  1. Are you getting ill frequently or have blood results that indicate you are still getting gluten somewhere? If not I think Bartfull gave good advice. If you are having problems then do talk to your vet. They are quite familiar, in many cases, with animals who have to be grain free so the vet may have an option that will work for you.
  2. If you haven't had celiac testing it would be a good idea to go back on gluten for a bit and then get a complete celiac panel done. Food poisoning or a virus would have also caused that type of issue and resolve on their own with in a couple days. It could be entirely a coincedence that it cleared up after you went gluten free for just a day.
  3. Welcome to the board. If you are celiac also make sure that you are not getting cross contaminated. Check out the Newbie 101 thread to make sure you are doing all you need to keep yourself safe. For folks with celiac staying safe involves much more than just cutting gluten out of your diet unfortunately you also need to be concerned with how food is prepared...
  4. Any doctor can order a complete celiac panel for you. Make sure it includes the total IGA as if that is low it causes a false negative in the IGA celiac testing. You have already had the scope and were very lucky that it showed up positive as they only took one biopsy. So ask your regular doctor to do the blood test for you. Do not go gluten free until the...
  5. While this could be just a side effect of the med I agree with laura. You should call your doctor's office or stop at your local urgent care if your doctor isn't available.
  6. As Squirmy said I was also over 40 years before I was diagnosed. Like your daughter I was covered in DH lesions as a child and it was horrible. the doctors told my Mom that I had poison ivy in my bloodstream. Yea right. Be careful of Dapsone and if the doctor does prescribe it make sure they have done liver panels before and at least once a month during...
  7. So good to hear that she is finally able to see a derm. I hope the appointment gets you some good results. Keeping my fingers crossed on that. I also had severe DH like Squirmy and I did have both DH lesions and hives at times. The hives were horribly itchy but they were larger than the DH lesions and didn't get the blisters. They also resolved more quickly...
  8. Those tests can be ordered by any doctor not just by a GI as celiac is an autoimmune disorder not strictly a gastrointestinal one the follow up tests, other than an endo if you choose to have one, can be done by any doctor you see.
  9. Did your test results also go to your GP? If you are very ill you might want to see if you can go in and talk to the GP. There really isn't much doubt you are celiac with those test results and you could ask your GP if he/she will diagnose you based on those results. The main follow up you need is testing for your vitamin and mineral levels and a complete...
  10. I am about as cautous as they come and I would simply rinse the lettuce really well. If you think about it we have no way of knowing what is growing in fields next to the produce we buy in a store. I wash every produce I buy even stuff that I don't eat the skins of like bananas not just for gluten concerns but because I don't know who handled it before me...
  11. You might also consider seeing a chiropracter.. Since it mainly comes on at night and while you are sleeping it could be something simple like a misalignment pressing on some nerves.
  12. I prefer everything to be gluten free. I have found that most products are clearly labeled. I use Maybelline Great Lash, I sometimes rub my eyes so prefer all makeup is gluten free including mascara. The Physicians Secret line has a lot of gluten free foundations, blushes etc. Of course there are others that are good and safe also but I don't wear much makeup...
  13. This doctor is working for you demand a complete celiac panel and that the doctor take at least 5 or 6 biopsies. If the doctor refuses fire him and find another GI doctor.
  14. I didn't think I would ever get another dog when I lost my Pooh Bear. Then I found a little Dashound would severe allergies and lost my heart to her.She is a pain in the butt as I have to cook for her even on nights when I have no energy to cook for me but I am so happy to have her in my life. Sometimes they find you too. Shortly after I lost the mother...
  15. Would she be able to see an allergist? If she can then when you call to make an appointment do ask if they will assist with elimination diets as not all will. I would suggest removing the tea, aloe juice and licorice for a bit. Keep her on the 4 foods you have her on until she has been feeling better for 2 weeks. Then add in one food at a time in pure form...
  16. Maybe you could find time to voluteer to hold and pet some of the kitties at the shelter if you have time. You obviously were a great pet parent and your kitty was so lucky to have you to love her. It could help heal your pain a bit to spread some of that love around to the kitties there while they wait for their forever homes. Some shelters also need foster...
  17. Are you eating mostly whole foods that you are cooking yourself? Is the popcorn kernals that you pop or one of the packaged ones you put in the microwave? If you are newly gluten free it can take some time to heal and without knowing what you are eating and how it is prepared it is hard to say if you have been glutened or if you may have picked up a virus...
  18. Not much I can say but (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))).
  19. Do have a talk with your doctor about this concern. You'll need to know what the premedicating is and whether it is for allergies to iodine or whether it is a different form of contrast without iodine. Celiac isn't an allergy so don't know if that protocol would help. Years ago my doctor scheduled my CT specifically without the iodine because of my DH but...
  20. Be sure that you do the switch in foods gradually for your fussy cat. Mix 3/4 gluten food with 1/4 of the gluten free for a few days then slowly decrease the amount of the gluten food and increase the gluten-free kind. That may help the fussy eater. One of my kitties had a hard time with the switch also and it can be frustrating. She wouldn't eat the more...
  21. Welcome to the board,. Make sure tht the doctor will take at least 5 or 6 biopsies and the biopsies need to be looked at un a lab and can be positive even if the doctor doesn't see anything visually. That said with your blood test results you can be pretty certain that you have celiac. Your results were very high. Be sure to read the newbie thread as it...
  22. I agree with previous poster. I suffered with DH for over 40 years and it is miserable. If you do have a dermatologist test for it by biopsy do make sure they are doing it correctly and are actually looking for DH. They need to biopsy next to an active lesion. While it sounds odd I also got some relief from swimming in the ocean. I don't know if the salt...
  23. So the doctor wants to have her stay on gluten for another six months to see if your child will then be damaged enough that the results are higher so then the doc can do a scope. Has the doc suggested getting her gluten free and then retesting in six months to see if the results go down? Since you have one child diagnosed the chances of others in the family...
  24. Don't know if it is the case for you but soy gives me the symptoms you mention. If you consume products with soy then maybe try dropping it for a bit and seeing if that helps. Hope you find the cause for your issues and they resolve soon.
  25. Please watch for flare-ups with the oat baths. I had severe DH and while it did seem to help right when I took them I think it aggravated later. That might not be the case for her though. If you can use gluten free oats for the soaks that might be okay for her. I hope you get some answers soon and she gets some relief.
