  1. I hope I haven't done this exercise before ... so here goes: 1. FIRST NAME? Susanne 2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Middle name (Kathleen) after father's cousin 3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? Actually can't remember. 4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Occasionally. 5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Applegate Farms Oven Roasted Turkey 6. KIDS...
  2. Enterolab says their tests are sensitive enough to detect antibodies in stool samples up to 2 years after someone stops eating gluten. Usually new celiacs have enough 'slips' or accidental gluten, that the sample has plenty. I sent my sample almost 3 months after I stopped eating gluten. I STILL had a positive test. Unless you have absolutely abstained...
  3. Obviously I'm not a doctor, but I have had wonderful results with magnesium supplementation. Magnesium helps smooth muscle contractions (heart and intestines) as well as calming anxiety. Also magnesium (not calcium) strengthens bones along with Vitamin D. I took Mg to resolve longterm constipation. Most celiacs are very magnesium deficient because damaged...
  4. Scratch or patch tests don't test for foods we eat. Those only show how our skin reacts to substances. We don't put food under our skin. We put it into our stomaches which sends it on to our intestines which produce antibodies which leak into our blood. So stool (intestinal antibodies) or blood tests more accurately test delayed reaction (IgG or IgA)...
  5. Hi Mia: Even after I abstained from gluten, dairy and soy for over 2 years, I still had bloating, gas, cramping pains and chronic fatigue. The intestinal symptoms were more tolerable than the excruciatingly painful symptoms which I had while eating gluten and dairy, but the fatigue remained. So I decided to see a naturopath who would test me for more...
  6. I've been diagnosed (by blood or stool tests) with 4 food allergies besides gluten intolerance (celiac). So I'm making an allergy alert card (which I will laminate) to give to the waiter with my order and verbal instructions, before my upcoming vacation in Maui. That will list my five food allergy/intolerances with comments about each food source. You...
  7. I also have gluten, dairy, soy and egg allergies (as well as cane sugar). So I really appreciated those mayonnaise recipes using simple ingredients which I already have in my pantry. THANKS A BUNCH!! BURDEE
  8. I 'google'd Seattle Sorbets and found this link: Open Original Shared Link Just click on the flavor you want to check out and the ingredients will appear. Champagne orange looked safe. I didn't see chocolate. However you can go to this site: Open Original Shared Link and click on 'contact us' to ask questions about other flavors. BURDEE
  9. Thanks for more recipes, Andrea. I found the nutritional yeast at my local Fred Meyer. Which size flakes (medium or large) do you recommend. Sorry if you mentioned that in an earlier post in this topic, but I didn't want to reread the whole thing again. Also have you seen chickpea miso in any stores? My 'Uncheese' book recommends that in some of their...
  10. I LIVE in Seattle and bought Seattle Sorbet at my local Whole Foods. I like the taste but didn't like the texture (too icy). I did not react to those with my 'gluten contamination' symptoms. I believe they are gluten free. I haven't had any sorbets since my cane sugar allergy diagnosis. So I can't really remember what flavor I tried. BURDEE
  11. Test results for IgG food allergies/intolerances all depend on the lab and/or test you take. My doc said that if your test results show that you have more than 2-4 allergies (besides gluten intolerance), there's not enough quality control standards in the lab. Most people just don't have that many allergies. You may think you have sensitivities to a lot...

    ARCHIVED Hello

I live in north Seattle (Greenlake area) and lead a celiac support group which meets on 2nd Tuesdays of each month in north Bothell. We have some Skagit and Island County members in our group. However there's also an active Bellingham GIG partner group. Check Open Original Shared Link (GIG's website) for a support group near you. BURDEE
  13. I think it tastes like a good sour dough bread and makes great sandwiches. It's low carb, low calorie and high fiber ... just what I want in a sandwich bread so I can load up on fillings. LOL BURDEE
  14. Marissa: YES! The magnesium aspartate with potassium helped a LOT. I'm still using that to stay 'regular'. Most celiacs have huge magnesium deficiencies which affects regularity (as either diarrhea or constipation). I used Mg Aspartate for almost 6 months BEFORE I learned of the egg and sugar allergies and Klebsiella. Sugar actually caused diarrhea, when...
  15. Rather than adding more fiber to your diet, I suggest you take Magnesium supplements. Magnesium draws water into the stool and improves smooth muscle coordination (gut motility). My primary celiac symptom was lifelong constipation (as well as bloating, gas and cramping pain). I consumed LOADS of fiber from fruits, vegies, rice bran and high fiber gluten...
  16. Ener-G Foods' Corn Loaf is gluten, dairy, soy, egg and sugar free. and fantastic. My husband tried an Ener-G foods bread sampler pack and loved Corn Loaf much more than other NRG bread products. He's not even celiac, but avoids gluten to avoid arthritis symptoms. We're lucky in the Seattle area to not only have Ener-G but also a local gluten free bakery...
  17. Lauren: You certainly could have a soy allergy or intolerance. You could test for soy allergy with the ELISA (blood test for IgG antibodies) if you are still actively consuming soy. OR you could test for soy intolerance with the Enterolab stool tests (for IgA antibodies) even if you only eat soy occasionally. I had not eaten soy for several years, because...
  18. Lynne: I'm sorry I joined this thread so late ... but I tested positive for TB on every TB test I took until I just stopped taking those. During my 20s one doc wanted to give me meds to kill off the TB bacteria, but I declined because I react badly to drugs (I'm the 1% who gets all the bad side effects). However I never developed an active case of TB,...
  19. Some birds 'shower' directly under that sprinkler attachment, but Black Capped Chickadees actually lift their wings while under the shower. Other birds land on top of the sprinkler and drink from the 'fountain'. We replaced our dining room window with a huge bay window just to watch our birdee visitors. I can see birds feeding their babies in the 2 birdhouses...
  20. My user name is the nickname my husband gave me. I collect anything 'penguin' and love feeding and watching wild birds. In my next life, when I have lots of time and a maid, I'll have an aviary full of cockateils. For now I'll just feed red winged blackbirds who land on my hand to eat peanuts and other songbirds who visit our 7 feeders, 2 birdhouses...
  21. When I first suspected I had celiac, I turned to this board for answers to my MANY questions about safe foods, symptoms, etc. I ALSO learned about Enterolab through this board. Because my symptoms were excruciatingly painful intestinal cramps (plus irregularity, bloating and cramps), I refused to eat gluten just to take a blood test. So I was happy to...
  22. Andrea: Yes I can tolerate Hershey's plain cocoa powder, but can't have anything with sugar or evaporated cane juice or other sugar cane derivatives. I'll try mixing cocoa with Agave or corn based fructose and coconut oil, to see how that works on a small batch. I really don't like the taste of carob. I'll let you know how that turns out after I try...
  23. Enterolab already tests for dairy, eggs, soy and yeast, using stool tests. See Open Original Shared Link If you're actively eating foods which might bother you, the ELISA blood test (for 100 commonly eaten foods) also tests for food intolerances. BURDEE
  24. How do you KNOW whether you have Candida? When I first saw my doc and told him my symptoms, he thought I might have Candida because of the way I reacted to sugar. So I did that very restrictive antiCandida diet and drank Pau D'Arco tea for 3 weeks while awaiting my stool bacteria, yeast and parasite test results. That test revealed my Candida is in the...
  25. Ancient Harvest makes Quinoa flakes. Here's a link to their website: Open Original Shared Link Isn't there a recipe on your box of quinoa? If not consult the recipes on that site. BURDEE
