ARCHIVED Patches has leg cramps
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So sorry to hear that your little fur friend is having these issues. Have you had him seen by your vet? He is getting up there age wise and these issues could have a number of causes. You might want to think about also giving him steps or a ramp up to your bed. He may have just landed wrong and strained something or he could be getting arthritic although... -
ARCHIVED Clinique cosmetics
ravenwoodglass replied to AngieJoy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't see anything that would be a problem with the 3 products you listed. If they agree with your skin and you like them you should be safe gluten wise with those. Do check any other products especially lipsticks before using as not all their products are gluten free. -
ARCHIVED I feel like I am drowning.
ravenwoodglass replied to Erin1712's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome. It is hard at first. More than a few of us have broken into tears at the grocery store during the first few days or weeks. Some of us also go through a withdrawl which can contribute to the depression and anxiety about all the changes we have to go through. It will get better. Try to concentrate on all the naturally gluten free food that is... -
ARCHIVED Need Neurology Recommendation SF Bay Area/Peninsula
ravenwoodglass replied to AWC-California's topic in Doctors
Sorry it has been so long with no reply for your query. A neurologist is not likely to be able to help. Many are not even familiar with the neuro effects of celiac. What will help is time and being extremely careful to take all the precautions humanly possible to avoid CC. Have you had your B12 levels checked? It is ideal to have past results to compare... -
ARCHIVED Months Of Pain After Surgery. Can´t Anymore. Please, I Need Help
ravenwoodglass replied to tokyonochikatetsu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They make full spectrum lightbulbs. Perhaps that might help? I don't know if they would help with D production but might be worth a try. Sorry you are still suffering so much and hope you get some relief soon. -
ARCHIVED Horrible stabbing pains at night
ravenwoodglass replied to Zachm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your description describes my gluten reaction perfectly except I am usually toilet bound for 3 to 5 hours. Is there any chance you could be getting gluten CC anywhere? Have you read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section? It could clue you in on ways you may be getting CC. It doesn't sound like you have been gluten free for very long and it... -
ARCHIVED stomach pain when eating anything!
ravenwoodglass replied to mpflynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your friend needs to see a GI ASAP. If money is an issue for more testing most hospitals will work with her for payment or in some circumstances may even cover the cost of testing in part or completely. 30 lbs in a month is a lot and she could have something very serious or even fatal. I hope she can get some help soon. -
ARCHIVED I Can't Help But Wonder About This...
ravenwoodglass replied to spunky's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have DH and I did have to avoid iodine for a while after I went gluten free. I didn't have to worry about naturally occuring iodine in foods I just dropped iodized salt and made sure any supplement didn't contain iodine. (Some may have to be that extreme but I didn't). I also didn't worry about salt added to stuff that was prepared and even potato chips... -
You need protein and carbs. I do hope you are not eating just tuna everyday for a protein source. You don't want tuna more than a couple times a week. Add in some eggs, chicken, beef or pork. If you are not much of a meat eater then go with beans and rice, nuts and nut butters. Add some freshly crushed hemp seeds to your salads. A good source of protein...

Being strictly gluten free will take care of the rash although it will take some time to heal and for the antibodies to leave the skin. Even the tiniest amount of CC will reactivate the rash. If you do choose to use Dapsone please make sure your doctor runs a liver panel first and that the panel is rerun frequently while you are on it as that med is quite...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods Lentils?
ravenwoodglass replied to Maddi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is never a good idea to buy stuff from bins. The chances of cross contamination are very high. I hope you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Muscle Fatigue /stiffness
ravenwoodglass replied to Jimmymtfan19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are very early in the healing process and it is going to take some time to recover. It is quite possible to have a normal CBC on testing and still be celiac. What matters is your postive Celiac panel results. I know it is hard to be patient with your recovery but we really don't have a choice. Do you best to make sure you are doing all you need to prevent... -
ARCHIVED Intro And Neuro Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to HannahZ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Glad to hear you are already starting to feel better. I know folks with DH often have false negative tests and am starting to wonder if maybe folks with ataxia do also. Not something that has been researched at this point though as far as I know. You have some pretty savvy neuros there, congrats on that as mine was clueless and told... -
ARCHIVED Dissappointed-Test Resuslts Negative, But Obvious Symptoms!
