  1. I have a Chinese lady friend with Celiac. We figured out that many nationalities carry the genes, but don't actually have a problems until they go on a gluten laden American diet. And of course something will trigger the symptoms, whether it be a surgery, accident or in the case of the female population, a pregnacy.
  2. It is strange, because I've eaten whole dates without a problem, the trouble seems to come if I use those I pound blocks wrapped in plastic. You know the ones you can cut up fine and throw in the pot to make a nice date paste. I think I will try to buy some whole dates and work with that. Either that or substitute mincemeat in the recipe, I'll bet that...
  3. Rusla, it's been over 40 years since I've had a date with a two legged one. And I'm only 39 years old .... Now if you'll believe that one, I have this ocean front property in the kootenays for sale.
  4. Yes, both foundation and lipstick can cause a glutening. Bonnie Bell make up is gluten free, and there are several others. Look through the Foods and Products and you should find another thread on make up ... or several of them
  5. Okay, I googled it, and no where can I find any use of starch, or flour of any kind. So, unless it used in the packing, they should be gluten free. Now, how do I find out if starch is used in the packing
  6. I agree, anything that sticky could well carry molds, but you think over the years I keep trying, I would get a batch without any molds or yeast. It really is frustrating when you try and get answers sometimes.
  7. Okay, dates are one of my favourite foods, however I keep having reactions to them. Blisters, bloating etc. I also notice that they don't show up in the newest Safeway gluten free list. Does anyone know how they are pitted? I was wondering if they use something to keep the dates from sticking on the pitting machine. Dates themselves would be naturally...
  8. If you are in Canada, all Neo Citron hot drinks are gluten free!
  9. I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time right now. If you have ingested gluten that could also cause the muscle spasms and I get the shakes when contaminated. And yes, most of us have trouble with bloating. You go quite a while without urinating and then when the gluten starts to leave the body, you are in the bathroom all the time. At least...
  10. There is also one Canadian company, and one American company that has gluten free oats. However, they are pretty expensive. If you are from Britian the Irish oats are your best bet
  11. Those are scary dreams! I find that Tylonal sometimes makes me dream more. I've had one where I get into a car accident and end up in the hospital and they keep telling me that I have to eat before they will release me, and every thing they bring is gluten laden The real scary part of this one, is that it can happen ... hospitals are really bad for...
  12. Thank you, I'm pretty sure we can get Lindt here in Canada, will check on them ... not that I need it ... but I LOVE chocolate
  13. I'll have to look for those peanut butter hearts
  14. Oh yes ... there is lots of gluten free candy out there! Cadbury, & Hershey put out quite a few gluten free bars and chocolates. Read the labels and watch for Malt flavouring amoung the obvious cookie stuff. Malt is a no no. M&M's are gluten free ... the chocolate and peanut ones. I think there should be a candy thread on here some where...
  15. Yes, I've seen that happen even with dogs and wild meat.
  16. It would be called lettuce cole slaw Nope, not problem with the machinery...it's a totally different system.
  17. Welcome to the forum. You are going to have a real learning curve, but you can always come here to ask any questions. There are many very experienced people on this board. They will help with the diet, emotions and how to deal with friends and family who may not understand. They will also make you laugh, and that is very good medicine for Celiac disease
  18. Thank you Peter ... I was wondering what it worked out to be as well I knew it was British, but not the math.
  19. This thread should be in the Coping with section, there is no better way to Cope than all this laughter
  20. Thanks for that Rebecca, it's really appreciated!
  21. I didn't know that! That is certainly something to remember. Thank you Nancy, Rachel and Lisa ... I'm going to send that info to my daughter too, who does take more antacids than I do.
  22. Maltodextrin In North America I believe it is made from corn, but apparently even if it is made from wheat, all the offending protein is removed. Which is probably why it is labelled 'Suitable for Coeliac's'
  23. Wow, an 86% jump in gluten free foods! I knew we were finding a lot more, but had no idea it was that much more.
  24. Sounds like it should be an identical diagnosis. to the good looking one
