  1. Have you seen an ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor? If not perhaps make an appointment with one. You also might consider seeing an allergist in case this is an environmental allergy unrelated to food. It sounds like it is making you miserable so I hope they find the cause soon.
  2. Could you tell us what celiac tests he did and what the results are? Sometimes doctors don't do a full panel and that can be a problem for us. Some folks will only be positive on one test and some doctors don't run the total IGA with the panel. Being IGA deficient can cause a false negative on testing.
  3. " Is it possible that the Biopsy was a false negative?" Yes it is possible. There are many reasons for a false negative on the biopsy including but not limited to the fact that celiac damage can be patchy and it is possible for damaged spots to be missed and also some doctors will call a biopsy negative if the villi are not totally destroyed.
  4. So glad she doesn't have to drink that awful drink. Sounds like the hardest part of her prep may be the liquid diet for 2 days before. That would have been a tough one for my kids at that age. Hope all goes well.
  5. Done but I found #7 to be a bit confusing because it didn't specify pre or post diagnosis. I could have checked almost every box and did end up checking 5 rather than 1-3. Thanks for posting.
  6. Ask your doctor to be on the safe side. Mine didn't want me supplementing for a week or two before the levels were tested.
  7. There will be little to no 'bathroom breaks' in most cases. Do bring some books or a handheld game of some sort that she can take to the bathroom with her as she will be in there for most of the evening after the clean out begins. If your room has a TV that she can see from the bathroom that might help. As someone who works at a hotel do ask staff for...
  8. If he eats white bread you could even stick it in an empty wrapper from a loaf he has already eaten. Just don't tell him you did it.
  9. If you don't want to eat fruit with a meal you could have it as a mid-morning or afternoon snack.
  10. So sorry about the loss of your fur friend. Your new little guy is adorable and while I know he will never take the place of the one you lost I hope he gives you many years of smiles and doggy kisses.
  11. Welcome to the board Eric. I agree that it would be a good idea for you to avoid those processed to be gluten free until you are well healed. You will also, unfortunately, most likely have had a couple accidental glutenings so you will know better by then if you are reacting to them. Be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section...
  12. What were you eating out of town? Were you able to bring your own pans, condiments, foods etc. or did you eat at another persons home or in restaurants? Since both times you were out of town I would think that you got glutened at some point while traveling. Getting the hang of everything we need to do to keep us safe can take some time. For example I never...
  13. How long have you been gluten free? Have you eliminated gluten ingredients from hair care products? It takes a while for the antibodies to leave the skin. I imagine it would take a while to heal even with the dapsone. I don't know for sure as I wouldn't let them give me a script for it. Hopefully someone who has taken it will reply with a time frame for you...
  14. It may be. Let your doctor know if symptoms get too severe but if you are going to challenge for testing you don't want to end up with a false negative because you didn't get enough gluten.
  15. You can call ahead or you can try looking places up on the internet. Since it is a group thing you could look up places with an internet search and then make some suggestions. If it turns out that the place they choose is one you don't trust you could eat something safe before you go or bring something with you. Congrats on the anniversary and I hope you...
  16. 1.Wheat can not be used as a binder for food without it being disclosed. It is against FDA regs. Barley or rye would not be used as binders and will be disclosed on the labels. Oats, if tolerated have to be gluten free oats or they are not safe due to high CC risk. 2. PLEASE do not just eat the cheesecake off the the crust or any non gluten item that...
  17. I agree you should see your doctor about this issue. Your doctor can do stool testing to check for parasites and prescribe something if needed. What makes you think your have parasites? The over the counter parasite cleanses are not only a waste of money they also can be quite dangerous for folks with a compromised digestive system.
  18. Welcome to the board. It isn't going to hurt to get celiac testing done as your symptoms could be celiac related. Don't go gluten free until celiac testing is done. I have neurological impact from celiac and at times my eyelids would droop far enough to impede my vision. This did resolve when I was finally diagnosed but does return to a lesser degree on...
  19. You should head to your doctor, dentist or urgent care and get it looked at. Don't know if it could be gluten related or not but haven't seen any posts about anything like it.
  20. Snicking (great screen name) it is hard when you can't afford insurance. I've been in the same boat myself now for years in large part due to parent loans that I got stuck with. Do find out which hospitals near you have a generous 'indigent' policy just in case you should have an emergency. You may also qualify for medicaid in the event of an emergency so...
  21. No it would not be a good idea for the reasons Laura gave you. Just eat a good gluten-free diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, meats etc. If your digestive system was badly compromised it is a good idea to cook those fruits and veggies for a while as they would be easier to digest that way. Hope you feel better soon.
  22. Welcome to the board. I do understand not being able to see a doctor right now. It is a very expensive proposition if you don't have insurance or even if you do but have high copays. If you are low income you could check with your local hospital and see if they have a sliding fee scale. Many will cover tests done at a low copay. But they don't usually cover...
  23. Welcome to the board. There is no doubt that she is celiac with so many positive results. Do not take her gluten free until after she sees the GI doctor. The doctor may want to do an endoscopy and she needs to be on gluten for the results of that to be valid. Even then sometimes damage can be missed. After all celiac related testing is done then she will...
  24. Don't be too hard on yourself. It happens. Even with some of us real old timers. Just last week I went to Wendy's and ordered a delicious salad that the menu said was gluten free. Didn't read the fine print or notice the asterisks. Sure should have since the nuts were not gluten free and the chicken though grilled was cut on the same board as the breaded...
  25. I hope things go as smoothly as possible during your treatment. Have your doctor make sure he notes on your chart that you are gluten free. The pharmacist can check your meds for gluten and you might want to have a talk with the pharmacy before the day you go in for treatment. It also might be a good idea to check with their Nutritional Services dept. ask...
