This is my personal history only - as such it's only one source. I have been gluten-free for 7 years now. Insurance -well the year I did the sleep lab & broke my leg, I got to within $50 of my deductible. gluten-free diet does not involve doctors -we can/do this on our own. For me - ten years ago, I had all the usual tests. Thyroid, HDL/LDL, Iron, all...

Ok, I'm asking for some ideas here. First - I bet it is an erroneous lab test. That said, I just got Ige/Iga results and they only show Asparagus & clams (fantastic since 10 years ago there were over 50 items on the not-to-eat list). I also just got all my blood work done. Thyroid is fine. HDL/LDL inconclusive due to Triglyceride level of 425. Iron is...

ARCHIVED Have Any Of You Tried These Products?
Cruiser Bob replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cravings Place are gluten-free, Egg and dairy free. I really like the coffee cake. The kids like the cookie dough because they can eat it raw (did that ever stop any of us when we wer little?) And I love Julie's email address: queenofthekitchen Craving's Place is in Bend, Oregon - where I lived for 20+ years. The owner is gluten-free and she really... -
ARCHIVED In Limbo And Have No Willpower
Cruiser Bob replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes - on and off all the time for the past 7+ years of learning how to operate this new body - with no operators manual. Here's a short story (true) to help you get that glass half full again It took me 3 years to break my chocolate cravings - knowing that if/when I ate chocolate I'd get a big zit on my nose that would stay at least 3 weeks. My mom... -

ARCHIVED Help Me With My Back Ache!
Cruiser Bob replied to chatycady's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My body has been aching way more than I think it should for my age/condition/activity for over 3-4 years now. The Sciatica has been 12+years and my right wrist is always in pain. That's on a gluten-free, DF, Egg free, Nightshade free, chocolate free, coffee free diet. I'm convinced things are intermixed: Celiac, RLS, Insomnia, body pain, energy level... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Eat For Breakfast?!
Cruiser Bob replied to LittleZoe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Breakfast is a pain. At least you can eat eggs. Lydias grainless granola, rice crispies, corn flakes, dried blueberries and almond milk. Eat again in 2.5 hours. Rice CRunchems, sometime Gorilla Crunch w/banana. Apple pie w/cool whip - found that at Whole Foods a few weeks ago - no clue what I paid for it, but it was good. This week I tried: Coconut... -
ARCHIVED Pancake Recipe
Cruiser Bob replied to mommyhugz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Kinnikinik makes a good pancake mix too. OR, make crepes, kids love them. Two eggs 1 cup milk (I use Almond milk, not dairy) 1 cup rice flour (I tried sourgum but it doesn't work as well) - or use 1 cup unlevened mix, or use corn starch dash or so of Vanilla 1-2 TBLSP sugar Whisk until smooth and creamy Cook in hot pan in a little butter... -
ARCHIVED A Question For Parents With Dairy Free Families
Cruiser Bob replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For us, it was "hot poo". Those were some of Thomas' first words. Both kids (1 &3) were put on a gluten-free, DF, Egg free diet. Amazing - the ear infections went away, the diaper rash/hot poo went away, the attitude problems of "terible twos" mellowed out to near normal the never ending circular cold/flu left the family. Now at ages 14/16 they both are... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Cruiser Bob replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I whole heartedly agree with your post. The medical community offered me nothing....instead of making steps forward I was actually taking big steps in the wrong direction. Having access to the internet and to alternative sources has been a "life-saver" for me. So, here's what's cooking on round 3,4,5?? of figuring out what's going on inside me. Intuitive... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Cruiser Bob replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Having just relocated to CA, thus I'm out of my food element, I'd have to say this is a wonderful BB, wtih lots of good people and information. As for getting better - it takes time. I've been gluten-free for 7 years now, stalled on health issues for about 4 years, around a gluten-free family for over 12 years, and I'm still trying to learn how to operate... -
ARCHIVED How Long?
Cruiser Bob replied to Q1821's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
7 years - at least that's what I'm hoping because I'm in year 7 of being gluten-free and would really like to put a little dairy/egg/chocolate/coffee/nightshades back into my diet and maybe even ask Santa for a stable digestive track and a body that works a little better. That's just me, not everyone. I'm sure it depends on age, lifestyle, genes and condition... -
My whole family has been tested many times (3 generations). Iga/Ige on me - negative, DNA - negative. Dad - biopsy - possitive, kids, gluten-free diet - no more health issues, me - pure hell, then a gluten-free diet and things are better - not 100%, but much better. Ige/Iga test #2 is in process - we'll see what happens. Bob gluten-free-1999

ARCHIVED Question Regarding Accuracy Of Blood Tests ...
Cruiser Bob replied to LittleZoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Over the years I've had one food allergy blood test - allergic to almost everything (now I read into that leaky gut), and one very specific genetic blood test. Both showed no gluten issues. My dad is diagnosed celiac, both kids are thriving on a gluten-free diet and I'm starting to thrive again on a gluten-free, dairy/egg/nightshade and anything else fun... -

ARCHIVED A Little Insight From Others
Cruiser Bob replied to Megz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Megan, I went through similar issues about a year ago, after being gluten-free for 5-6 years now. I had to eat every 3 hours or so, or I got dizzy, my body temps were all over the place, it was not fun. I'm now at a point where I can stretch meal times, but if I don't eat often, or the proper foods I pay. Not to overwhelm, but you may also consider dropping... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Grass Question
Cruiser Bob replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's interesting, because I was told Wheat Grass was gluten-free, that the gluten formed in the grain, not the plant material. But, alas, will I eat/drink wheat grass - nope, I'm chicken to try. Just reflecting what I was told. Bob -
ARCHIVED How To Get A Pre-teen To Go Wheat Free?
Cruiser Bob replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There's no easy way to get kids to eat "properly" in our view, with respect to food allergies or sensitivities. My kids have been gluten-free for 12+ years now, live between 2 gluten-free households and generally do pretty well with their diet. I know they cheat and I know they enjoy it when they do, and yes the "nightmare girl" surfaces when she doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Sushi?
Cruiser Bob replied to Sinenox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy Sauce did it. I've finally gotten to where I carry gluten-free Tamari with me where ever I go. I have also successfully had sushi with them using my tamari. For Xmas, I got the family gluten-free Tamari in those little packets too. I travel a bunch for work and sushi is almost always a safe bet - short of the soy sauce. Bob -
ARCHIVED Healthy Hemp Tortillas
Cruiser Bob replied to tarnalberry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had these for a while now - off and on. The flavor is unique, but they do fold up into a burrito fairly well. There are also some rice tortillas that are pretty good - when you heat them just right. I haven't figured out a consistent way of heating them to perfection yet. Bob -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Points Of Interest For Gps Navigation

What a novel idea. You may have hit on something really functional for those of us that travel anywhere - in the world. This might be something I need to follow through with and see where it gets us.
