ARCHIVED Explanation That Comforted Me.
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for posting this. It will be helpful to many I am sure. One thing to keep in mind is that we need to be really strict, especially at first to stop the withdrawl and keep it from reoccuring. -
ARCHIVED Getting Fed Up And Tired Of It.
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are having true allergy reactions it might be helpful. However celiac is not an allergy it is autoimmune reaction/ intolerance there is a big difference between the two. -
ARCHIVED Contadina Pizza Sauce?
ravenwoodglass replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yes but if you have had it for a long time call the company with the can in your hand, so they can get the UPC code, to be on the safe side. The reason I say this is because companies do change ingredients and I don't know what you mean by a long time. Years, months? -
ARCHIVED Wegman's Gluten-Free Labeling
ravenwoodglass replied to danaf617's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for 8 years. I have not even once been glutened by any Wegmans product. They will not even label items with distilled gluten grain vinegars as gluten free (unlike other companies), the reason why not all their pickles carry the label. I once called them when I noticed that the large package of cashews had the gluten-free label but... -
ARCHIVED Getting Fed Up And Tired Of It.
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It can take some time for the reaction to pass. Since you are early into the diet it might be a good idea to aviod dairy and soy for a bit until you are healed fully then add them in one at a time and check for a reaction. The time for the reaction to resolve can vary from a few days to a month. Unfortuanately I fall into the month catagory. I get an upset... -
For the most part yes. It take a while though. I did have to be really careful of CC and also need to avoid it in distilled products. I found sublingual B12 to be helpful.

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed...
ravenwoodglass replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome. I agree your doctor is a 'keeper'. Traveling can be tricky so ask any questions you need to. I will be traveling in the fall to my DD wedding and we are getting me a room with a kitchenette. That way for the most part I can bring my own food. Ask any questions you need to. I hope you heal quickly. -
We had a four in four also. Celiac is so much more common than doctors have previously thought. It isn't inherited the way most 'diseases' are. Most diseases have a 1 in 4 chance of inheritance. I do so wish I still had the link that explained why. If memory serves it is because it is a haplogroup (sp) rather than a defect. So it doesn't follow the same...

ARCHIVED Ttg Iga, Not Positive, But Increased In A Year And A Half
ravenwoodglass replied to melblondin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have a wise doctor. Now to your questions. 1 No the TTG IGA would not increase over time without a reason. 2. Yes the total IGA can be tested at any time. It is not a 'celiac' test. It is a measure of the total IGA. If that is low then then it would throw off the IGA testing for celiac causeing the IGA result to be falsely low. Someone else... -
ARCHIVED Help Need With Understanding Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Ellymay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. You sure can have celiac and still have negative blood tests as my sig clearly shows. In addition you can not rely on the two genes that are typically the only ones they consider to be celiac associated, there are actually 9 but most doctors in the US don't know this. Do not rely on the gene testing for diagnosis, rely on your response to the diet. You... -
ARCHIVED Milky Way Candy Bar
ravenwoodglass replied to M&M LOVER's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Lost My Temper
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You definately should have gone immediately to the manager. What if you had been an elderly woman with osteoporosis! There was no excuse for his not stopping and at least apologizing. He deserved all you gave him and then some!!!!! -

ARCHIVED Waiting

ARCHIVED Reactions Are Changing
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That I really don't know. I think it would depend on the person since so many times our reactions differ so widely. In addition sometimes we have symptoms that we don't realize are due to gluten, depression and elevated liver enzymes being an example. -
ARCHIVED How Cigarette Smoke Helps Celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to Candy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Please, please, please don't start smoking or use a patch etc. The addiction is so not worth it. Even if it seems to delay the gut symptoms other systems can be effected. I had DH and ataxia since childhood and started smoking at age 11, perhaps it did delay the GI symptoms but for me that was not a good thing. The damage done to my brain and joints was severe... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Results
ravenwoodglass replied to bluebonnet's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had forgotten that you were on a challenge before the test. It is likely the issues found were a result of your challenge. Hopefully they will resolve now that you are back on the diet. I also have a hiatial hernia but it does not seem to effect me at all gluten free. I do hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Please Help Three Kids And A Mom With Varied Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to Hope Full One's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You do sound like you could be a family of celiacs. Have you had the family screened? Please do so before you go off gluten. The 11 year old really tugged my heart strings, he sounds so much like me at that age. The only difference is I didn't just have thoughts of suicide, I did it and was brought back on arrival at the hospital. They didn't know how long... -

ARCHIVED One Year Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It looks to me like you are doing good on keeping gluten free. I believe the IGA serum is your total IGA which is in normal ranges, if that was the number you were questioning. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to polkflguy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it certainly could be. What you did was a gluten challenge. You dropped gluten and felt better then ate gluten and saw your symptoms return. You do need to be on a full gluten diet for testing. So if you want a doctor to confirm what your body has already told you get back on gluten. You should also encourage your family members to get tested. The rash... -
ARCHIVED Waiting
ravenwoodglass replied to missladyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your body will give you the answer. I know how frustrated you are, been there and stayed for years because of false negatives. Hopefully the diet will help, if only someone, or some doctor along the way had told me to try the diet despite my negative blood work my life and my childrens would have been so different. By the way celiac is not an allergy. An... -
ARCHIVED King Arthur Flour- gluten-free Products
ravenwoodglass replied to deesmith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks for posting this, this company seems to be really knowledgeable about gluten and CC. I am impressed that they even tell people not to bake gluten-free items within 24 hours of using gluten flours. I hope their flours become available in my local stores soon.
