ARCHIVED Acid Reflux Contuinues... Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you eating anything that has soy in any form? I developed problems like yours after a time gluten free and finally figured out soy was an issue. Check and see if the tuna has soy in it. Most of them do in the broth. When I get soyed I find it helpful to take Pepto Bismal liquid rather than an acid reducer. You might want to give that a try if there isn... -

ARCHIVED I Haven't Forgotten You
ravenwoodglass replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Nice to hear you are feeling better and able to get out and enjoy some gardening. Good to hear the allergy treatments are helping. There is something about working in the garden that can be so theraputic. I wish I had more time to do so but work is physically demanding and leaves me too tired at the end of the day to do much other than eat and get ready... -
ARCHIVED No Printed gluten-free Menu At Red Robin
ravenwoodglass replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I went to Red Robin today and had the first burger with fries that I haven't had to cook myself since I was diagnosed. I did think it a bit pricey but the burger was cooked the way I like it and even though well done was still nice and juicey. They did bring me the Ipad thing and since I have never used one of those the waiter had to show me how to use it... -
ARCHIVED Sensitivity
ravenwoodglass replied to sunblazed's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You were no longer a silent celiac when you went for testing. Chances are good, IMHO, that if you get glutened those symptoms will return. Do be aware that symptoms can be delayed and it isn't always the last thing we ate that makes us ill. It could be something from as long as a few days before. Try and stay as safe as you can on your trip and perhaps... -

Glad to hear you are doing a bit better. I get the bleeding when glutened also and it is scarey. -
ARCHIVED Ellie's Gluten Free Bakery Great Place!
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Since this post got moved to Restaurants it should be noted that this is NOT a restaurant it is a bakery. It is not a eat in establishment, no tables or chairs even. Please don't go expecting to be able to do more than stand at the counter to sample a cookie or muffin you purchase before buying a quantity of them. -
ARCHIVED Ellie's Gluten Free Bakery Great Place!
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I will be in Rochester Monday so maybe we will check them out. Haven't had a cream puff in years. Ellies is in Fairport right outside Rochester near Route 31 on Turk Hill Road. They are right by the canal with a park on the other side that we plan to check out next time we go there. -
ARCHIVED Ellie's Gluten Free Bakery Great Place!
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Took a short road trip yesterday with a really good freind to a gluten free bakery in Upstate NY. While a bit hard to find it was well worth the trip. We tried almost everything they had and it was all so good. They only do gluten free and are also soy free. They have pizza, pies, cakes, cupcakes, muffins (the banana choc chip is to die for), breads (sandwich... -
ARCHIVED Will Going Temporarily Back On Gluten "ruin" All Progress?
ravenwoodglass replied to cbdh19's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you been tested for celiac? How gluten free are you? Are you avoiding cross contamination and eating from gluten free menus when you eat out or are you just ordering stuff that seems to be gluten free by description? If you are consuming beer a couple times a week you are not gluten free. If you are not avoiding cross contamination you are likely getting... -
ARCHIVED My Attempt With A Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to FoxyRoxy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Call your GI doctor as soon as you can. Tell them what has happened since you started the challenge. The doctor may be able to prescribe some meds that might make symptoms more tolerable or may tell you to stop the challenge. When you call do ask to speak with a nurse or ask if the doctor can call you back. I'm sorry you are reacting so badly to the challenge... -
ARCHIVED 2 Kiddos With Celiac... Gluten While Pregnant
ravenwoodglass replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry this reply is so late. As long as you are getting good nutrition there is no problem with you being gluten free while pregnant. If you do need the diet for medical reasons then eating gluten could definately cause issues so IMHO it is better being safe than sorry. -
ARCHIVED Very Much A Newbie Here
ravenwoodglass replied to SeeBee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. I did find my symptoms to be worse at that time of month and they also came and went for years before the serious issues became a daily occurance. Do not go gluten free until after all celiac related testing has been finished as that will cause a false negative on testing. With the symptoms coming on after a meal do make sure your... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Ryan7194's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for the update. It does seem you found yourself a really good GI doctor. Now you can get to the business of healing. Do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section and ask any questions you need and we will try to help in any way we can. I hope you heal quickly. -
ARCHIVED Fear Of Unknown, Other Ai
ravenwoodglass replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mentioned you are in another country. Do you know what their labeling regulations are in regards to allergens and gluten? Some countries consider Codex wheat starch to be gluten free could that be in some of the processed products you are consuming? Many of us can't tolerate it even though technically it is gluten free. Could gluten be sneaking in somewhere... -
I also get severe depression and negativity along with an increase in paranoia. The depression is so severe I get suicidal but fortunately that lifts within a day or so and I now know it is the gluten reaction so I can fight off the suicidal ideation. Off gluten I am even tempered, heck you would have to do a lot to even make me slightly angry and even though...

