It could have been CC from someone having touched gluten before preparing your dish--or after in setting it down. etc. unfortunately. Or even the plate or cookware having old baked in gluten... For all that, sundried tomatoes could be suspect in that regard... Bea

I've had the effect of kissing someone who ate a subway sandwich before hand and did brush but did not rinse!! last 4 weeks!! Acchh!! So now I am less inclined to just casually date someone even if its someone I know from the past before I knew I needed to be off all trace gluten. Whole new habits. Its kind of freaky. I can't be as spontaneous. I often forget...

ARCHIVED Necessary To Replace Pots & Pans & Utensils?
YoloGx replied to shirleyujest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wanted to say they now have these awesome gluten free cake mixes you can buy. You can't tell the dif. with regular cake. Try it. Bring the cake next time, you will be glad you did! I just wish I could handle sugar etc. but that is a different story. Bea -
ARCHIVED Able To Lower Prescription Dosages Once Gluten-free?
YoloGx replied to Michiganlady's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just in case--you should check to make sure your meds are gluten-free! But apart from that, being off gluten often decreases one's depression, anxiety etc. Bea -
Absolutely! He needs to brush and floss his teeth and rinse his mouth and wash his face and hands before kissing you after he's eaten gluten or you will end up feeling awful. This has happened to me several times with dates. I was surprised at the resistance! Now I have a boyfriend who is OK with it, however I have to still ask and remind him. Hopefully with...

ARCHIVED Necessary To Replace Pots & Pans & Utensils?
YoloGx replied to shirleyujest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If somehow you could remove the grill grate and put it in your self cleaning oven at the proverbial 600 degrees that might work--assuming it doesn't warp or melt!! But then of course there is the matter of the cover too. You might be better off all things considering just getting a new one. Maybe one for you and one for hubby? Bea -
ARCHIVED Necessary To Replace Pots & Pans & Utensils?
YoloGx replied to shirleyujest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
cast iron pots and pans can be put through the oven cleaner cycle at 600 degrees to get rid of the old gluten. Yes it really does take a full 600 degrees. Am not sure how long one needs to have it on. I did it for an hour just to make sure. Takes a while for the oven to open afterwards in order to cool off. Then wash the pots and re-season with oil. ARCHIVED Now Something Else To Worry About
YoloGx replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sure you are not getting glutened? It sounds like you are. Canker sores etc. are common side effect. It certainly happens to me. Maybe some CC?? Bea -
Here's a site about cleavers. Check the picture and info to see if its the same herb: Open Original Shared Link Its one of the best lymphatic drains there is. Very powerful, so start slow til you get used to it. If it doesn't agree at first I suggest you use echinacea leaf. Apparently according to another site an alternative name for cleavers is "sticky...

I have written a lot about it here on celiac.com--using marshmallow root, enterically coated acidophilus, apple cider vinegar, pancreatin digestive enzymes right away and maybe some baking soda (leave an hour between the vinegar and baking soda so you don't fizz!!). If you can eat yogurt, pineapple and papaya, do so! Then after the D has gone, use detox...

ARCHIVED I Was So Hungry And Afraid I Am Really Sad Right Now
YoloGx replied to Cinnamon7778's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cinnamon and all, Interesting to see how we are all different and yet have other similarities. For myself its harder to eat fish--especially white fish! Be careful if you do eat fish; its important to not eat too much due to mercury. Nevertheless it is a very good food otherwise. I prefer chicken to beef or pork--both of which are usually too heavy... -
Just a note--I thought I was allergic to vinegar--but it turned out I really am not. Its just most vinegars have gluten as a source or cross contamination. I now only use apple cider vinegar--Bragg's or Trader Joe's. I seem to have no problem with either despite struggles with candida. Have others experienced this too? For years I just used lemon juice as...

