    ARCHIVED Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Just want to say good luck,,,I know it is tough to find the right dr. But please don't give up.
  2. Lisa,,, Oh, my,,what a trip for so many tests. I hope the mall shopping made some of the trip pleasant. I guess I should count my blessing I live only 20 minutes away from my gastro and hospital. I threw up to with that gaggy stuff we had to drink. Glad it's all over for you. Sherylj
  3. Dessa, Nothing I can say can make the hurt and sadness go away. There are many out there who grieve with you and for your loss,,,me included. I am so sorry your friend is gone. My 47 year old brother gave up the fight Feb 4 and my tears just roll down my cheeks as I write this. I didn't want to see my suffering, ill brother go on living but I want...
  4. I am glad your appt. went well and your endocrinologist was knowledgeable and aware of the pros and cons of Armour..I went to the site out of curiousity,,not having any thryroid problems and no preconceived notions and came away feeling it was promoting its product (which is okay) I am way over my head with the technical jargon but it seems if you are...
  5. There is more than one product out there to use. I added Metamucil, (I mix it with water) I did not see any gluten sources listed in the ingredients. If the fibersure has no wheat sources try it in your recipes. My other sources of fiber,,fresh pineapple, and I add a few precooked beans to my homemade soups or have a side of baked beans with my meal...
  6. Steve, It is wonderful to see how many friends you have on this forum. Having just joined I have followed your situation with interest ad learned quite a bit about gluten levels in England vs. here in the states. I noticed this referral to temper tantrums and it hit me I have had some this past year,,,along with throwing small stuff,,,my anger just...
  7. You have all the same symptoms I did and my biopsy came back positive for celiac. But it is hard to wait for the diagnosis. I was loopy after the biopsy as well. I have been on the diet now for 3 weeks and am doing okay but I was off and on this diet for 10 years. And I've had some practice at following the gluten-free recommendations. (My dr. wasn't...
  8. Those symptoms ususaly tell me I ned to get some sleep and take something to bring the temp down. What ever usually works for you. Take care of yourself,,,no one else will (my motto) Hope you feel better in the morning.!
  9. Denise, I am diagnosed Bipolar Type II and I would love the wheat free diet to make that go away. I felt intense joy when first diagnosed that I finally had "control" over my disease. Yes, I do have control over my diet. But my Bipolar diagnosis is still there and I am still taking my meds. The first post I wrote was asking "can I ease off my meds...
  10. Annie,,I thought I might lose on the gluten free diet as well and I feel like I need to eat all the time to "make up" for what I can't have. Don't know if this is part of what is going on but there are alot of things out there that are gluten free that are NOT good for us. (like the bag of potato chips I had tonight) Weight watchers worked for me in the...
  11. Is anyone else going to miss Girl Scout cookies...I haven't had any bad moments till now!!!!!!
  12. I am new to the forum but want to welcome you and encourage you to stay with the gluten free diet. If his intestine was so damaged it will take time so I wouldn't give up. Did you also cut out dairy products? Those will cause pain because the damaged intestine can not absorb the dairy. Did you have an allergist test for other possible allergens? Just...
  13. Lions and tigers and bears,,OH,NO! lions and tigers and bears..OH, NO. I sang this on my college campus arm and arm with my "Dorothy" friend fans (ahem,,,many years ago ) as we negotiated the "yellow brick road" and just heard it on campus last week when visiting my daughter. Go Spartans! Some things like M-I-C-K-E-Y and Oscar Meyer are classics...
  14. I was just diagnozed celiax and yes,,,I have always had itchy skin but no rash,,,(the itchiness has almost gone away),,,I can even wear an "scratchy" sweater that previously would have driven me crazy. My stomach pain was in my upper left so it sounded like reflux. And yes,,,I was prescribed the Prilosec a few years back I really would suggest...
  15. Peanut Butter and Banana on Rice Cake (though some say Quakers Rice cakes are not made on dedicated gluten free machines (So tommorrow I am trying my first sample of rice flour bread I found in the frozen bread section at Whole Foods. There is a grain meal called polenta but it only has 2 grams of protein. I fix it with butter and brown sugar melted...
  16. Congrats on the move!! How is the weather out in Salem?
  17. From my experience hitting a plateau in weight loss is quite common,,you are doing the right thing staying away from dairy,,And you report feeling better,,you mean the bloating went away? I agree I have not found many gluten free ready made cookies, crackers than I can really say are wonderful but I am still experimenting. Some one suggested that soy cream...
  18. I sent a copy of this post to my daughter who is a student a MSU. She had an epidode so like what you are talking about. She was exercising,,the hives started...she went to student health and they gave her a shot for allergies (as she has some allergies to carrots and parsley) but she had not eaten either of those foods? Then she fainted and they transported...

    Wow

Dear ACK 514,,Yes, you do have a problem and I am glad you have at least one other college student in the same boat. My daughter is away for her first year of college and has allergies so we met with the caf manager to help identify foods with hidden parsley. I am wondering if she may be celiac has she has trouble maintaining a normal weight. While there...
  20. I too thought I had "gluten sensitivity" for 10 years and my dr. was not inclined to recommend biopsy until after my symptoms increased in severity. Save yourself the pain of the increase in severity and get a biopsy of the small intestine now. I had played with gluten-free diet for 10 years cause I thought I only had a "sensitivity". By eliminating gluten...
  21. hi,,YES, YES, YES, used to throw up all the time..never had the big D, was constipated instead..Go figure!!! one of the classic symptoms is the big D so I was always confused about whether I did have celiac or not. After 10 years of off and symptoms and off and on gluten-free diet my dr. did recommend the biopsy because I ended up in the hospital with possible...
  22. I came away from my biopsy thinking I didn't have celiac because it wasn't apparent from dr. initial internal scope exam. The microscopic exams of biopsies were the key. The dr. told my husband it didn't look like celiac (while I was still sedated) and I went home and ate gluten for a week until dr. called and said,,,oh, by the way, the biopsies show celiac...
  23. Just had my biopsy done a month ago,,it was easy, cause they sedated me completely. I highly recommend complete sedation,,not just numbing the throat as some folks have reported. And yes serveral biopsies of the villi(lining of the small intestine). My report states the biopsies came from the second a part of the duodenum?? I guess there are diffeent...
  24. I want to talk to my sil about the dangers of what he is doing to his body by continuing to gluten his body hoping that she can talk to him. I know that there are those of you who have had it longer than I have and are more experienced with it and the dangers of it. I was wondering if some of you would be so kind as to post some of the dangers as to what...