ARCHIVED Construction Clean Up.
ravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Googles when you ask to see the data sheets that the company must have at all times be sure to tell them to look for wheat based ingredients in the products not gluten. Tell them you have an allergy to wheat as if you say gluten you will likely get eye rolls and they may not take you seriously. Good luck with your query. -
ARCHIVED Construction Clean Up.
ravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it is unlikely that anyone in the construction company is going to be able to answer you about gluten in the products they use. The biggest concerns that I have found when doing work is drywall mud and wallpaper paste. There is a data base that will tell you ingredients in many construction materials. I don't remember what it is called though but... -
ARCHIVED Hair Products/leave In Conditioner?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use any personal care products with gluten. I have used Garneir, some Suave, Giovanni (expensive but nice) and recently have tried Tresemme which I really like. -
ARCHIVED What I've Learned Since 2007
ravenwoodglass replied to Mr. Pep'r's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fran many rice pilafs have a browned pasta in with the rice. Rice-a-roni is a rice pilaf. If you see one on a menu do ask what is in it. -
ARCHIVED Problems With Jelly Bellys
ravenwoodglass replied to ThisIsMyUserName's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fran always be sure to read labels. Good and Plenty have wheat as do most licorice. Unfortunately as I am a big black licorice fan. I think if you go to the Jelly Belly web site you can order bags of just one flavor. I get Gimbals jelly beans on a regular basis. They are produced in an allergen free plant. I get a couple Bumble Bean bags every time I find... -
ARCHIVED I Keep Getting Sick And Don't Know Why!
ravenwoodglass replied to mareahf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are your anxiety meds generic? If they are binders can be changed at any time. Check with the company that makes them. Their name should be on the label but it may be in very small print. Also look into anything else that you might have changed when this happened. Pet food, supplements, do you have gluten eaters in your home, if so could they have become...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED New Here - Questioning A Gluten Challange - Here Is My Story...
ravenwoodglass replied to MissyLala's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes Missy the link did work for me. Some of your photos do look like they could be the DH rash. Vince, I also have taken Celebrex but I had Celiac long before I took. I also have arthritis and that was one of the celiac symptoms that was quite pronounced for years before diagnosis. I don't think the Celebrex caused your celiac but any stressor or illness... -
ARCHIVED Albertson's Essential Chips Are Not Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to abenedum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have only been gluten free for a couple of months you most likely haven't healed yet and the chips and salsa combo may have been too much for your system. In addition you may have other intolerances that are becoming more obvious now that gluten has been dropped. It also can take a few days for the antibodies to build up and cause a reaction. As boring... -
ARCHIVED One Year Gluten Free Tomorrow.

I am one of the ones that was able to add dairy back. It is suggested that you first add back low lactose items like hard cheeses, cheddar for example, and yogurt. If all goes well you can try small amounts of other dairy like milk, ice cream and soft cheeses like mozzarella. I was so happy to get dairy back and hope the same happens for you.
