ARCHIVED Dq2/other Low Risk Gene -- Help With Prometheus Lab Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And Ravenwoodglass will continue to do so. Please don't take it personally. I don't want what happened to me and my family to happen to anyone else. Unfortunatly not all doctors are up on the other genes that can be associated. After what happened with my daughter at one of the most well respected hospitals in the country I do feel the need. Hopefully someday... -

ARCHIVED Still Have Active Coeliac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to Mack the Knife's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Xanax is similiar to Valium and the name brand is not gluten free. It is an antianxiety med. I take the generic form, alprazolam, made by sandoz. It is addictive and a controlled substance. Your doctor can prescribe it if there is a need. Be aware that with long term use it can be hard to get off of and you should not stop it cold if you have been on it awhile... -

ARCHIVED Dq2/other Low Risk Gene -- Help With Prometheus Lab Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is possible to develop celiac with a large number of different genes. To rely on gene testing to tell you whether or not you can eat gluten is IMHO as big mistake as relying on the blood and biopsy for definate diagnosis or exclusion. My doctors relying on the blood work cost me many years, a great deal of pain and permanent damage. Doctors relying on... -

ARCHIVED Dq2/other Low Risk Gene -- Help With Prometheus Lab Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please please as Jestgar said do not get hung up on the genes. There is much that is not known about celiac and the most important thing is how well you have responded to the diet not what genes you have. I would hate to see you give up the diet that is working well for you based on a science that is far from completely conclusive. I had that happen in my... -

ARCHIVED Dq2/other Low Risk Gene -- Help With Prometheus Lab Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you can get a hard copy of the results and post them here someone will be able to answer your question. Please note that having or not having the most common celiac related genes is not diagnostic. Have you gotten relief from the gluten free diet and are you following it strictly. If the answers to both questions are yes then you really do already have... -

ARCHIVED Tostitos Baked Scoops- Anyone Had Trouble With These?
ravenwoodglass replied to Not2sure's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy doesn't contain gluten. The issue with soy is that some of us are intolerant to that also not that it contains gluten. -

ARCHIVED Prediagnosis, Gi Appt Next Week
ravenwoodglass replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is just my opinion but I think you are going about this backwards. IMHO you should try the diet first not last. For one thing gluten can increase stress levels all by itself through it's action on the brain. On the diet you may find your tolerance for stress increases and not need the meds. In addition from this "Yeah... the librax wasn't helping... -

				ARCHIVED Confused And Frustrated
ravenwoodglass replied to kaitlyn77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While your test results are negative please do keep in mind that the false negative rate is high, according to the NIH at least 20% of us have false negatives. Do be sure to give the diet a good strict try even with the negative results. -

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Challenge Worth It To Get Diagnosis For School?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chakra2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The only problem with doing the gene tests is that if he happens to have one of the celiac related genes other than DQ2 or DQ8 you most likely be told that he is not celiac. We had that happen to my DD after she was positive with both blood and biopsy. As a college student she was overjoyed to go back to gluten and now considers all her symptoms to be stress... -

				ARCHIVED Danactive Probiotic Yogurt Drink
ravenwoodglass replied to Midwest's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Exactly and there is also no requirement to label if an item is make with gluten free ingredients but has a risk of cross contamination in the plant. Even if wheat is used in other products. -

ARCHIVED Tostitos Baked Scoops- Anyone Had Trouble With These?
ravenwoodglass replied to Not2sure's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That could be a possibility for the original poster. I do react to soy but the reaction is distinctly different from my reaction to gluten. I do react to CC on shared lines, not all do. Those that don't are lucky and I am a bit envious of them but my gluten reactions are very distinct and have a pattern that is obvious to me. I did for quite a while early... -

ARCHIVED New gluten-free Beer Now Available In U.s.
ravenwoodglass replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the warning. I'll be noting the name of this product so I can be sure to avoid it. I am not someone who considers stuff that has 'the gluten processed out' to be safe. It may be fine for others but the 'gluten processed out' products generally make me ill. Stuff prepared on shared lines that CC us sensitive folks would also test below the allowed... -

ARCHIVED Blood Test For Celiac Came Back Normal-Or Did It?
ravenwoodglass replied to Not2sure's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't say that you are for sure celiac or not. If you are planning on having the endoscopy then do keep eating gluten. If you are not then go ahead and drop both the dairy and the gluten for a couple of months and then you could add them back in one at a time for a couple of weeks and see if you react. Being gluten free will not effect the results of testing... -

				ARCHIVED Danactive Probiotic Yogurt Drink
ravenwoodglass replied to Midwest's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the link it will be helpful and I will be bookmarking it. It is true that wheat has to be disclosed but barley can be added as a 'flavoring' and not be disclosed. Oats and rye also do not have to be disclosed but they are rarely an issue as they are not used as a flavoring like barley is. Hopefully The regulations that allow other gluten ingredients... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Shampoos & Skincare
ravenwoodglass replied to vbecton's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If gluten is entering the bloodstream IMHO yes that could cause the antibody reaction to occur. Whether it is enough to cause a gut reaction I don't know but for those of us who have antibody reactions in organs other than just the gut it could IMHO be a problem. -

				ARCHIVED DNA Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to Aniya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The DNA test is not a diagnosis. For one thing many carry the genes and not all will have celiac. In addition gene testing is a relatively new science and many companies only test for 2 out of the 9 known celiac associated genes. IMHO you would be better off getting a celiac panel done through your doctor. If you have been seeing one for these issues they... -

				ARCHIVED Setback From Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to labrisbin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may be able to eat out on occasion but perhaps you might want to wait until you have healed fully. Then pick a place that has an actual gluten free menu as they are more likely to be aware of CC issues. It is getting easier for us as more and more people are getting diagnosed and places are getting more aware of what they need to do to feed us safely... -

ARCHIVED Tostitos Baked Scoops- Anyone Had Trouble With These?
ravenwoodglass replied to Not2sure's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They definately don't have dedicated facilities except for the Lay's Stax. I am very sensitve to CC and some times I will be able to eat their gluten-free by ingredients items and other times they will make me sick. I avoid all but the plain potato chips now as for me they are not worth the risk. -

ARCHIVED Celiac & Osteoporsis -Men Too?
ravenwoodglass replied to ivegotitalso's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you get him to at least get screened for celiac and then try the diet after testing? He may find that gluten free his arthritis goes into remission. No promises but mine did. -

ARCHIVED Blood In Urine Due To Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to Wendy813's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have. In my case it is due to kidney damage and becomes more pronounced when I get accidentally glutened or soyed. Do make sure that you investigate this throughly. No one wants to do a cystoscopy but if they want to do it and the diet hasn't lessened or relieved the bleeding get one done. The doctor can give you something to relax you about the procedure... -

ARCHIVED Ran Into A Non-Gentleman Redneck From Hell
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Poor guy he was most likely hoping for the only meal he would have that day. No one should have to look through garbage for some food when so many of our dollars go to support the hungry in other countries. -

				ARCHIVED Confused About This Product
ravenwoodglass replied to CVRupp's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From what I understand they are not made in a dedicated facility. My box says nothing about the facility being a dedicated one and usually if a company goes to the trouble of having a dedicated facility they tell us.
