ARCHIVED La Tortilla Factory
burdee replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have NOT found the La Tortilla teff tortillas, but I like their corn tortillas. Where did you find their teff tortillas? I have La Tortillas discount coupons and would love to try them. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED New Accurate Test For Gluten Intolerlance
burdee replied to GKittel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab has offered gluten and milk sensitivity stool and celiac gene tests for at least the past 4 years. Last year they added egg, yeast and soy sensitivity stool tests. Their tests may be new to that author, but not to those of us who used Elab to diagnose celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. BURDEE -

ARCHIVED Please Help...which Test Is Best
burdee replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The advantage of Enterolab tests is that you DON'T have to be eating gluten for 3 months before the test, for an accurate measurement of IgA gluten antibodies. I tested 2-1/2 months after I went gluten free and still had positive results on all the tests of their full test panel (gluten and milk sensitivity, Ttg, malabsorption and celiac gene test). Blood... -
ARCHIVED Help! Enterolab Users!
burdee replied to k-amy32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm always surprised by people who pay for all those Enterolab tests and then want other people to interpret tha results, rather than asking Elab for an explanation. I'd say those results are pretty self-explanatory. However I know Elab adds an interpretation to every set of test results. What did your test results interpretation say? I would heed any... -
ARCHIVED Is Post Nasal Drip A Symptom?
burdee replied to chattyCathy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Post-nasal drip is often a symptom of dairy (casein) allergy. My chronic sinus congestion, post-nasal drip, sinus infections and sinus allergies completely disappeared after I abstained from all dairy products. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED ?results Of Fecal Iga Cow's Milk Protein
burdee replied to janelyb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you need to consider ALL your physical symptoms with and without cow's milk consumption. I always believed I had lactose (milk sugar) intolerance and used 'lactase' pills to eat dairy. I only took the Enterolab milk sensitivity test as part of their full panel of tests. I really didn't think I had a milk allergy. My lactose intolerance symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Dairy Free And Still Overeating!
burdee replied to delilah's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you eat for emotional reasons (boredom, stress, loneliness or sadness) or even fatigue, you will overeat on ANY kind of diet. Consider whether you are truly physically hungry before you start to eat. Then listen to your body to notice when you feel satisfied or 'just enough' full, so you STOP eating before you overeat. While you have painful celiac... -
DaVinci's is a bit of a drive and may be okay for a casual (pastries and coffee) breakfast, but for nearby (downtown Seattle) restaurants for gluten free lunches, I suggest: PF Chang's, Bone Fish Grill, Wild Ginger, Flying Fish, Ruth's Chris Steak House and Outback. Right in the Pike Place Market area is Chez Shea, which offers gluten free entrees. Call...

ARCHIVED Warning About Strawberries
burdee replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you leave some strawberries outside, the birds will plant them for you! LOL I planted a few strawberries in a designated garden several years ago. Now I have strawberry plants coming up in places I never dreamed (or intended) that I would see strawberries. They need very little 'yard work' care, if you have decent soil. They prefer acid and well drained... -
ARCHIVED Warning About Strawberries
burdee replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Strawberries are easy to grow in a small garden space or even in a patio or deck pot. If you grow your own, you can choose not to cover the ground under them with straw. I just check my strawberries daily to prop them up on their leaves, so they don't get soggy. Then I wash them thoroughly before eating. However, some people also have strawberry allergies... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
burdee replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I take Country Life Magnesium Aspartate with Potassium. It does not give me cramps or gas like other magnesium compounds. Magnesium oxide is most readily available, but is not easily absorbed and caused lots of gas and bloating for me. Here's a link to an article, which tells the most absorbable forms of magnesium: Open Original Shared Link I also... -
ARCHIVED Strawberry Time
burdee replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you have too many strawberries or just want to save some for winter months when strawberries are very expensive, consider 'flash' freezing them. Wash, cap and drain the strawberries in a colander. Spray a cooky sheet with Pam or lightly oil the pan. Place each strawberry stem (removed) side down on the sheet, so they stand up. Try to keep each berry... -
ARCHIVED Magnesium
burdee replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Country Life Magnesium Aspartate with Potassium. The aspartate form is very absorbable and potassium also facilitates magnesium absorption. However you might consider WHY you have a magnesium deficiency and constipation. I believed celiac disease and food allergies, esp. dairy, caused my constipation. However after eliminating gluten, dairy, soy... -
Felidae: I raise my tomatoes in a pot on our postage stamp sized deck. My husband doesn't really like tomatoes. So 2-3 tomato plants in a patio pot grow enough tomatoes for my nightly salads and several bags for the freezer. I use frozen tomatoes in spaghetti and tomato sauce dishes during the rest of the year. Tiffany: I'll trade you some lettuce or...

