  1. Yup, I'm one of those negative blood works and positive biopsy people. The endoscopy was exploratory because I was having so many problems. I wasn't evenout of the drugs before the dr was saying it is text book celiacs and the biopsy results agreed. Don't know what to tell you about the blood work...
  2. I'd swear it just depends on exactly how much of what I ate. I have vomitted and nearly passed out with shakes and chills from a meal at a restaurant that I called ahead and spoke with the manager about. grrrrrr! NOthing shocks me anymore for reactions!
  3. I'd like to start a food allergy/intolerance support group in Southwest Florida in the Fort Myers area. I know there are celiacs here, but I can't find a support group. Seems like all the celiacs are on the east coast Anyone have kids attending the school system here that can give me some advice for next year. This past year was my first experience...
  4. I don't have my list with me, but you can search this site. I know most gluten-free Cook books go into details about what ingredients are allowed and not allowed. If you are still having problems, go to a whole foods only diet. Fresh unprocessed meats, fruits, and veggies until you can call on everything else that you use or eat. Start keeping a list of foods...
  5. As for kitechen items: A new gluten-free toaster. A new gluten-free collander. No wooden spoons or cutting boards. No teflon/non-stick pans. No cast iron pans. Buy disposable gloves! You find a use for them once you buy them. My kids are not gluten-free, so I use gloves when I make their sandwhiches for school. Bathroom: Check your toothpastes...
  6. Hi everyone, I've been looking for a support group in the Fort Myers, Florida area and never found one. So, now I'd like to start one. My family has a variety of food allergies, so I was planning on this being a support group for all food allergies and intolerances. I am a celiac and my kids have peanut/tree nut, milk, shellfish allergies. And all...
  7. IMO a lot of the problems I have at my kids school comes directly from the teachers or the nurse. This past year the teacher was awsome!! Couldn't have asked for anything better. As for the nurse, anyone would have been better . There has been enough miscommunication, lack of advanced warning, etc that I am looking into a 504. I don't know enough about...
  8. Sorry to hear you are going through this. It is really hard to have aloved one sick and getting sicker and nothing you can do to help. I think a lot of partners and spouses feel similar to you - very frustrated that the other half is sick, but not diagnosable. This disease can really be hard until you get a diagnosis. Has your partner had the blood work and...
  9. I keep a stash of Cherry Brooke Kitchen cupcakes in the freezer and icing is easy to make. Cherry Brooke Kitchen cupcakes are gluten-free, dairy free (lactose free), egg, free, nut free and they taste great! You might need to find a "cool factor treat". If he is too old for cupcakes, see about making choclates or buying some, but make it something fun...
  10. Hello and welcome. Glad to hear you figured it out so easily for her. FYI: Talk to the chefs at the Girl Scout Camp now and they should be able to start figuring out what they can provide and what you need to provide.
  11. IMO Delta has a terrible policy on food allergies in general. I would not trust them to make a safe gluten-free meal. If at all possible, I never fly Delta due to their allgery policy. Of course, that is just my opinion!
  12. I think I need to set up a 504 for my child for the fall. This really upsets me and I don't know why? I have been very reluctant to have to label her a 504. What exactly does a 504 do? I know it provides legal rights which can be used for food allergic children, but what does it cover? How will it affect her daily life at school? Who has used this in their...
  13. Just when I thought the school year was finally running smoothly...it's over. School ended today. My child attends after school care at her elementary school, which turns into summer camp with 3 field trips a week. Her Kindergarten teacher is great. The after school group kill me. It has been a crazy two weeks for other reasons so today I stop in to talk...
  14. More than likely your body is just taking some time to adjust and start to feel better. But talk to your doctor about it. I had lower right abdominal pain for years. Hospitalized for it once. I was always told it was a "female thing". Turn out I had adhessions. They grew for some reason and attached like gumbands to different organs. For me, it caused unreal...
  15. You really are in a pickle! My kids have food allergies and I have Celiacs. I don't know much about the IEP program, but I'll tell you what I've done when the schools were causing problems. My daughter's daycare found her Peanut allergy by feeding her Nutter Butters even though there was a huge sign about no nuts in the building. She was eventually removed...
  16. They used to make Blondies that were great. But what I HATE about Whole Foods Bakery is everything is made on shared equipment with nuts! So many of us have multiple allergies and in my house it is nuts. Just irritates me because I was really looking forward to a good gluten-free bakery near me. Now the only time I get their baked goods is when I am in...
  17. Sorry to hear you are going through this. Best of luck. As much as I hate to say it, what about chocolate? Empty calories yes, but you need anythign a toddler will eat right now. And mine will do back flips for chocolate. Maybe some peanut butter? Add so Soy Yogurt to help the bowels heal up. Also try feeding smaller meals every two hours. Give good...
  18. Hi, Not sure what you have. You can check and see if you are anemic. Anemia would make you too tired to move. The doc John can run a blood panel to look for anemia and malnutrician. If you are still losing weight but eating enough, many celiacs show up with malnutrician. I know you said you were off wheat, but have you checked everything to be sure you are...
  19. You might want to start a new post and ask for help interpretting the results. It does make a difference on exactly what blood work was done. You may not have had the right test or your resutls may have been a false negative. A lot of people on this site are very good at interpreting results. Otherwise, there is no harm in doing the gluten-free diet...
  20. I would take her to the specialist your self. If that means wait until the end of thr summer, then wait. She may et sick enough during the summer that she and Dad will both see that somethign is really wrong after all. I know you don't want to wait to go gluten-free, but that might be the best if she is resistant. Otherwise, she will cheat on the diet no...
  21. Another thing that helped is my daughter actually liked the Brown sugar shredded wheat cereal. Not sure what the gluten-free equivalent would be, but find something high in fiber - even those fiber drinks. She tried the cereal at a friends house and loved it. So she ate 5 shredded wheats before she could eat breakfast. Give lots of water and some juice if...
  22. Hi Annie/NM. You described the battle we had with my daughter. She got constipated once and had a painful poop and that ended our potty ttraining. She was convinced poopy would hurt, so she withheld (5 days!) and by then it does hurt. We battled this for years! No amount of reward or punishment made a difference. She has been on adult dosages of Miralax...
  23. CONGRATS!!! Sounds like you need a trip to the OB. I would say you are pregnant. Those prego tests don't usually give a false positive. You have to have the chemical in your system and you only make that chemical when pregnant. Call your OB's nurse and they will tell you what to do. Be sure you are taking your folic acid
  24. I've always used Joy dish soap. Sounds bad, but it's not. They don't get washed daily or even weekly fo rthat matter. If I am in a pinch, I just use the basic family shampoo from suave. Then they smell like lavendar mmmmmm...
  25. An allergy is a histamin (sp?) reaction in the body. Celiacs does not cause a histamin reaction. But you can be allergic to wheat in addition to beign a celiac. If your child does have a food allergy, you want to ask if an epi-pen is required for your child. These are used to treat anaphylactic reactions. (You will want to know the signs for this one...