ravenwoodglass replied to flightgoddess's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can you get your ped to write a 'script' for the 504 plan that stresses the need for gluten avoidance? I could be wrong but if your doctor specifies that your child needs to be kept safe from CC the school may comply with the demand. You could also try getting a second opinion from a different ped GI. -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog Having Trouble Coping
ravenwoodglass replied to squirmingitch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry you are going through this. Have you been eating those sausages for a while? If you have maybe, hopefully, it isn't oat CC and was the sausages that were causeing the issues. That would make things much easier for you so I am keeping my fingers crossed for you on that one. I use Jones sausages which are labeled gluten free. Don't know if you can... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Prescribed Huge Daily Dose Of Zinc
ravenwoodglass replied to Rhobhan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the previous poster that if a celiac panel hasn't been run it should be. If it is or was run and was positive then there are a few things that you should evaluate. Is there any new med or supplement you may be taking that may not be gluten free? Are you eating any gluten-free oats? Some of us don't tolerate them. How about any of the beers that... -
ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia And Gluten Sensitivity
ravenwoodglass replied to lea01's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you tried stopping the oatmeal? Some of us will react to it. For me it doesn't cause quite the same symptoms that wheat does but it does make me feel tired and just off with some looser movements but not the severe D and cramping. If you really feel a need for a hot cereal maybe try Cream of Buckwheat or something else along those lines. -
ARCHIVED Astonished By Insensitivity
ravenwoodglass replied to nonnarae's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) to you all and anyone who has to put up with stuff like this. People can be such jerks it is hard not to wish celiac on them at some point in their lives. -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Muscle Damage
ravenwoodglass replied to Renaye's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry you are going through this. Are you on any other meds that might have C as a complication? Have you dropped dairy and soy from your diet? It may not be the case for you but for me any soy other than lecithin will bind me up for days. Are you still getting physical therapy? The treatments like bio-feedback training can be helpful for some. Your... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed And Needing Advice
ravenwoodglass replied to Zachm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Do take the previous posters advice and read the newbie thread. It should be very helpful. Being gluten free when you are celiac involves a lot more than just reading labels or ordering a steak and potato at a restaurant. How our food is prepared is very important as even a very small amount of cross contamination will have the effect... -
ARCHIVED Possibility Of Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to zs1994's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since this is still going on an appointment with your doctor would be a good idea. You need to be screened for celiac anyway with a sister that has it and it would also be a good idea for your doctor to test your stool for food poisoning or a bacterial infection. -
ARCHIVED Butter-It Alternative Butter Flavor Ingredients
ravenwoodglass replied to GF Squared's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Next time you are at the station ask to see the container it which it comes. Make sure it is a slow portion of the day and they will likely bring it out to you. That is what I did when I wanted to be sure the flavoring was safe at a theater I go to every once in a while. Chances are very good it is a safe product, at least gluten wise. -
ARCHIVED Hyperprolactinemia As A Marker For Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to shannon79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. It does sound like you could be one of us so that was a good catch from your doctor. You mention you have forced yourself to eat gluten the last couple of days. Does that mean you have either been gluten free or gluten light? If you are did you let the doctor know before he ordered the bloodwork? If that is the case you need to make... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Work, Negative Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bttrfly62's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You really need to consider yourself diagnosed, IMHO. You have the genes and you had positive blood tests. You ARE celiac. Did you get a copy of your biopsy results? How many biopsies did the doctor do? Some idiot doctors won't diagnose until the villi are totally destroyed. Plus with you still on gluten chances are you will need lots more appointments and... -
ARCHIVED Snyders Gluten Free Pretzels
ravenwoodglass replied to Alwayssomething's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never had any problems with these pretzel and am in fact munching on some of the honey mustard ones right now. I do occasionally find a thinner one or two in a bag and eat them happily. I wish they all were the skinny ones as those are usually more browned which I like.
