ARCHIVED A Warning About Ground Beef Ground In Store At Meijer
ravenwoodglass replied to motheroftwins2010's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry this happened to you. Are you sure it couldn't have been anything other than the ground beef? Reactions can be delayed so it might be something you had earlier in the day or even the week. CC happens but it is illegal for a company to add fillers without disclosing them. So if it was the ground beef it was CC and not a filler. The usual filler for... -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Reaction.
ravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry this happened to you. I hope it isn't too painful of a lesson. I don't know what your reactions are so it is hard to say what might help. If you get stomach pain maybe keep some Pepto liquid on hand. If your symptoms include muscle or joint pain try an anti-inflammatory like Aleve or asprin or whatever you usually take. Bengay or Tiger Balm might help... -
ARCHIVED Bad Doctor?
ravenwoodglass replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What a horrible excuse for a doctor. As others have stated we have all had too many experiences like that. My worst was the neuro that found my brain lesions. After a spinal tap confirmed that I didn't have MS after all he stated that the lesions meant nothing. I just wanted to be sick. I think we all need voodoo dolls. After all we can't really do anything... -
Have you had your B12 levels checked? Low levels can cause numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Did this start around the same time you started the smoothies? If so you may not tolerate gluten-free oats and that may be causing the symptoms. I have livedo reticularis which is what it sounds like is going on with your legs. In myself inflammation...

Well the biggest risk for you seems to be a full blown stroke. As to other possible risks cancer is one, as well as impact to parts of your body you might never expect like your joints and muscles, liver, heart, kidneys and more. Reactions cause inflammation and that can attack pretty much any organ in your body. Do keep yourself safe and stay away from...

Rice Is Making Us Sick!
ravenwoodglass replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the board. Perhaps try a different brand of rice when you are feeling better. Some of us also have issues with soy so the soy sauce could be the problem. It can be frustrating for a bit as we heal and can be hard to figure out what is giving us issues. A food diary can help pinpoint things that are causing delayed reactions as it isn't always... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Inconclusive Biopsy Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to tealeaves1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your next step is giving the diet a good strict try for a couple of months if all celiac testing is finished. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 5 Weeks Some Symptoms Getting Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to motheroftwins2010's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You say your 100% dairy free but then say you are eating yogurt every morning. Did you mean you are lactose free not dairy free? Some of us will react to the protein in dairy products rather than the lactose. You may want to drop the yogurt for a bit to see if that helps if the doctor can not find a reason for your suffering. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Tell If Antibiotic Has Gluten In It?
ravenwoodglass replied to ValerieMarie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What I usually do is to get the name of the maker from the pharmacist and then call them. I get their telephone number by entering their name and the words 'contact info' in a search engine. Some pharmacies will do the call for you but some won't. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 5 Weeks Some Symptoms Getting Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to motheroftwins2010's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had blood in my stool with salmonella also. That was one of the things that clued me in, that and the weird rash on my ankles and fever, that I was dealing with more than just my 'IBS'. Do get the stool testing done. Don't wait to see the GI your regular doctor can order the tests. If it is salmonella or another food borne illness to wait could be dangerous... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 5 Weeks Some Symptoms Getting Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to motheroftwins2010's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So sorry you are going through this. Has your doctor done stool testing to rule out any food borne illness. I ask because your symptoms are very much like when I had salmonella. I was prediagnosis and suffered as you are suffering for two weeks (with the doctor insisting my IBS was just acting up) before the doctor finally did stool testing and found it.... -
ARCHIVED Never Felt So Sickly, Please Help. :(
ravenwoodglass replied to Charlotteee89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. It sounds like you are having a real rough time. Good to hear you have a doctors appointment this week. Be sure to tell him in detail how you have been feeling. Do ask him to run a full celiac panel on you if he doesn't offer one. Do not stop eating gluten before your celiac testing is done. Hopefully the doctor will run a full batttery... -
ARCHIVED Still Feeling Awful. All The Time.
ravenwoodglass replied to upsilamba's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I did my doctor guided elimination diet he had me go with my 5 allowed foods and beverages until my symptoms subsided which took about 2 weeks. Only then was I allowed to add in new items one at a time, in pure form, three times a day for a week. If no problems arose I was allowed to keep that item and then add another food. I should note that my starting... -
ARCHIVED Still Feeling Awful. All The Time.
ravenwoodglass replied to upsilamba's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you are going through this. Have you eliminated dairy products? If not that would be your first step. An elimaination diet can be helpful if pinpointing other intolerances. IMHO it is best to see an allergist who will test for true allergies and then give you a starting point that will give you the nutrition and calories you need. It can be hard to... -
I was fortunate and the D did stop quickly for me except for times when I consumed soy or sorgum. That may not be the case for everyone though. You mentioned you are taking some prescription meds and supplements. Do check with your pharmacist to see if any scripts might have D as a side effect. Also some supplements will state they are gluten free but still...

