  1. Have they done the test where they put a little piece of paper in your eye? That is the way the eye doctor tested me for Sjorgen's when I was having problems with my eyes. IMHO the doctor who was puzzed by the inflammation shouldn't have just basically shrugged his shoulders. Can you get a referral to another doctor for a second opinion? The eye doctor...
  2. Looking if your B12 is on the low end of normal you may want to consider taking a sublinual B12 for a bit. What ranges was your doctor using? It used to be thought that 250 was the bottom of normal but it has been raised to 500 from what I understand.
  3. Thanks for the info. I am assuming you just need enough gin to cover. Is that right? Well worth a try as it would make my hours after work easier and in the morning the stiffness is awful so maybe it would help with that also. It would be nice not to have to get up at least four hours before work so I can move. I could sleep past 4am if that happened.
  4. That is really great news! I may have to give that a try myself even though I really can't stand gin. Would rum work?
  5. It wouldn't be a bad idea to see a ped gastro. You can start out having your ped run a full celiac panel making sure to test her total IGA.
  6. I don't know if the endo would show anything celiac wise. It could show other issues if they are present though. Did you have the DGP tests at diagnosis? If so from what I understand that would be more likely to show if you are getting regularly CC'd.
  7. You mention CC. When you have gotten CC have you reacted? If not then you might want to go ahead and do a gluten challenge and get tested. Have you asked your Mom if you were tested when you were to little to remember? You could get copies of your medical records and see if there was a reason, other than your two family members being celiac, that your Mom...
  8. So sorry you are going through this awful anxiety. While it doesn't happen to everyone it isn't unheard of to be so frightened especially if your symptoms were severe. You may also be going through a withdrawl that can highten those feelings of anxiety. If you wash your produce before eating or cooking that will be enough to keep you safe from any gluten...
  9. One of my bosses had shingles and was also give Lyrica. He also had side effects and had a hard time stopping it once the shingles were gone.
  10. You need to discuss this with the principal and if you all ready have find out when the next school board meeting takes place. You might also want to discuss the issue with some other parents. Chances are there are other parents who are concerned about the junk food grazing going on. It would be one thing if they were eating fruit or cut up veggies but Doritos...
  11. Do go ahead and make an appointment with your OB/GYN to discuss the irregularity of your cycles. Hopefully your doctor will be able to set your mind at ease. Stressing out about getting pregnant can be counterproductive so the less you worry about it the better your chances of concieving. Try to relax and enjoy your little one and your husband and hopefully...
  12. It is very rare that a false positive with a celiac panel would occur. False negatives on biopsy are more common though as damage can be patchy and be missed. Positive blood test trumps negative biopsy and folks that happens to should always give the diet a shot and see if it helps their symptoms as positive blood test and relief on the diet is pretty diagnostic...
  13. Celiac can be triggered by an illness or other stressor. You may want to visit your doctor and ask for a full celiac panel. Do continue to consume gluten until after all celiac related testing is finished. If you are being woken up by D do be sure to let your doctor know. According to my GI doctor this is not unusual for folks with celiac but does not happen...
  14. Would I eat them? No way. IMHO it sounds like there would be a big risk of CC.
  15. Yes. If the can only lists the item such as beans and perhaps an ingredient like 'citric acid', salt and water it will be fine. If you are talking about something like baked beans read the whole ingredient list. The key is to make sure to read the whole label. Wheat will always be declared and it is very, very rare for something like barley to be hidden...
  16. I have also seen that article and totally agree that board members should reply to things they disagree with in a manner that is not as rude as some of the comments I have seen here. We are supposed to be here to be helpful to others not to make fun of them or cut them to pieces just because we disagree with something they have stated.
  17. Excellent suggestion. Having hubby hand wash his own dishes if he is the only one eating gluten also might be adviseable. It might also be a good idea to make a rule that ALL food be eaten at the table. With that going for all family members whether they are gluten free or not. That would make crumbs easy to clean up and end concern about gluten contamination...
  18. I think it is usually advised to do the equivalent of 1-2 slices of bread a day for the challenge. Do make sure your doctor does a full panel and be sure it includes the DGP tests. It is possible you may still get a false negative but with the newer DGP tests I don't think that happens as much as with the older tests. I am not sure but since your symptoms...
  19. There are folks that have had negative biopsies even with positive blood work. Sometimes damage is patchy and it can be missed. With positive blood work you do need the diet no matter what the biopsy results turn out to be. Since you have postive blood work and have had your biopsy you can go ahead and start the diet you don't need to wait for the results...
  20. Before you buy Taste of the Wild please do a search for reviews and recalls on the products. When you change your pets over to a gluten free food do be sure to do it gradually over a period of a week or two. They can get upset tummys if you switch too suddenly. I switched my dog to the Taste of the Wild a couple months ago but soon after my little dog starting...
  21. In relation to the lymph nodes I can only answer with my own experience. I had enlarged nodes in both my neck and groin prediagnosis. Doctors never really investigated the cause, I think because I had such severe DH they attributed the enlarged nodes to the lesions. It took a long time for the nodes to go down but they eventually did. As far as dairy goes...
  22. I had pretty severe back pain pre-diagnosis but then I had severe pain pretty much everywhere. I am now for the most part pain free, unless I get glutened. Do be sure to drop dairy for a bit as many of us have problems with that until we heal. That may help with some of the bloating. You can reintroduce it after you have healed for a bit. Celiac does cause...
  23. In children it can be important to get a diagnosis so they can get the accomodations they need at school and college. Did they run a celiac panel on him before you took him gluten free? He could very well have celiac even with just the one gene. The fact that his symptoms have improved gluten free IMHO is signifiacant. How long has he been gluten free?
  24. Can you get a referral to a rheumatologist? If not maybe your doctor can order x-rays of your hands to look for the damage that would be found with RA. As Barty said it could also be a tendon issue. Whatever it is I hope you get some relief soon.
  25. Great news and thanks for sharing. Prayers are continueing for the whole family.
