ARCHIVED Itching Scalp
ravenwoodglass replied to lizarch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It did for me. In addition to gluten in foods I also avoid it in topicals. Soy in shampoos will also make me itchy but I don't get the sores just itchy. There are many things wheat can be labeled as in topicals. However Garneir, Giovanni, Suave, Shikai and Dove are companies that will label it clearly. If you have other reasons to suspect gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Egd Biopsy Not Needed?
ravenwoodglass replied to revo2814's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The TTG is not the only celiac test they should have done. Could you ask your GP to do a full celiac panel including the total IGA and DGP? It would also be a good idea to have a full vitamin and mineral panel done as we are often low in some including ferritin and iron. If your doctor refuses to do any more testing then you do have the option of trying the... -

ARCHIVED Antibodies Are Down!
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glad I was able to be helpful. If I could hand you a medal through the computer I would do so. It is hard but you are doing great. Make sure you do something to celebrate. -
ARCHIVED B12 Too High
ravenwoodglass replied to dube's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes you should stop taking it. Then have your doctor recheck your levels periodically. Your body may be processing it from your food again and you may not need to take the sublinguals any longer but if your levels drop to a low level like 500 or so then start the supplements again. -
ARCHIVED Do I Need To Worry About Tocopherols In My Lipstick?
ravenwoodglass replied to JoLynneS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always check also since in addition to gluten I am also allergic and intolerant to soy. -
ARCHIVED Positive Biopsy, Negative Bloodwork?
ravenwoodglass replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glad your sticking with the diet and it is helping. He also didn't order a full celiac panel so you might have been positive on the tests he didn't order although I certainly would not advise you to go back on gluten for a couple of months to get them done. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency
ravenwoodglass replied to dube's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never had mine tested as I don't have insurance but I do know I feel a world of difference taking supplements. I take a 5000 once a week and one that has 1000IU and K-2 daily. There have been quite a few on the board with low levels on checking so hopefully they will see this and post their experiences. -
ARCHIVED Antibodies Are Down!
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fantastic news! Glad to hear things are going well. -
Are you eating mostly whole unprocessed foods? Are you living with other gluten eaters and if you are have you taken the precautions we need to take to avoid cross contamination? You need your own toaster for gluten free breads, a new strainer for gluten free pastas and your own condiments, butter, nut butters etc. You should also avoid dairy for right now...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to Annaatje's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My DD had hers done as a teen and had no problems with it at all. She had many ear surgerys when she was under 5 and she also had no problems with those. She simply went to sleep and then woke up and came home. Do be aware that there can be false negative with both blood and biopsies so your child needs to be on the diet no matter what the results of the... -
You should get copies of the reports even though she said they were 'normal'. Now is when you try the diet strictly for at least a couple of months as false negatives are pretty common. Your damage could be patchy and in an area that was missed when they did the scope. There could also be changes that some doctors don't recognize as celiac related present...

ARCHIVED So How Does This Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to samiam2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many doctors will retest every six months or so to see if your levels are dropping. Most folks do not get to a point where the number is zero but if you are compliant with the diet you should get to the point where they are under the positive level. -
I checked 'I do not have' for the present time. Before I was diagnosed I would have checked 'severe'. I saw most of my allergies resolve after I went gluten free. My allergist had checked for 99 and I was positive for everything except beech trees. He said that my system was in 'hyperdrive' due to the celiac. Within less than a year all my allergies resolved...

ARCHIVED More Questions And More Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First do not go off a regular gluten diet until all testing is done. Celiac can have negative effects on the gallbladder so don't be in a rush to have it removed as the issues may clear up on the diet. If you can find a good derm who is knowledgeable about DH you may want to have them do a biopsy to see if the rash is DH. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Smirnoff Ice Rasberry Burst Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No it's not safe. Anything with malt is out for us. Hope you don't have to severe of a reaction. -
ARCHIVED Your Opinion On If This Is Safe Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to 11475's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't touch it. I tried a product with wheat and barley grass once and had a severe enough reaction that I would never dream of trying them again. -

ARCHIVED Low Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to lizarch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives on testing are not uncommon. Your iron and ferritin levels are quite low which is common for us. While your B12 level is in range your folate levels are quite high which can cause the B12 levels to test higher than they really are. If you have a lot of symptoms that suggest celiac do give the diet a good strict try after you have finished... -
ARCHIVED Mouthwash Has Gluten In It
ravenwoodglass replied to iamsarar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I use mouthwash I use one that is alcohol free. I think it is a scope but not sure as I don't use it often. You could try soaking it in Efferdent and rinse well before use. I use that for my partial. -
ARCHIVED Why Can't She Have It In Moderation?
ravenwoodglass replied to JustForJen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry that has happened. Did you talk to her before you filed the paperwork? Celiac can make us a bit nutty at times and effect moods very strongly in some of us. Maybe she needed some time to absorb everything. I don't know if something else may have been going on for a while but you might want to withdraw the paperwork and do some talking even if... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Possible To Cure Yourself With Diet?
ravenwoodglass replied to Terri O's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As far as celiac is concerned this is total bunk. The person is trying to sell their 'classes' and sounds like they really know nothing about celiac. There are some people who will heal after a while on the diet and then have it take some time for symptoms to come back, the reason they used to think kids outgrew celiac, but we now know that is not the case... -
ARCHIVED Think I Just Got Glutened
ravenwoodglass replied to ndw3363's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do your new supplements have wheat or barley grass? That would do it. It helps if you keep a food and symptom diary as sometimes our reactions are delayed. I am sorry you are feeling so lousy and hope it is over with soon. -
ARCHIVED I Dont Know What To Do
ravenwoodglass replied to concerned sis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please try not to worry. Having celiac is not a death sentence it is the chance for her to live a very long and healthy life. If she does have celiac or gluten intolerance she will need to avoid eating wheat, rye, barley and many times oats for the rest of her life and yes it does take some time to get used to it but she will be fine. Both blood tests and...
