  1. It would be so nice if acupuncturists, naturopathic and chiropracters would advise folks to get tested before trying the diet. It would make things so much easier on us. Nicole gave you some great advise and I hope after doing a challenge you get clear answers. If not then it would be a good idea to get strict with the diet after all your celiac testing is...
  2. Ewwww... Makes that p-nut butter sandwich I have taken to work every day for going on two years look really yummy. I know they are harmless, and good protein but finding one of those guys in a half eaten bowl of frozen spinach has had me buying fresh and freezing myself for years now. You have ensured that I will be looking over my frozen broccoli very...
  3. Gosh I hope it doesn't go up that much where I live. It is still under $5 here (just barely). It is hard to afford especially if you have a relatively low income. It would be nice if as demand goes up for gluten free bread the price goes down but oh well......
  4. Trace amounts can cause just as severe of a reaction as eating a slice of bread. Celiac is an autoimmune disease and your symptoms are caused by the bodies reaction to the antibodies formed from gluten. What are you eating? It is best at first to go with whole foods like meats, fruits and veggies etc as close to as nature made them as possible. Dairy products...
  5. Have you had a celiac panel done? If not it would be a good idea to start there.
  6. What great news. Thank you for the update. Nice to hear your Thanksgiving went well and that you have had so many positive changes.
  7. That was the way DH presented with me. Arms and legs in the crooks is awful. As a child they thought I had poison ivy. It wasn't until adulthood that the lesions moved to my scalp, back of neck and unfortunately my face. Glad you found out that it was DH before it got that far. I was lucky and started to get relief from new outbreaks within a month or so...
  8. From what I understand yes being on steroids will impact your blood tests.
  9. Welcome to the board. You already got some good advice and I would just like to add that you should get copies of the tests your doctor ran. You need to know what tests he did as some doctors will only run one or two. Some will also say the test is negative if the results are a low positive or if only one of the tests is positive but the rest are negative...
  10. By 'pure' oats you do mean oats that are certified as gluten free right? If they are not the are likely contaminated. I also react about the same as I do with gluten. Been a real long time since I tried them. Reaction was bad enough for me to decide to just live without them. If you are not sure it is the oats you could drop them for now and try again when...
  11. Welcome. If possible you should be tested for celiac before you go gluten free. If you later decide you want to be tested you would have to go back on gluten for anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months. That can be hard if you are celiac because at times reactions are stronger after we have been gluten free and the antibodies have calmed down. Do...
  12. I don't use Shout but do use all the other products with no problems. You may want to try and find a phone number for the 'Frozen' products or see if you can find a safe lip gloss for her. Some companies make nice 'chapstick' type products that have a bit of color and are safe.
  13. I use a lot of Garnier products. They will clearly label gluten ingredients and much of their line is gluten free. I also use coconut oil. I use it on my little dog often. She loves it and comes running when I ask if she wants to be oiled. It leaves her coat nice and soft.
  14. You can not be tested for celiac if you are not eating gluten. If you plan on being tested you need to start eating gluten again. At least a couple of slices of bread a day for a couple months. You don't need a specialist to order the blood test. Your GP can do that. If those were positive then you would likely be referred to a GI for an endoscopy.
  15. The inflammation from celiac reactions can cause asthma like problems. Has your doctor evaluated you for asthma? I was on both an oral med and an inhalor before I was diagnosed. Once the inflammation calmed down I no longer needed either med. Perhaps the next time you have a 'flare' you could get in to see the doctor so he can figure out if that is what is...
  16. I wonder if taking one dose of an anti-anxiety med might work for you. If your doctor knows of this issue you have he could give you a script for one dose. Being a doctor prescribed med they couldn't refuse you the job because you took it. Perhaps for the future he could give you a letter stating your condition and a medical need for alternate drug testing...
  17. I agree with the others. You need to do a proper gluten challenge, a couple of slices of bread a day for at least a couple of months, and then get retested. If your doctor(s) have told you to only eat it for a couple days you need new doctors. It does sound like you could be one of us and seeing as you have children and celiac is genetic it would be a good...
  18. It appears the food you were feeding him was wheat gluten free but not gluten free. From their website The carbohydrate content of our food comes from rice, oats and barley If you haven't been glutened yet by that food gluten in the new food the vet sold you should be okay. That said some dogs also need to be gluten and even grain free. Neither that...
  19. Rest is a good thing whenever we are recovering from any illness. Getting drunk is not IMHO a good idea. You will be more likely to 'slip up' and grab that slice of pizza at the party if you are or to 'deep' kiss with someone who is drinking a beer. Celiac disease can also impact the liver. I tragically know that all too well as you can see in my sig. Quite...
  20. When I was growing up Friday was fish day. My favorite way Mom cooked it was to simply put it in the oven with a bit of butter and paprika and baked until it flakes easily with a fork. Depending on the thickness it took about 15 to 20 minutes or so. I still ordered baked or broiled haddock every time I went out to dinner, when I used to eat in restaurants...
  21. You should be fine just washing them.
  22. That is interesting. Do you have a link to where you got that info?
  23. Yes that is a positive result even if all other tests are negative. That test is specific to celiac and with that high of a result your doctor may diagnose you without any further testing. A biopsy may also be advised. If you think that you will choose to do the biopsy do keep eating gluten until after that test is done. Once all celiac related testing is...
  24. Happy Birthday a week late. What a nice thing for them to do. You must work in a great office. Be happy you are still inching toward forty. Once you get there you will be racing to sixty. May you always be twenty five looking from the inside out.
  25. Were you eating a regular gluten filled diet when you got the tests done? Being gluten free or gluten light can cause false negatives with testing. If you were gluten free or gluten light you may want to go back on gluten for a couple of months and then get tested again. You could also just do the diet strictly for at least a couple months and see if your...