Hi Tiffany: I also love gardening! We've been raising our own fruits and vegies for years, but I especially appreciate homegrown, organic produce now. This year we're growing snap peas, assorted lettuces, chard, spinach, dinosaur and purple stem kale, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, broccolli and leeks in our vegie gardens. Our 'fruit' includes strawberries...

ARCHIVED Antacids
burdee replied to Derek Borckmann's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Read "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" by Jonathon Wright, MD. Many celiacs get reflux, because celiac damaged intestines compromises the normal digestive process. Since intestines aren't digesting well, the stomach doesn't empty normally. So the contents can reflux. However reflux does NOT necessarily mean excess stomach acid. Many people with digestive... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
burdee replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Constipation was also a lifelong problem for me. I was 'regular' in that I had a daily bowel movement, but always had hard stools, unless I took copious laxatives, which also gave me excruciating cramps. I learned to take magnesium and Vitamin C daily to just have 'regular' daily movements, but never soft enough to prevent hemorrhoid pain. Eliminating... -
ARCHIVED The New Rice Yogurt
burdee replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for posting that. UNFORTUNATELY I have a diagnosed allergy to cane sugar (evaporated cane juice) which they use in all their flavors. Nevertheless I wrote to them and requested that they consider making an unsweetened variety. I MISS YOGURT, which I gave up 3 years ago after my dairy/casein allergy diagnosis. SIGH BURDEE -
ARCHIVED Which Lab, Which Tests For Other Food Intolerances?
burdee replied to JamiD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My naturopath used ELISA (blood) IgG mediated delayed and IgE mediate immediate reaction allergy blood test to diagnose my egg and cane sugar allergies. He sent that specimum to USBioTek Labs, which I highly recommend, because they have good quality control, which eliminates results that indicate you have many allergies to foods you never eat. I also tested... -
(1) When you finally get up the nerve to tell your doc about your embarassing symptoms of gas, bloating, constipation and excruciating gut pain, she tells you "Oh, that's just IBS". Everybody your age gets IBS." (2) When you ask how to treat IBS, she hands you a diet sheet which recommends you eat more fiber, but especially WHEAT bran. (3) When you...

ARCHIVED I'm Going To Give Up Eating
burdee replied to isiskingdom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recommend you get tested for specific food allergies with an ELISA blood test. I used to hurt EVERY time I ate and wanted to postpone eating as long as possible. Until you actually KNOW what causes your symptoms, you'll get suggestions from everybody whose diets and restrictions worked for THEM, but not necessarily for you. With celiac disease and 4 other... -
ARCHIVED Suffolk County Celiac Vendor Fair
burdee replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Deb: After organizing and coordinating our local celiac disease Awareness Walk and Gluten Free Food Fair for the past 2 years, I'm considering doing a big gluten free EAT event in Seattle next year. We have lots of restaurants with gluten-free menus or entrees. Seattle already has an annual 'Bite of Seattle'. Other local towns have a 'Taste of Edmonds... -
ARCHIVED I'm Going To Give Up Eating
burdee replied to isiskingdom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since my diagnosis for celiac disease 3 years ago, I also was diagnosed with milk, soy, egg and cane sugar allergies. I also was tested for bacterial imbalance which revealed I had an abundance of bad bacterial (esp. Klebsiella) and NO bifidobacteria (good bacteria). During those 3 years I had recurrent symptoms even as I eliminated all my allergy sources... -
ARCHIVED I Am 50 A Woman - Need To Exchange Info And Support
burdee replied to daniela's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm celiac (gluten intolerant) and allergic to dairy, soy, eggs and cane sugar. I eat 2-3 vegan meals a day. I usually eat one meat (fish or poultry) meal in the evening, but keep my breakfast and lunch vegan. For breakfast I eat peanut butter on gluten-free toast with fresh fruit or gluten-free hot cereal with almond milk, almond butter and fresh fruit...
