  1. A quick drive by, getting ready for a two week trip, so this has been a "short" week home. Yes, the Pfizer Zithromax is supposed to be gluten-free, and the Beijing office called to confirm for me. I haven't been terribly strict on the meds so far, because it is hard for me to confirm ingredients from out here. But as far as I know I am not taking soy...
  2. Connie, glad you are asking your question. I think that you have seen some improvement is a good confirmation. Some people don't see any improvement for months. The weight issue seems to be individual, from my impression here. I started to lose weight after about 4 months or so, even eating starches which is unheard of for me. It has plateaued again...
  3. It's my understanding that for many people the longer they are gluten-free the more sensitive they get. Perhaps that box had more CC than others???
  4. According to this, you were only tested for the genes, you were not tested for gluten sensitivity. You don't have the most common celiac or gluten sensitivity genes, but there are others on this forum with your gene type. Gene typing only shows whether you have the genetic potential to develop celiac, but nothing more. If you have symptoms that...
  5. I agree, you'll need to be well prepared so that you can be a support for your son as well as an advocate, if they are contemplating something that seems inappropriate. What a tough thing for this cute little guy.
  6. Yep, Pfizer has a brand here, they tell me when I called Beijing that it is GFSF. I'll get it tomorrow. Yes I am taking Theralac, two per day. Yes it could just be the abx, but I am suspicious it might be an ingredient. I should know in just a few days, trying not to get my hopes up too high!! Donna, hooray on the sleep!! I was just noting...
  7. Flash...(I haven't caught up with all of your posts over the last day...) I think I may be on to something!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking at my food and symptom diary, I have been stumped about why I recently had 5-6 days in a row with very normal stool, then back to the same old problems. Today I realized that improvement started the 3rd day or so after I stopped...
  8. Welcome to the board. Just to prepare you, you might feel worse after going gluten-free. That happened to me. Also some get more sensitive to gluten and to other things. Not trying to scare you, just to prepare you since you are not too symptomatic right now. Hang in there, maybe you will find out other things that get better that you were just living...
  9. Rachel that is wonderful news! What a great confirmation of all of your research and hard efforts as well as investments. I need to look into the LED more before this winter.
  10. Hi, it is called DGL, a formulation of licorice. I bought the powder from Beyond a Century, at $5.90 per bottle. It isn't very much because it lasts a long time, you only use a little bit at a time. I also bought tablets in a local health food store in Portland, was more expensive, but I keep them in my purse for travel. Hope that helps.
  11. Have you had the blood tests? You might want to do that before going gluten-free, because otherwise they'll be false negative.
  12. If you have a gluten allergy, it is normal to go through a withdrawal period, you can actually feel worse for awhile. That seems to happen with some celiacs too. Patience and persistence is the key to finding out.
  13. Good plan I think. Just be aware if you have negative tests and do the dietary testing: You have to be very vigilant about the diet and give it plenty of time. You gut heals slowly, some people notice improvement right away, but not everyone. I saw one person on the forum that had no improvement for a year, and then suddenly improved.
  14. If you can handle it, Vitamin C in high doses, plus a magnesium supplement should help keep you regular. I initially had to use very very high doses of both, but have been able to cut back considerably after 6 months Gluten-free Casein-free. Both of these cause loose stool as a side effect. Vitamin C can't hurt you if you take a lot, magnesium...
  15. A probiotic may be very helpful.
  16. First of all, double check to make sure you really are fully gluten free, there are many hidden sources of gluten. Cut out your personal care products with gluten and see if it makes a difference. Watch cross contamination issues. Second it could take longer than a week to know if the milk will make a difference. Third, you may have trouble while...
  17. I second Carla's suggestion for Kaydee as well. While positive is positive on the gluten sensitivity test, the issue could be gluten sensitivity secondary to another issue and not celiac. It could also be celiac. I had high positive enterolab results, and think that I am celiac and I also have lyme disease. The joint and muscle pain responded very...
  18. Yes, just remembering wheat is not the only source of gluten.
  19. Am I wrong here or are you missing the Ttg? Check your tests with the 5 recommended on the Columbia U website. I think you are missing the most accurate and specific test, but am not sure.
  20. Nope, Carla, I can't get to that either. I can't get to ANY blog anywhere. Apparently servers here block anything like that automatically. Sorry Tom, I really don't get at all how Rachel's post was personally directed at you. I sure didn't read it that way. I agree that there is a often posting here that is off topic and more of a gab/chat. ...
  21. Quick drive by for me too...I'll be heading home very late tonight so hope to get more caught up this weekend. I have been lurking and reading most of the posts, but not much time online so not posting. Yes, for me too. My main doc is an MD but sharp on alternative stuff and lyme literate. My allergist once told me, "If it helps one person, it...
  22. I am in a similar situation. Living in China about the same length of time, and celiac diagnosis (probable) last April. Eating out is a real problem. MSG is wheat based here, all soy sauce contains wheat. I have eaten out in a western restaurant, baked potato and plain salad (ask if they will make mine separate with no contact with wheat). I have another...
  23. Just a comment that skin testing is only a guide for food allergies, it is not an absolute, neither are blood or stool tests. Dietary testing is the best way to determine. I'd suggest you eliminate totally for 7-10 days, and if you feel better, then challenge the food. You could also be sensitive to many many foods due to another underlying issue...
  24. Carla, that's so funny. I was reading all the posts yesterday about your picture and was looking at the view of the house. I wondered where your curly hair went! Kassandra, blood stool tests are really easy and they can do it usually in the doctor's office, I think. You might call ahead and talk to the nurse about your concern. Mia, I'm following...
  25. There's a celiac support group in Portland that have a website, and some restaurants posted. PF Changs is close to downtown, and I think the Corbett fish house (almost totally gluten-free restaurant, other than sandwich bread). Call and see if the hotel has a fridge and a microwave you could use. I am from PDX but haven't been back there since going...