ARCHIVED Question: Can Avoiding Wheat Potentially Make You Intolerant?
YoloGx replied to detox's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No doubt--but its not a good sign to react like that at all my friend. I suggest he get tested for celiac. Many are undiagnosed with this condition. They may "adjust" back to eating gluten, but behind the scenes their body is rapidly deteriorating. Cancer, diabetes, depressions, fibromyalgia, nerve and heart problems, and auto immune diseases frequently are... -
ARCHIVED I Was So Hungry And Afraid I Am Really Sad Right Now
YoloGx replied to Cinnamon7778's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good comments so far, particularly the hypoglycemia angle and need for protein. You might also try going off rice for a while too--it might be an allergen for you--possibly severe. Some of us have to go off all grains at least for a while in order to heal. Try squash and roots as alternative carbs for a while. Do consider eating meat, seeds and/or nuts... -
ARCHIVED Question: Can Avoiding Wheat Potentially Make You Intolerant?
YoloGx replied to detox's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree--its likely she has undiagnosed celiac. I doubt its simply gluten intolerance since otherwise she wouldn't react the way she has. The canker sore is a big clue to having celiac by the way, as well as mood swings, bloating etc. And/or candida overgrowth--if the occasional wheat items have more sugar and carbs than she is used to eating. ARCHIVED Black Pepper The Silent Ingredient
YoloGx replied to Cinnamon7778's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dear Cinnamon, I just wanted to let you know that apart from the pepper cross contamination with gluten is/was very possible and very likely. Unless this was in a bakery/store specifically aware and dedicated, I doubt they made the pie in a completely separate area with bowls and pans and chopping block etc. never used for gluten and baked it in a gluten... -
I agree with the above comment. For myself however I also found more relief by going off all grains. I now just eat squash and roots (except for potatoes) for carbs. I really feel so much better! I also have candida overgrowth problems and thus find I have to really limit the fruit I eat and avoid all sugar. You could also be allergic to any number of other...

No matter what, yes you do have to give up sugar--probably not just short term either. Stevia is a good substitute by the way. I have had to give up fruit too--as well for now all grains and beans. Am thus on the cave man diet though I also eat summer and winter squash and yams. I seem to not tolerate potatoes and am allergic to carrots. Of course we are...

I get bloating from eating yeast and other grains as well as sugar or even too much fruit or some other thing I am sensitive to. It can be candida overgrowth or sensitivities. Recently I have gone on a cave man diet and noticed all bloating disappeared. Have added fruit back in but still must be careful as to kind, frequency and amount. Keep a food journal...

I agree with Ravenwood. When CC'd it often takes me a day or two before my symptoms show up. Symptoms can vary as well. It helps to take marshmallow root capsules or powder in water to soothe the intestines. Also helps to take bromelain/papain to allay the inflammatory response. ditto with enterically coated acidophilus. Dandelion or milk thistle caps...

I understand what you are going through. This stage of mourning will, as others say, pass. It requires new habits and strategies that one wishes one didn't have to make. However it is way better than being ill and weak all the time etc. etc. What still gets me is dealing with other people about this; them thinking I am neurotic when I am just taking care...

I am allergic to all nuts as well as peanuts and sesame so eat sunflower seeds a lot and recently started using sunflower seed butter. They have various kinds. You can order one from Whole Foods that doesn't have any sugar. Most do seem to have sugar in them. The Trader Joe's variet seems to have the most sugar. Most seem to be cross contaminated with other...

Yes to both. My hair looked full and wavy as a small child but then started falling out and was straight by age 7. I was put back on glutenous grains when I was four after failing to thrive *(i.e., I stopped growing)as an infant due to sprue (celiac) almost immediately after being introduced to grains. Through trial and error after losing 1/2 my right...

ARCHIVED Digestion Effecting Mood? Was Cutting Out Grains A Proper Choice?
YoloGx replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have similar effects eating grains of whatever type. It affects my digestion, skin, clarity of mind and moods. On the paleo diet I do also eat winter and summer squash and roots regularly however. It does seem to be more than adequate for me so I don't feel like I am starved. I don't eat potatoes or carrots since I seem to be allergic to both. I do... -
ARCHIVED Could Celiac Impare Your Ability To Absorb Medication?
YoloGx replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Very often medications have gluten in them--if not obvious it might be trace gluten. You need to check your meds out. hard to do when you are ill of course. There is a list I think on this celiac.com site... Also, I would avoid all alcohol. Most of it is grain based. I have found even alcohol that is supposed to be safe often isn't for me. For me it needs...