Are you going with mostly whole unprocessed foods like fresh meats, veggies and fruits, rice, potatoes and keeping gluten free specialty foods like bread, cookies etc. to a minimum? That is the safest way to go if you can. Some of us have trouble with some gluten free ingredients. My body doesn't like soy or sorgum, as an example, and many of us don't tolerate...

ARCHIVED Not Sure What I Have
ravenwoodglass replied to glux's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You could be celiac but to be tested you do have to be actively eating gluten. The tests are for antibodies and if you are not eating gluten your body will stop producing antibodies. If you want to have testing done you should go back on gluten now but do tell the GI that you have only been back on it for 2 weeks as a longer challenge... -
Gluten Ataxia?
ravenwoodglass replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. My ataxia symptoms came on gradually and progressed over years. I hope your little one does better soon. It is so hard when our little ones are ill and struggling. You may want to start a new thread to ask about ataxia onset so more of us will see the topic and respond. -
ARCHIVED Low Iga
ravenwoodglass replied to BelleInBoots's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I only know that low IGA will invalidate any IGA related celiac testing. Others can hopefully give you more info. -
ARCHIVED Revlon Hair Products
ravenwoodglass replied to kristinagaro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Garneir will clearly label gluten ingredients. I use their shampoos and conditioners and back when I was still concerned about getting rid of gray they were the brand I used. -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Heart Problems?
ravenwoodglass replied to kellysensei's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IMHO it is more likely you are experiencing stomach pains or it could possibly be gas. I get those pains when I get glutened or soyed. Many times a quick dose of brand name Pepto Bismal liquid will relieve it. Can't say that is the case for you. It does sound like your doctor is on top of this and has ruled out heart issues. That should give you at least... -
ARCHIVED 30 Years W/celiac & I'm Still Coping!
ravenwoodglass replied to heymom45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't have much time but wanted to say welcome. You have found a very supportive and informative place to vent and to learn. You have 'earned' the right to a nice treat so do check out the recipe board for ideas on ones that will be safe and comforting. Chocolate works for me but I still need to find more self control as it isn't unusual for me to consume... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/anxiety/how Quickly Symptoms Disappear
ravenwoodglass replied to AprilBeth2013's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten can't be absorbed through intact skin. It is concerning that the dye that was used was burning your scalp though. Did you tell your colorist? If not you should since this may be an allergic reaction that could get severe if you use those products again. You sure don't want to go in for color and walk out with hair falling out and nasty sores on your... -
ARCHIVED Test Results.....worrying?
ravenwoodglass replied to ButtercupSarah's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you still eating gluten? Do start the diet trial as soon as all celiac related testing is finished. Do keep in mind that the gene test can be helpful but even if you are negative for the two most common genes you can still be celiac. -
ARCHIVED Another Boring Plea! But I Am So Upset!
ravenwoodglass replied to MGR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
