ARCHIVED Beer Batter Onion Rings (gluten-free & Rice Free)
burdee replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Someone from my celiac disease Support Group gave me a bottle of Redbridge beer, but I'm not a beer drinker. I plan to try your recipe, because I LOVE onion rings! Thanks for the recipe. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats
burdee replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've tried the Gifts of Nature certified gluten free oats. There is another certified gluten free oat product called simply 'Gluten Free Oats'. They will ship product samples to our local celiac disease Awareness walk and gluten-free food fair. So I'll try that brand after May 19. From what I heard from Cynthia Kupper at GIG today, the Gifts of Nature... -
ARCHIVED Lara Bars
burdee replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree. LARA bars do NOT include a blueberry yogurt flavor. LARA bars do not include anything besides fruit and nuts with cinnamon (in the apple bar). Usually people don't react to blueberries. Consider whether you react to dairy. Either lactose (milk sugar) or casein (milk protein) in the 'yogurt' ingredient of that 'snack bar' could have bothered you... -
ARCHIVED Medical Viewpoint Comparison
burdee replied to mftnchn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for this link. I'll share that with my local celiac disease support group. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED I Am 50 A Woman - Need To Exchange Info And Support
burdee replied to daniela's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Daniela: I was diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years ago at age 57. Diagnosis brought so much emotional relief, because it explained my ongoing (and misdiagnosed), life long symptoms. Of course I had to learn what I could eat, but I had spent many years guessing what foods were 'healthy' for my body. celiac disease diagnosis was only my first step... -
ARCHIVED Lara Bars
burdee replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LARA bars and their factories are totally gluten free. Consider what else you ate before you experienced symptoms. I agree with Heather. Consider the specific fruits or nuts in the specific variety of LARA bar you ate. Many celiacs have other food sensitivities besides gluten. I have diagnosed dairy, egg, soy and cane sugar IgG mediated allergies BESIDES... -
ARCHIVED Can You Have Positive Tests And Not Be Celiac?
burdee replied to Gentleheart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you had gluten intolerance symptoms which influenced your choice to go gluten free for 'many months before' your Enterolab and ELISA tests showed positive results for gluten AND casein sensitivity, I don't think all those test results are false. 'No visible results' does NOT mean your test results were false. No improvement may mean you have other food... -

Registration for the walk (includes tee shirt) begins at 8am on the patio outside the GLCC. The walk and food fair begin at 9am and... -
ARCHIVED Can Everyone Post Their Genes
burdee replied to confused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's my Enterolab gene test results. Everyone who tests with Elab will get an explanation of their genetic (and other test) results. I also posted the interpretation included in my Elab gene test results: Gene Test for Gluten Sensitivity Molecular Analysis: HLA-DQB1*0602, 0302 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 1,3 (subtype 6,8) HLA gene analysis... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine
burdee replied to annie-is-GF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Consider whether you might have sensitivities to egg or milk. Although red wines are gluten free, wine makers commonly use egg white to 'fine' or purify red wines and skim milk to 'fine' white wines. You can find some unrefined wines, but they are more expensive. Also alcohol exacerbates 'leaky gut' symptoms. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED What Happens At A Support Group?
burdee replied to Pacer's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
HEIDI: I LEAD a celiac support group in Seattle. So I can tell you that what happens at group meetings depends on the leader and the members. I suggest you call local leaders of groups in your area. I checked the website for GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) of which my group is a 'partner' member but only found the Suffolk County group on Long Island, which... -
ARCHIVED Almond Breeze
burdee replied to Buck22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe Almond Breeze products contain soy. I tried those when I was searching for a gluten free, dairy free, soy free product. I attributed my reaction to the soy contained in that brand of almond milk. I now use Pacific brand of almond milk. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED Seven Things You Love About Celiac Disease
burdee replied to pedro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I appreciate your positive 'count your blessings' perspective. I hope more people will consider the benefits, not just the burdens, of having celiac disease. Here are my '7 things I love about celiac disease': (1) Because I also have other celiac disease related food allergies (dairy, egg, soy and cane sugar), I'm FORCED to eat a healthy diet of mainly... -
ARCHIVED Very Gassy
burdee replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Intestinal gas usually means malabsorption or we're not completely digesting the foods we eat, because we have intestinal damage or low stomach acid. If you are certain that you eliminated all sources of gluten in your diet, consider testing for: Other food allergies, like dairy, egg, soy, etc., which can develop during long undiagnosed celiac disease... -
My naturopathic doc uses a comprehensive stool test for bacteria, fungus (like Candida Albicans) and parasites. My test results showed I had a Klebsiella (bad bacteria) overgrowth and no bifidobacteria (good bacteria). So I took capryllic acid for awhile and then probiotics (good bacteria) to improve the balance of good to bad bacteria in my gut. Here...

