous because the pasta looked different. They used to use a corn... -
ARCHIVED Milky Way Candy Bar
Juliebove replied to M&M LOVER's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hated the tan ones as a child. Would pick them out and try to throw them away when my parents weren't looking. For some reason I thought they tasted less chocolatey than the dark brown ones. Those were my favorite. Although I was happy they got rid of them, I did not like the blue ones. I just think blue food is wrong. I have a friend who claims... -
ARCHIVED Bread Maker
Juliebove replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought a cheap one and gave it a lot of use at first. I had one loaf come out. The rest did not. Also found that the loaves were shaped oddly. Not so good for sandwiches. Mine is in the garage now, gathering dust. -

I do a pasta salad with tricolored corn and quinoa pasta, black beans and all sorts of raw vegetables and olives with an Italian dressing. You can add meat to this if you want. Cubed ham or slices of hard salami cut in strips would be good. Tomatoes stuffed with tuna salad. Tonight we are having taco salads. I'm having mine with seasoned ground beef... -
ARCHIVED Nathan's Hotdogs
Juliebove replied to ejitt00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nathan's used to not be gluten-free but the now are. If your package said they were, I assume they are. But... Could it be they didn't clean the equipment well enough when they changed the formula? How was the hotdog prepared? If you made it at home on safe equipment, then I don't know. But if at a BBQ at someone elses's house, it could have been... -

ARCHIVED Tall Order For Easy Dinners
Juliebove replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When Angela was little, I spent a good 2 hours a week cutting up veggies for the week. I also cut cheese into cubes. And I boiled a dozen eggs at a time. Now that she is older, she likes to do the prep work so I don't have to do that. -
ARCHIVED Tall Order For Easy Dinners
Juliebove replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No dairy in it. The way I make it for myself now is to slice it thinly, top with tomato sauce, freshly ground black pepper and some Italian seasoning. Then put it in the microwave. The way I used to make it was to slice it thickly, dry it in olive oil, then put the sliced overlapping in a casserole. Top it with sauce and seasonings as above and maybe... -
ARCHIVED Tall Order For Easy Dinners
Juliebove replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Angela ate baby food only briefly. She didn't really like it. She would just grab food from my plate and eat it. I figured she was ready. At a year she could eat pretty much anything. We didn't know of the food allergies at the time though. Two of her favorite foods were green beans, straight from the can, and black olives. If you are worried about... -
ARCHIVED Bread!

Daughter likes the Ener-G Rice Starch bread. Granted we have to buy things with no egg or dairy. She has outgrown these allergies but must limit her intake. -
ARCHIVED Amy's Rice Crust Pizza
Juliebove replied to Heather's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm... Daughter has been having weird zits. They're there one day and the next her face will be clear without us having done anything. We generally eat this pizza on Sundays, but last week we had Garlic Jim's and I occasionally make it with Ener-G crust. I will have to keep an eye on that!
