  1. Please double check your meds for gluten. Tums unless they changed recently are NOT gluten-free. Please have your pharmacist check all scripts and call the manufacturor for any OTC you are taking. You may continue to need the Tums because you are taking the Tums. Gluten is in a lot of tummy complaint OTCs, sometimes I wonder if they put it in on purpose...
  2. This doctor sounds like most of mine . For one thing if you are already gluten-free the blood tests will be negative. If they did not do enough biopsies or did not biopsy the right place you can have a false negative on those. Have you tried Enterolab for food intolerance testing? You may want to get some more info about them. If you are responding well...
  3. lillyth, If you are going through all this for the tax write off only you are putting yourself through hell for nothing. IMHO Our family thought we would do that when first diagnosed, hubby is a retired computer anyalst for a big insurance company and this was his take on this. First you can only write off after you get to a certain percentage of your...
  4. Gluten Free Diet, it's the best test.
  5. Being gluten free will only effect tests specifically for gluten intoelrance. It will have no effect on the outcome of this.
  6. My DD had strong Schizo symptoms before diagnosis. She was very anxious and paranoid and was convinced for almost a year that I was poisoning her. She would eat nothing unless she had watched every step of the preperation. My DS also had some symptoms, most prominent that he would hear voices. Things resolved for my DD after diagnosis and starting a gluten...
  7. It will get better with time, it may not go away completely but it will become less painful. As another poster said it is very much a greiving process the best way to get through it is to try and be prepared. I always have chocolate available, I love it and it helps that I can have M&M, silly I know. I don't trust anyplace to feed me so I eat at home...
  8. Since gluten is a whole body toxin the body is going to try and release it through not just the bowels but also through the blood stream and urinary tract. The body is going to try and rid itself of this toxin in any way it can, I think this is the reason many notice a increase in urination and sweating when we get glutened, what we may be noticing is the...
  9. I know it seemed like a nasty thing to do to you at the end of a rough day but they did you a favor. If they had tried to accomodate you you would most likely have gotten poisoned. In a place like Freindlys they have a flat grill, they cook everything on it. Yea they could shove stuff to the side but for us that is not good enough. I don't risk eating...
  10. Why are you so sure he is not gluten intolerant or celiac? Sounds like he had a positive reaction to a gluten challenge to me. My husband was sure he wasn't too, I bullied the doctor into doing a celiac panel and guess who came up a low positve.
  11. This is a good point but I would use something along the lines of triscuits or cream of wheat. With doing a challange with a bread product you may react to the yeast, or the sugars, or the possible dairy or???. When challenging also be sure to add the food for a week in pure form as intolerances are a delayed reaction and if you eat the suspect food one...
  12. Hi, This post struck a chord with me, we noticed the same thing with my DD, she had patches on her elbows, I had DH and sebboriac psoriasis mostly on my scalp and back. I have been gluten-free for 3 years now and my skin has finally healed. I was seeing some improvement early on then I went to work for the school system and my skin got much worse again...
  13. Jennifer, How long have you been gluten-free? And are you totally gluten-free including toiletries? I weaned myself off all drugs including a mix of an anticholeragenic and valium before I started my elimination diet with the allergist. Depression and anxiety were a recurring theme in my life since I was about 11. I called the effect 'little red feet...
  14. To my knowledge, and it has been a very long time since my medical training so I may be wrong but this is simply a blood test. I believe it checks the iron levels in your blood. It could be helpful if celiac is causing anemia. It is not a part of the celiac panel used to look specifically for celiac. Being gluten-free will not effect the results of the...
  15. I don't think it will neccessarily help the disease cancer itself, but there are so many undiagnosed celiacs out there and the ones who are undiagnosed or gluten intolerant run a very real risk of the stress of the tretment causeing their symptoms to get worse. I do believe that celiac and gluten intolerance are a contributing factor in the development of...
  16. Antigliadin Abs,IgG was 16, Above 9 is positive (positive for what?) This is positive for celiac. Have you tried the gluten-free diet yet? You should.
  17. I'm going to ditto what Sally said about having both, but I do think there is a connection.
  18. Hi Carol, I am glad to see you are taking the sublingual B 12 as well as the rest. Please make sure everuthing is gluten free and please just take the reccommended amont of the iron. Your stores will build back up but too much iron in a supplement can be dangerous. Also if you are newly gluten-free you will most likely be on an emotional rollercoaster...
  19. The reason I would do all patients and not just the obvious GI related malignacies is because gluten really seems to be a systemic toxin, for one thing, and also because even if these folks don't have a gluten related malignacy there is some research that has show many cancer patients do better on a gluten free diet. I believe this is because they were...
  20. Please remember when you do the challenge that for some it can be 3 to 4 days before you see a reaction. You would also want to consume it for more than one day if you don't react quickly. You also may want to test with something like triscuits instead of pasta and beer, you need to know your reacting to gluten and not dairy or yeast. Lots of us react...
  21. I like another poster was very ill before I was diagnosed and have some unresolved nerve issues because of it. You don't know how many systems ae effected until you are really, truely gluten-free. Do you have skin problems, well gluten-free they will most likely go away, do your joints and muscles hurt at times? Do you have the occasional upset tummy?...
  22. Radman, I wonder, with you being an oncologist, what you would see if you routinely gave your patients a complete celiac panel? My DD had severe GERD but only minor preceliac changes were visible on scope and biopsies. Her GERD was gone for good after she went gluten-free. I wonder if there is a corelation between people who have GERD and are also celiac...
  23. First rely on your bodies response to the diet not the blood tests, I am not saying don't get them just don't dismiss gluten intolerance if they come back negative. As for breakfast, often I will have a carnation instant breakfast, the powdered not the ready mixed and don't get the chocolate malt. I also often just grab my baggie and run, in the baggie...
  24. My IBS symptoms went away very quickly, within 3 days, it seemed like a miracle. I was on an allergist guided elimination diet and thought I had died and gone to heaven! It was the first time in 15 years I had not had painful D several times a day. When he told me not to be surprised if my other symptoms went away I was just 'yea, right'. To my surprise...