ARCHIVED Could I Be Casein And/or Soy Intolerant Too ?
burdee replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have soy sensitivity (verified by Enterolab tests 8/06). I seemed to have problems every time I ate the Nutty Flax cereal which is supposed to be gluten free. So I did an allergy blood test which included flax. I did NOT react to flax on that test. Then I noticed the lower side of the Nutty Flax box said "Made in a facility that also manufactures... -

ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Constipation...
burdee replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm quoting from my naturopath's monthly newsletter, which discussed Zelnorm removal: Los Angeles Times reported that Zelnorm (tegaserod), a commonly used drug for severe constipation, has been taken off the market due to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. The FDA reviewed 29 studies of the drug, which included more than 18,000 patients. It... -
ARCHIVED Heart Palpitations And Anxiety
burdee replied to Gentleheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't have a 'celiac' doc. My own HMO primary care docs misdiagnosed me for 12 years. So I tested for celiac disease through Enterolab. However after 2 years of ongoing symptoms after I eliminated gluten, dairy and soy, I read a book "The IBS Solution" by a local celiac (he has celiac disease) naturopath, Stephen Wangen, ND. Most of his book is on his... -
ARCHIVED Heart Palpitations And Anxiety
burdee replied to Gentleheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Heart palpitations, rapid heart beat, anxious physical sensations even when I don't think anxious thoughts and slight nausea are ALL my reactions to eating cane sugar. I never realized I had an IgG mediated cane sugar allergy until I took the ELISA test on which I strongly reacted to cane sugar, but not beet sugar or honey. I can eat other sweetners like... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis?
burdee replied to mellajane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My celiac naturopath says most people with untreated celiac disease or other food allergies have problems with stomach digestion because the intestines can't adequately process food. So stomach digestion is impaired. I threw up during the night a lot as a small child. My mom said I had 'stomach flu' but nobody else in our house got that like I did. I... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated About What To Eat.
burdee replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Add cane sugar to that list and you exactly describe my 5 allergy/intolerances. Fortunately I learned about most one at a time. So I had time to adjust and learn substitutions before I was diagnosed with another food to restrict. For breakfast I eat nut butter with fruit on gluten-free breads or gluten-free hot cereal cooked with almond milk, fruit and a... -
ARCHIVED Mucous In Poop (sorry! )
burdee replied to Maureen73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Maureen: Every time I get 'glutened' I get horrible gut cramps, bloating and gas for several days. Then as the pain subsides I get mucous, but not always in the stool. Often I will pass gas and pass mucous. OR I feel like I have to 'go' but just pass gas and mucous. After the mucous stage I start feeling well again ... until the next gluten contamination... -
ARCHIVED Entero Lab Results
burdee replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi GFPaperDoll: I TOTALLY agree. Celiac dx or not, GLUTEN IS POISON for many people. I heard Dr. Fine's presentation in Bellingham, WA which convinced me that 'Celiac is just the tip of the Gluten Intolerance iceberg'. I bought his DVD set to share with my local GIG support group. YUP, DQ1s are prone to all those autoimmune complications. I'm so glad I...
