ARCHIVED gluten-free - Too Late For Testing?
ravenwoodglass replied to 3littleblessings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been seeing your regular doctor for the issues he may diagnose based on the resolution of your symptoms. If your blood work for deficiencies was done by your alternative doc make sure you get copies of the results from pre and post gluten free to show your regular doctor. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free - Too Late For Testing?
ravenwoodglass replied to 3littleblessings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since your doctor is sure you have celiac can you get your doctor to give you an official diagnosis in your records? Since it is advised to test all first degree relatives once someone has been diagnosed perhaps that would be enough to get your ped to test the little ones. You may want to call the ped's office and ask to speak to a nurse. Tell the nurse... -
ARCHIVED Friend Potentially Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Alexandra42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Yes you friend does sound like one of us. He should get tested if he can before he starts the diet as if the diet helps and then for some reason he needs an official diagnosis he will need to do a lengthy challenge before testing. Do know that all you can do is give him the knowledge that he should be tested. He has to accept the possibility... -
ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein-Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to divamomma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hydrolyzed wheat protein may be considered gluten free but personally I wouldn't use it. -
ARCHIVED Ugh Dr Is Frustrating!
ravenwoodglass replied to tinab3girls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If that was your anti gliaden IGA that number is quite high and that test would be positive. Even though different labs use different ranges I have never seen one where 145 is in the 'normal' range. If that was your total IGA and not the antigliadin then that would likely be within normal ranges on that. Does the doctors assistant know the difference between... -
You said in your first post you would be getting a doctor soon. I hope you have seen one by now. If you don't have insurance get to a clinic and if you are low income check and see if you are eligible for Medicaid if you are in the US.

ARCHIVED Immuno Suppressants
ravenwoodglass replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is there a way to encounter less CC? What is it that you are constantly in contact with that is getting you? IMHO it is better to get rid of CC than to mess with your immune system. -
ARCHIVED Creepy Crawlies
ravenwoodglass replied to Booghead's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well after reading some of these posts I now know places I don't want to move to. LOL I find most critters fascinating. But I live in an area that doesn't have a whole lot of things that will poison or eat me. I do remember Palmetto bugs really well from when I lived in Florida. I lived in a spilt trailer and if I sprayed they would go next door. When... -
ARCHIVED Have To Take Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I noticed the way you spell celiac. Are you in Europe? IF you are be careful that you are not consuming gluten free items that are made with Codex Wheat Starch. Gluten Ataxia should be ruled out as the symptoms are similiar and those of us that have it can be very sensitive to even trace amounts of gluten. -
ARCHIVED Trace Blood In Urine And Protein
ravenwoodglass replied to Kryptonite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have seen that also. In my case it is because of some kidney damage from being undiagnosed for so long. That may not be the case for you. Do follow up with your doctor about it. -
ARCHIVED Hitial Hernia And Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to bwcalder1977's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have one and it doesn't seem to give me any problems at all. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Advice.
ravenwoodglass replied to concord's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After you are done with testing the other poster mentioned and the endo if you choose to have one, give the diet a good strict try. It sounds like at this point a lot of your issues are neurological so you may have a higher likelyhood of a false negative. -
ARCHIVED Companies Just Don't Get It
ravenwoodglass replied to Celtic Queen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like they need a good proofreader who actually knows something about celiac. -
ARCHIVED Routines With celiac disease
ravenwoodglass replied to racer73u's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first thing you need to do is to get on the diet strictly. You should have your doctor do vitamin and mineral panels so you can supplement any that need to be supplemented. It is not uncommon for us to have thyroid issues so if you have symptoms that may suggest a problem with that also have that checked. Some doctors will want to do another endo... -
I agree that is huge. Keep taking those steps back to a more normal life and with each one it will become easier and easier. You're putting up a good fight and your winning!

Very well put Mushroom. Heaven help the folks (like us) that have ONE thing that affects multiple systems. There used to be doctors that do look at the whole person. Maybe that's why it took a doctor close to 90 to actually finally diagnose me. He went to school before we got parceled out like cuts of meat.

ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill Pizza Crust Mix
ravenwoodglass replied to BabsV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some of us react to gluten free oats. I can't tolerate any BRM products because they process the oats in the same plant. -
ARCHIVED Low Carb
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
3 days is the time it takes me to show a full reaction to gluten. You may be right that gluten may be the issue not carbs in general. -
ARCHIVED Just Trying Gluten-Free Way
ravenwoodglass replied to corky21's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also be aware that going off of long term use of PPIs can cause a rebound effect. It may take a bit of time for that to resolve. When you say you are GL do you mean gluten light rather than gluten free? If we need to be gluten free we have to be gluten free completely for it to help. -
ARCHIVED Kinda Don't Know What To Do
ravenwoodglass replied to Gfresh404's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since you are only doing one class this term is there a class that you are really good at? You could try signing up as a tutor, some colleges will even pay you for it, and you might meet some interesting people that way. My DS met a couple of women that turned into really good friends that way. Never asked if they ever turned into FWB, as a Mom I didn't want... -
ARCHIVED Now I Know That Eating Gluten Messes With My Mood.
ravenwoodglass replied to LabyrinthRunner13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you are feeling so bad right now. You're not alone. I am not a pleasant person to be around either when glutened. For me the mood issue lifts after about 24 hours and I hope it lifts that quickly for you also. Some of the other stuff...well that takes more like 2 to 3 weeks. It is good that you realize that this is gluten related as it can make it... -
ARCHIVED Does Peripheral Neuropathy Get Better
ravenwoodglass replied to newgfcali's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the update. It is a slow process and updates like yours do give folks hope. So glad things are so much better for you. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Resources In Other Languages
ravenwoodglass replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you seen if you could find an online translation site? Something you could put English into and it would translate into his language? -
ARCHIVED False Negative?
ravenwoodglass replied to ChristineWas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You had positive blood tests, your father is celiac. You are celiac. No doubt. I hope you are feeling better soon and you may find your GP gives you the official diagnosis once your symptoms have resolved and your antibody levels have dropped on retesting. Ask for them to be retested at 6 months to a year if your doctor doesn't suggest it himself. Be sure... -
ARCHIVED I'm Really Afraid...
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Had your doctor been seeing you for your gluten related issues? If so those celiac related problems will be in your record. You could try talking to your doctor, let him know (if he/she doesn't know already) how much better you are doing gluten free. Tell the doctor in vivid, spare no details what your reactions are to gluten and you are scared to death to...
