  1. So, it seems like liquid supplements are probably going to be safest for you. I'll do some research online and see what I can find for you. For now, consider coconut milk. You can poach fish in it, you can make smoothies with the safe fruit (cherry's good if those are safe), you can make soups. It will add lots of fat to your diet. I'm on my way out of work...
  2. Oh would you people just SHUT UP already with the freakin cookie ice cream brownie CRAP!!!! God, I'm hungry. Speaking of which, here's a link to a lovely cakey brownie that comes out very soft and would make a very nice cookie for sandwiches if baked very thin. Guess what I'll be doing once the temperature in my 3rd floor apartment gets below...
  3. Definitely not alone, everybody has different quirks. It's really all about your body's stress level. I can run my body into the ground (physically) and be fine. But stress me out or make me nervous about something and you better move out of the way when I'm headed for the potty. Kind of annoying, actually, but hey. You're not alone!
  4. Ann, I want you to keep something in mind. Celiac works in two ways: malnutrition, and the improper autoimmune response. Symptoms like tingles, weakness, dizzyness, and painful gums are USUALLY a result of malnutrition. It may be that most of your Celiac 'symptoms' were from the malnutrition, rather than the autoimmune reaction set of symptoms so many get...
  5. Cross contamination is CC. It is entirely possible that the exertion of exercise combined with the toxins released when you do so is causing your symptoms. When you say 'makes my Celiac act up' that usually kind of means you got glutened. Anything else is NOT because of gluten, right, so not necessarily DUE to Celiac. I find myself that if I get stressed...
  6. I think the answer is there is no definite answer. These books are made by humans, and humans are fallible. I can tell you brown rice syrup has always been safe for me, it's made from- brown rice. 'Malt' anything is not, it's almost always made from barley. Basically, there is no perfect master list. Your best bet with any questions is to call the manufacturer...
  7. Can you tell me what kind of symptoms you're talking about?
  8. One. Do you know of any food banks which are willing to save gluten free food for those that need it? Last I checked, most simply have a first come first served policy. It'd be great if there were any that did. Might be easier to find those in need here. Two. Three. Are we now requiring membership cards? Does someone need a...
  9. Do you mean that when you do those things, you feel the symptoms you get when glutened?
  10. Please understand that I'm not trying to be annoying, just wanted to point something out for you. I think you were trying to say 'bromelain' enzyme, which is good for helping digest food. A bromeliad is a tropical epiphyte plant that people usually keep indoors as ornamental plants, not something you would eat. You can find bromelain/papain chewables at your...
  11. Where, pray tell, is this storied bakery?!?! Good for you workin!
  12. I suppose my biggest issue with this article is that it is nutritionally inaccurate. Humans do not need grains for nutrition. Period. I have heard of no medical condition in which a grain free diet would be detrimental. There is no nutrient you can't get from fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and meat/fish. So it can't hurt you to be grain free. So why...
  13. The test used during edoscopy is extremely fallible. I was about as sick as it is possible to get and still be alive, and mine came up 'negative'. If the doc's any good, he should know that though.
  14. Our first date was laser tag and a movie. The second one I cooked. We went to a concert once. I always hated the 'sit at dinner, stare at partner, think of something interesting to say' date. If you're DOING something interesting, you'll have something interesting to say. SGW, THANK YOU for that list! It'll give me something fun to spring on my boyfriend...
  15. K! Hey Em!!! If you come visit me (CT) on your way back, I'll bake! I'll bake danish made with agave and stevia and pizza and I make a bangin homemade mac & cheese and you should try the pineapple chicken I made the other day. And pasta alfredo and garlic bread and Chebe pigs in a blanket, and I've been meaning to try making homemade ice...
  16. Bunnie poop-in!!! I's been MIA, I's a bad girl. Manda, my sister is a trollop who's evil and has the world's biggest mood swings. She went from all organic no gluten to McDonald's for ABSOUTELY no reason, just because she didn't feel like it anymore. The kids look terrible, and boy are they confused. I know how you feel. Dat's all I caught up on,...
  17. I know, I'm a goof. It came out looking like a demented mushroom, but my microwave is on crack compared to other people's, I lowered the power setting and that helped a bit.
  18. Anyone have trouble with the bun coming out royally funkified shapes with holes in the middle?
  19. That one's super easy- beef broth & onion, simmer. Never fails. If you like it sweeter, carmelize the onion in butter first. On that note, I LOVE taking butternut squash soup and simmering lots of onion in it til the onion falls apart, needs to be fresh sweet onion though or else it gets mealy and blah.
  20. If you see the cheddar biscuits, ooh baby go for those. They're cheesy tasting with a tiny bit of cayenne kick. Totally skip the hamburger buns, they're terrible. Cornbread's just ok, much cheaper and tastier to make a Bob's mix for that. Pie crust is all right, kinda mealy and bland, again a homemade crust, maybe of crushed cookies, is always better. Pizza...
  21. I would add a caution to this- many people are utterly unaware of cross-conatmination issues. Your uncle may describe a perfectly safe routine for making his coleslaw, but use mayo that has had gluten covered knives dragged through it a dozen times. He may even be eating a sandwich at the time he makes the coleslaw and drop crumbs in there! Unless someone...
  22. I agree. If you are brought to an eating disorder clinic by your parents, and you sit down and say to the staff, "I believe I have certain food sensitivities, and my parents do not want to allow me to try and figure out what they are myself. They have threatened to hit me if I do not eat the foods I think I may be allergic to or intolerant of. I will happily...
  23. Keep in mind that the first few days/week of a new probiotic regimen can be a bit unpleasant for your belly. Th good bugs start killing the bad bugs, and the bad bugs release toxins as they die, making you feel crappy. Try to stick with it, it doesn't happen to everyone and it's rarely truly a problem. I take PB8, it's gluten-free and recomended by our naturopath...
  24. Try the Lay's Stax, they're made in a gluten-free facility. They're certainly not health food, but they're yummy!
