  1. Antibiotics do kill both good and bad. The "standard" diet encourages the faster growth of bad bacteria. We basically feed the bad with the sugar and carbs.
  2. Hubby and I were talking about this this morning. We were trying to figure out exactly HOW you would tell someone that your friend would not get off the toilet.
  3. I could be wrong but you might want to look up Narcissistic personality disorder. To me it sounds like your Mom is one of these and it may bring you comfort hearing other's stories and knowing you defiantly are not alone and there is a name for the disorder. We didn't have gluten issues until recently but I had to deal with shellfish and milk while...
  4. The hospital food was the only good thing about the hospital I had my first 2 babies in. They made an "issue" specific meal fit for royalty. The chef was the only person there who got it!
  5. I have been going to drs since I was 11 to try and figure out what was wrong with me (I turn 42 this year). Hubby (and his siblings) has had this odd rash all his life and has seen drs but with no real info. They all just want to start giving us an arsenal of pills and not really spending the time to find out what is wrong. If we go to a new dr, they...
  6. Same here. I guess I need the blunt way.
  7. I was told by our nutritionist that you don't mess with gluten and casein -- they are life long issues. The problem with this is that they often do not remain constant -- symptoms can morph and fool people into thinking they are healed yet often new symptoms show up that the sufferer doesn't always associate with the trigger.
  8. Yes, I think it is bleu cheese. I could be a little off on the bleu because we don't do either gluten or casein but I do remember one of the "fancier" cheeses with gluten.
  9. a single CC will not spike an Enterolab test that high, that fast. It takes more than 2 weeks to get dairy out of your system. Plan on at least 2 months. Goats cheese has a similar casein to cow cheese. Some react more to goat while some react more to cow. It you are testing casein/dairy, take it all out.
  10. That is one that would have NEVER of entered my head. I guess you have to question EVERYTHING!!
  11. I've had almost all the symptoms you have described...especially the rolling into a ball on the floor. The pains were so horrible and I would just lie on the floor for hours. I couldn't even get up into bed. Mine is mostly from milk although we have just learned that the "leftovers" are from gluten. If you haven't started, you may want to consider testing...
  12. Are you getting enough good sleep and/or protein?? My eyes check out perfect as far as floaters and all that stuff goes. Yet, if the kids have had a nightmare and woken me or the cats fight or whatever and I don't get my sleep I have those. Same with protein. If I don't get a good start to the day or too many sweet type things, here they come again.
  13. Have you tried gluten, soy and casein all at the same time? (I'd focus on casein not just lactose) At the same time I would also supplement with a good acidophilus (could get worse before better) and give it a good 6 months.
  14. I am one who has received flack and I believe it to be 100% the people I am dealing with. I tell everyone the same way. The majority of the people are respectful. Then there are the handful who are not. I'll speak of a relative but the other disrespectful people I have encountered have similar personality traits. My "M" is one who is a great control...
  15. Oh yes! I'll have people tell me they are going milk free to eliminate their tummy issues yet they are not about to give up their yogurt and cheese. Then they have the nerve to tell me it is in my head because they still have tummy troubles.
  16. All 5 of us in this house had a nasty withdraw.
  17. Some can be very contact sensitive. It is one of those things you are going to test out yourself to find his sensitivity. For pizza...we chop up a piece of bacon into little bits and cook some ground meat in there. It gives it the salt and greasy feeling you crave with cheese.
  18. I've scrubbed mine down with baking soda and have had no reactions.
  19. Those are my thoughts too. I have a wire shelf in my kitchen. The bottom shelf is loaded with fruits and veggies that don't need to be in the fridge. They can have anyone of those at anytime (Mine are 8,6,4) as long as they sit down and don't roam with the food.
  20. It is irritating that it happens but it is one of those things that just keeps coming up. If it is not her again, you can pretty much bet that someone else will do it. We try to replace the treats our kids are given with something they will want even more than the treat -- sometimes $$, sometimes a stop off to pick up a safe candy, sometimes a stop...
  21. First, never taste the batter of a Gluten-free Casein-free mix before you bake it!! Especially if it has bean flours in it, it is going to taste odd!! Plus, they all tasted off to me for quite a while. Even now, I usually only use bean flours in certain things with stronger taste. I use canola oil and do ok with it. Many people do use ghee and rave...
  22. WooHoo!
  23. At one church event I was in charge of kids with allergies. At snack time I took X kid or kids and got them their bag or appropriate snack and made sure there was no sharing or whatever the requirements.
  24. Well after not getting my new jeans zipped, I have decided I am going back on the 6 week body makeover program. It is Gluten-free Casein-free (actually how we started questioning gluten). The recipes aren't half bad.
  25. I was at a meeting and asked him to bake some cornbread with my gluten-free recipe. It is easy and pretty much a no fail recipe. Well, he starts and couldn't find my baking powder so he subs baking soda. Then he cannot find the salt so he uses rock salt. There was one other ingredient he subbed to that I cannot remember. Anyway I get home and everything...
