  1. I agree with this 100% I also have been having trouble sleeping since going gluten free. I used to have to sleep 11-12 hours. Really! I'd go to bed about 10:00-11:00pm and wake up about 10:00 am. After going gluten free I found myself staying up until 2:00 am and still waking up at 10:00am! Articles I've read suggest you can graudually change...
  2. I love melatonin. It really helps me when I have trouble sleeping (which is a lot more lately since going gluten free), and I have no apparent ill effects from it. But I also recently noticed the autoimmune warning on the bottle when I was checking for gluten when starting the diet. That worries me, so I have been trying not to take it as often. Does...
  3. I'm just the opposite. I used to sleep all the time. Now I find myself having trouble falling asleep. I think it is because I have more energy. I'm used to going to be early and sleeping in late. Now I find myself not tired at my usual time, and staying up later. I think it is because I need less sleep. I'm in the process of resetting my biological...
  4. I don't know, but I was wondering the same thing, lately. Since starting the diet, I haven't been experiencing it much lately, except when I went home for Thanksgiving and got glutened. But to be fair, it was really cold, and cold definitely sets it off for me. My sister has been convinced for years that we both have this, though neither of us have seen...
  5. It takes me about 24-48 hours to notice an effect, even from out right cheating. I just started the diet in August. I actually wish the symptoms were instantaneous. It sure would make it easier to figure out what you did wrong. Not to mention, doctors would've caught on to the problems with gluten a long, long time ago.
  6. Oh I see it everywhere too. My BIL has MS, and I can't help but wonder if a gluten-free diet would help him. My mother suffers from the same fatigue and allergies I do. My MIL has IBS. FIL has GERD and a myrid of health problems. Both inlaws briefly went on low-carb diets and looked and felt great, but didn't make the connection. My DH has GERD also...
  7. I too have adrenal fatigue. I am self diagnosed after reading Dr. Wilson's book--Adrenal Fatigue. I also have a very high a.m. cortisol level from a test my doctor ordered, which according to Dr. Wilson is a sign of it. Dr. Wilson's adrenal rebuilder supplements help me tremendously. They are what kept my head above water before I discovered I had a wheat...
  8. The only withdrawl symptom I had was one scarey episode of low blood sugar. But I really brought that on myself, because I followed South Beach Diet when I went gluten-free because I didn't know what else to follow. If you're prone to low blood sugar, make sure you eat plenty of other carbs like white rice and potatoes and corn, if you tolerate. I...
  9. I think I also read somewhere that celaic sometimes goes into remission in the teen years, and they don't understand why. And that is why they mistakenly used to think people outgrew it. If you read alot of people's stories here, they often mention being sick as a kid. okay in the teen years, and then sick again as an adult. Although I'm not a diagnosed...
  10. I know exactly how you feel! I've run into the same thing. And when I finally found a nice primary doctor who believed me and referred me to specialists, the specialists would tell me I'm crazy. I went through this for almost 10 years. To make it worse, my DH is military, and so many military doctors treat wives like hypochondriacs while they send the...
  11. I'm kinda in the same boat. Blood tests for celiac negative, and as a result, they won't do an endoscopy. (I probably could've talked them into it if I hadn't just had one that looked for an ulcer.) I kept persuing it, and was able to get food allergy testing that showed only a wheat allergy. DH thinks I should take that as a sign that only wheat is the...
  12. I had a similar experience as you with the low carb diets. I went on South Beach and felt wonderful, better than I had in a long time, and then I went to Phase3 and tried to eat whole wheat bread, and WHAM back to feel sick again. That's when I first suspected wheat was a problem. When you read all the South Beach testimonials, I can't help but wonder...
  13. The first days after going gluten-free, I was STARVING. I was eating all the time. But then, all of a sudden, I wasn't very hungry most of the time. I started the diet in earnest in August, and I've lost 15 pounds without even trying. (and it was weight I needed to lose) I also have more energy, though it waxes and wanes because of my environmental allergies...
  14. I don't have much to add, but to say please go gluten free ASAP. I finally after a decade of suffering have a confirmed wheat allergy, though in my heart I beleive I am gluten sensitive. But I am very sick. If I could go back in time and go gluten free earlier, I would. You are truly lucky to have a diagnosis so early in life before the disease destroys...
  15. That's true! I forgot about that. I wonder why they want her to wait to provide it now in that case? Though IMHO the stool sample is secondary. The clinic doctor obviously intended for certain other tests which can only be performed at a hospital (likely an ultrasound) to done at the hospital or he wouldn't have sent her there. She should get in touch...
  16. Because if the menstral blood gets in with the stool sample, the lab may mistakenly say there is blood in the stool when there isn't any, and then the doctors will go down a totally wrong path with diagnosis and other tests. Lisa, Please get in contact with that clinic doctor ASAP. And next time he sends you to the hospital have his card with a phone...
  17. Thank you all. I think I feel a combination of all the feeling all of you mentioned: anger and resentment towards the doctors who misdagnosed me, all my life, and especially the last 10 years. I am sad and resentful over all the time I lost. And hathor you hit the nail on the head about it hitting me like a ton of bricks, despite being so strong while testing...
  18. I think a lot of people with celiac/gluten intolerance have trouble with allergies. My theory is that the gluten stimulates the immune response, and then this already over stimulated immune system over-reacts to common allergens. I have no doubt Benedryl helps you to feel better overall. I know my Rx Zyrtec helps me survive. I hope someday to wean myself...
  19. I have terrible allergies also. And though winter is better for pollen allergies, it is the worst season for allergies to dust and dust mites, and those are especially troublesome for asthma. And if you use a humidifier for the asthma, you can spread mold. Even though this may be a virus, your indoor allergies aren't helping the situation any. If...
  20. Did the broth label list just soy or soy sauce? Soy Sauce is made from wheat and not gluten free.
  21. I don't know if anyone remembers me. I wasn't sure where to put this post, hope its the right place. I found this forum this past summer. I posted a post with my history, but can't seem to find it. To make a long story short, I always was a sickly, skinny kid. I had bad seasonal allergies that became year long allergies in college. After I got married...
  22. OMG I just returned to this forum after a few months away, and I had an incident just like that when I first went gluten free! I woke up shakey, sweaty and nauseous. I stumbled to the fridge and drank some milk and immediately felt better. I too, am familar with low blood sugar episodes, but this was much more severe and extremely frightening. If you...
  23. Oh my goodness! I can't thank you enough for posting this! As you have probably gathered from other posts, I've had horrible allergies for over a decade! I too have tested positive to almost anything--including all the grasses out there. And my allergies keep changing! I'm retested frequently due to moving around a lot. In one town I was allergic to...
  24. I've been told a lot of stupid things by doctors but my "favorite" and the one that makes me angriest is a pediatrician who when I was 12 and complained of headaches and stomach aches, especially in the afternoon during and after school asked me to stand on the floor and he held his hand up and told me to touch it. Then he held it higher, and higher until...
  25. I'm in the same boat as you. I've had a ton of problems over the years, and I started getting horrible digestive symptoms about 4 months ago. The GI has done every test he can including the celiac panel which was negative. I'm waiting the results of an abdominal CT. I plan to post my blood test results when I get my copy, but assuming the CT scan is negative...
