  1. I agree Colleen. I wish my reaction only lasted a day or two.
  2. If you have negative effects from consuming anything you shouldn't eat it. It is not just intestinal upset we need to worry about as celiac is an autoimmune disease. You could try it when you have fully healed but if you have any negative reaction drop it. When someone does try adding in any new food my doctor advised eating it at least once a day for up...
  3. Now you know and can start to heal. Keep in mind that any neuro issues you still have may take more time to heal than the rest so be patient with your body. Make sure your doctor does vitamin and mineral panels so you know what you may need to supplement. The gluten free lifestyle does take some adjustment and we do often go through a bit of a grieving...
  4. The endo is a pretty easy test as far as invasive procedures go. If your doctor is wise enough to still want to rule out celiac IMHO it would be a good idea to have it done along with the other tests that Nicole posted. Hope you get some answers soon. Do give the diet a good strict try after all testing is finished but don't go gluten free or gluten light...
  5. Just saw this posted in Foods section by 'Wintersong' maybe there is something there that can help so you may want to check out her post. "gluten-free Giveaways For Celiac Awareness Month" I haven't checked it out yet so not sure what might be there.
  6. So sorry you are having these problems. I hope your doctor is following up on the liver and spleen enlargement. I wish I could be more helpful but will keep you in my thoughts. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  7. I am looking at that adorable little person in your photo which brings me to my question. Did your increase in symptoms that you mentioned happen after you gave birth? Celiac disease will often come on or symptoms can worsen after you have a stressor like pregnacy and delivery. There can be a fairly high rate of false negatives with celiac testing. This...
  8. I think you may have confused me with the OP. I work as a housekeeper even though I am around crumbs all day with lots of handwashing and gloves it is rare that I get glutened. Thankfully as my reactions are very severe. I do hope the OP can find a way to keep from being glutened so often. She seems to be suffering a great deal. Sometimes we just have to...
  9. Wish I could be more helpful for you. You and I have a lot in common. I hope some other folks come on soon and have some advice for you. Meanwhile ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  10. You do sound like one of us. You mention a wait until the end of June for an endo. The first step is usually a blood test. Get back on gluten a slice or two of bread a day is considered enough. Immodium and an anti-inflammatory will not impact celiac testing. Many will eat the slice or two at night and find that helpful. There is a chance your blood test...
  11. I have never really trusted pills. When I feel I want a probiotic I go with yogurt or a fermented food like saurkraut. Cheaper and much more tasty.
  12. It sounds like you are still getting glutened. You say you travel for your job what are you doing for food when you travel? Can you talk to HR and explain the situation or possibly take sick leave while you get this figured out? If not can your doctors order a celiac panel for you and then get a blood draw done before or after work? That would at least give...
  13. I have DH and have refused to take this medication. It did take much more than a month for it to resolve when I was diagnosed celiac as the antibodies take time to leave the skin. There can also be a rebound effect when the med is stopped. As Karen stated many with DH will have false negative blood tests. There are some pretty serious side effects that can...
  14. Thanks for posting. I needed a laugh first thing this morning.
  15. If you have celiac you HAVE to be strict. You not avoiding CC may very well be why you still have IBS. It is a pain to have to be strict with the diet and avoid things like CC but it is something you have to do to heal. Any amount of gluten will keep those antibodies active and attacking you.
  16. So sorry you are in this situation. Have you gone for help from social serivices? You should qualify for food stamps which would help a great deal. I know from past personal experience how difficult that process can be and how humiliating. Sometimes it is just something we have to do. It is shameful how often many food banks don't even try to accomodate...
  17. You are replying to a thread that is almost a year old. If you needed to eliminate all grains to feel better that is fine. However most celiacs can tolerate non-gluten grains just fine. Rice, quinoa, corn etc are fine for most of us to eat. Would hate to see newbies thinking they need to restrict their diet even further than it is already restricted.
  18. Glad they are finally acknowledging this. After 12 years I have had to accept that the nerve damage I have is not going to go away. I am grateful that much of it has resolved but do so wish that celiac had been diagnosed much earlier. Medicine, as far as celiac goes, has progressed a lot since I was diagnosed so hopefully most that have their nervous system...
  19. It is highly unlikely that ground beef would contain wheat without it being on the label. Fillers like wheat and soy must be listed if they are added to meat as a filler. The sauce might be a possibility. If you have doubts contact the company that makes it. Wheat has to be declared on the label as it is one of the 7 allergins and barley malt would also...
  20. It doesn't matter if the gluten grains are organic or not. I will get just as ill. I do also have an intolerance to soy but my symptoms from soy are very different from my symptoms to gluten and the effects only last a day or two and not the 3 or so weeks that a glutening will cause. Many of us are intolerant to dairy also but in many cases after we heal...
  21. Glad we are being helpful. It wouldn't hurt to urge your friend to get tested for celiac even if she doesn't have any symptoms that she thinks could be celiac symptoms. You never know if she might be a 'silent' celiac and it wouldn't hurt to rule it out.
  22. That sounds like a plan. Do make sure that it is just the celiac panel they will be running. If not talk to your doctor or a nurse at the office to be sure other tests don't need to be fasting tests. Good luck.
  23. Make sure you are well hydrated before the next time. That may help. Surprised they didn't do the draw while you were 'out' from the faint. They don't usually cancel a blood draw because someone isn't well. Sorry you have to go through it again.
  24. It isn't unusual for some of us to have liver impact from undiagnosed celiac. If that is what is causing the elevation in your tests it should resolve after you have been gluten free for a while.
  25. So your doctor is having you go gluten free for 3 months and is then going to blood test again. Is she looking for that antiboy level to have gone down? Hopefully that is the case. If it is the case then the doc should IMHO diagnose you at that point. To send you for a biopsy after you have healed is certainly not going to get you a diagnosis as it will likely...
