  1. Welcome to the board. You never need to apologize for 'foggy brain' spelling, grammar etc.... If you can find understanding for that anywhere you will find it here. Did anything change a month ago? A new supplement, refill on a generic script, did you add a new gluten free item? You could just be getting more sensitive to CC or a different intolerance may...
  2. Did you order that salad from a restaurant or bring it from home? Being woken in the middle of the night with an upset stomach can be a sign that we have been glutened. That said it can take some time to heal and trying to eat only food you prepare yourself can help speed the healing.
  3. You really should get tested before going on the diet. A challenge after a bit of time gluten free can be quite difficult and painful so it is always best to get tested before the diet starts. Any doctor can order the tests for you. While you are waiting on tests and the results do be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section.
  4. So did this ding-bat also insist that all bags of flour be kept out on the loading dock along with any prebaked items like bread, cookies, cakes etc. Does she want a sign posted at the door that says any customer using lotion needs to put on the gloves kept by the entry. Geez. Not only is this woman a bit extreme but any manager that did anything other than...
  5. What you should do now is get him on the diet. Positive blood work trumps negative biopsy especially on one so young. Do follow up with your ped for repeat blood testing after he has been gluten free for a while. Relief of symptoms combined with those positives going down is diagnostic. You ped should give you a celiac diagnosis based on that since you will...
  6. Glad they are able to get the endo over with for you. I hope the prep for the colonoscopy isn't too difficult for you guys. Your doctor works for you. Don't ask for the blood to be drawn while she is out, insist on it. Hope you get some answers soon.
  7. Can you get your ped to at least order a celiac panel for you? That can be ordered by any doctor it doesn't have to be a GI. I had allergy testing done before I was diagnosed and it was pretty useless except to show my immune system was in hyperdrive (doctor's actual term). I showed reactions to 98 out of 99 things tested for with a skin prick test. All...
  8. I wonder if this could be the cause of my tendon issues. I know it is off topic but do you know if those issues could remain for years and then flare up with heavy use of the affected limbs? I had a horrible reaction to Levaquin. It made me hallucinate and basically shut down my pancreas (as near as I could tell). It took a couple months of pancreatic enzymes...
  9. If your rash is a 'gluten rash' itches like crazy and leaves scars then resolves on the diet you have DH. If you have DH you have celiac. DH can have a lot of false negatives with testing for a variety of reasons which may be why your doctors went with the best test. Resolution of the problem gluten free.
  10. I do so miss baklava and spanikopita (sp?) do have some for me but don't tell me how good it was. I hope you do remain at least mostly symptom free. As was stated if you were diagnosed previously then even symptom free you are still celiac. If you were fully healed it may take some time to redamage enough to produce noticable symptoms or positive test...
  11. I use 'Golden Barrel' less than $4 for 16 oz. I get it at a local Amish store. Don't know if it may be available near you.
  12. I got a couple of these a few weeks ago. Had no problems with them and will buy them again as sometimes I am just to tired to cook when I get home from work. At the same time I got a couple Jimmy Dean chicken bowls that were not marked gluten free but had no gluten ingredients. I have eaten the Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls with no problem so figured I would...
  13. You could have gotten a bit of gluten or you could have a virus. Things can be up and down for some until we heal and it isn't always gluten. Some may have other intolerances, dairy being one of the most common. Sometimes we just eat something that is still to hard for our compromised systems to digest yet. A food and symptom diary can be helpful for some...
  14. You will still need to make sure you are compliant with all local regs along with health dept regs and don't forget the state and IRS. In addition to contacting offices about regulations you should also consult a tax person to make sure you are keeping the records you will need to keep. You will also need to file with the IRS quarterly to prevent a big bill...
  15. Is she doing any arts and crafts projects at school? Things like play-doh, white glues, some plaster mixes, some paints etc are not gluten free. Most likely stuff you have already checked but thought I would throw it out there. How is she feeling? Is she showing any signs of feeling glutened? If not could there be an error from the lab? I hope whatever...
  16. I have recently been checking out my local Big Lots store and am amazed at how much gluten-free stuff they are getting in. Bags of Glutino wafer cookies, full size bags, for a dollar. Pastas, crackers, cookies and more. Most are considerably less than at my local grocery store, some not so much like Snyders pretzels are only 20 cents cheaper but still that...
  17. This result :Deamidated Gliadin Abs IgA - result was 31 units (reference range is 0 - 19 with moderate to strong positive defined as > 30 units) and the notes on it for me read "Above High Normal" is specific to celiac. No matter what the results of your biopsy are you are in the right place. Keep your doctor in the loop as to your reactions to the...
  18. Know you have been struggling so this is great news. Hope you get to add back in some favorites soon.
  19. Have him keep eating gluten until you get the celiac panel done. I can appretiate that you have seen a couple seizure free days and are reluctant to start him back on gluten but if the seizures are related to celiac he may have a severe reaction when you add gluten in again if he has been gluten free for very long. Has he had a brain MRI recently? Celiac...
  20. I use the Taste of the Wild for my little dog. She has lots of allergies and it seems it took forever to find a food which didn't produce a reaction. Tractor Supply has recently come out with a line of grain free foods but I haven't looked into them except to note that they are about $4 less a bag than the Taste of the Wild.
  21. Is your son improving on the diet? Did they test your total IGA? If you have your results posting them here could be helpful Have you tried the diet yourself strictly? If you haven't given the diet a trial you should. There are rare celiacs that don't have either of the two most common celiac associated genes. There are non celiac gluten intolerant folks...
  22. It may not apply for you but I didn't get relief from joint pain until I dropped soy protein. I don't often get 'soyed' but when I do the joints flare up still. It's not uncommon for us to have other intolerances and nightshades (potatos, eggplant etc) are another one that can cause joint pain in some folks. Hope you get some relief soon.
  23. You might want to try being gluten free for at least a couple months rather than gluten light. If your rash is DH gluten light will not help as the antibodies will stay active. False negative are quite possible in testing for DH and you can't go by 7 year old negative tests to conclude that you are not celiac. You could consider going back on a regular...
  24. I was a cheeseburger sub freak for as long as I can remember. I just did patty melts (a burger made with bread) since diagnosis until I happened upon Against the Grain French Bread. You get two long loaves and one cut in half is the perfect size for a burger sub. It has the crust and chewiness of a good Italian loaf but usually does seem a bit 'holey' on...
  25. It sounds like you got a receptionist rather than a nurse on the phone. One that was either busy or impatient. The doctor may be clueless but it might also be the person on the phone couldn't be bothered to ask and just found it easier to parrot the doctors words. As long as you are getting gluten you should be fine. Eat a croissant for me please (but don...
