ARCHIVED Self Diagnose Celiac- How To Get A Thyroid Test?
mysecretcurse replied to Serversymptoms's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It definitely wouldn't hurt to get your thyroid checked, but the problem could likely be related to gluten. My thyroid shut down for awhile at the peak of my disease before I really figured out what was happening with my body, the autoimmune reaction to gluten basically destroyed it and it took a long time to get it back functioning properly again. Lugols... -
ARCHIVED How Does Your Family Cope?
mysecretcurse replied to hrly169's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My friends and family are very supportive. It infuriates me when I read all these posts on here about unsupportive family members. Or ones that just don't get it. Mine took a little while to get that that "just a little bit" DOES matter, although I had to beat it into their heads for awhile. I'm not sure they believed in celiac at first but after my mom saw... -
ARCHIVED Can Something Be Gluten-free But Still Contain Wheat?
mysecretcurse replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Then it's not gluten free either. I wouldn't personally put anything that came from wheat in my body. I don't care how much it had been distilled. -
ARCHIVED Having Stronger Longer Lasting Reactions To Gluten
mysecretcurse replied to szelisk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I disagree with some of that ^ Specifically about meat being unhealthy or toxic because the animals are tortured beings. I was a vegetarian for 3 years and used to think that too, but in the end I think meat is just meat, I don't think it's toxic, and if you have emotional guilt for eating it, that could certainly cause you stress.. but the meat itself, I... -

ARCHIVED How Careful Do I Need To Be?
mysecretcurse replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do use the same pans, but I scrub them really well. I never thought about wooden utensils. Hmm.. Having a gluten free household is not always possible, unfortunately. I'm sort of in the same situation as you. All I can say is try and do what I do, clean as much as possible. I do have my own cutting board and spatulas but I use the same silverware ... -
ARCHIVED Husband Having Trouble Understanding
mysecretcurse replied to purplelion's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would chew someone out for that. This is a medical condition. Tell her to do some research and educate herself before she runs off at the mouth and makes herself look like a fool. I'm so glad my family isn't like this. To the OP- what DOES your hubby suggest you do? I mean, what is his take on it? I don't get it. You say he's seen you sick. Does... -
ARCHIVED My List Of Ailments Has Just Increased..again
mysecretcurse replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hear you. It's okay, don't feel like a wuss. I have a huge list of problems as well, and it seems like the only way I can keep them under control is by living the strictest life ever. SO many things bother me or make me sick it's ridiculous. I definitely feel your frustration. Just keep trying to heal, it's all we can do. *hug* -
ARCHIVED I Didn't Realize Some People Cant Be Around Gluten
mysecretcurse replied to Raynee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You will probably be okay having it in the house if you're careful. I'd be more worried about the husband who would think you were "crazy" for having a serious health condition. I live with two gluten eating people and I just am careful. I wipe the counters a lot, make sure all pots and pans are washed extremely clean (like, 5 times in boiling water... -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Been Glutened And Not Know It?
mysecretcurse replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You were probably okay. Not everyone gets *shudder* crumbs on their butter. I can only speak for myself, but there is no "silent glutening" in my case. If I get gluten in me, I get sick, no matter how small the amount. -
ARCHIVED Self Diagnosed Stalker Thanks You
mysecretcurse replied to eeyorelvr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for sharing. You sound like an almost identical case to my brother. He has been having problems for a long time (Colitis) which I strongly suspect has to do with gluten, as he has a lot of similar health problems to myself such as being VERY skinny, skin problems, stomach problems, etc. But he still is chowing down the gluten since he tested negative... -
ARCHIVED How The Hell Am I Supposed To Travel?
mysecretcurse replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm also planning on doing a BIG backpacking adventure to south america at some point before I turn 30. Rock on. I thought you might like to read this thread I posted when I got back from my last big adventure in South East Asia: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...ackpacking+asia ^Hopefully that gives you some hope. It's not always... -
ARCHIVED I'm Living Inside A Box
mysecretcurse replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I so understand how you feel. Reading your rant was like reading my own thoughts. I feel like I'm a prisoner in life. So many things.. the jobs I can work, the places I can go, what I can do, it's all effected by celiac and I also think about food a lot. But at the same time, I can tell you to have faith. There were things I thought I wouldn't be able... -
ARCHIVED Tried Regular Oatmeal Twice
mysecretcurse replied to sixtytwo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. I consider oats the same as wheat and wouldn't trust gluten free oats any more than the regular. I ate oats once and got really sick and after that I would never do it again. Exact same reaction as to wheat. -
ARCHIVED My Health Depends On It
mysecretcurse replied to magpie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
He does sound like a bit of a jerk, no offense. And honestly, the whole thing about him eating the bread and brushing the crumbs out of his beard made me want to throw up. It doesn't sound like you are in a good situation at all and I'm sorry. At least he threw out the toaster.. but still.. All I can say is I personally wouldn't tolerate this. I'm... -
ARCHIVED Has Any One Experienced More Effects From Caffeine After Going gluten-free?
mysecretcurse replied to mattathayde's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, most definitely. Caffeine effects me a lot. In fact, since going gluten free it seems EVERYTHING effects me more than it used to. -
For whatever reason I just don't trust taco bell. Cross contamination is what would worry me. You guys have really ate the tostada with no reaction? That's pretty tempting. I used to love the tostadas! Then again, I could just make a better one at home.

ARCHIVED Craving A Candy Bar!
mysecretcurse replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What the heck? The last package of skittles I looked at said wheat right on the label. I can't remember where it was.. I wonder if it was when I was in Cambodia. If so it might make sense, because M&M's in Cambodia contain wheat and the ones in the USA are gluten free. Weird! I just assumed that American skittles and starburst had gluten all this time... -
ARCHIVED Becoming A Chemist And Frustrated!
mysecretcurse replied to DinaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can relate a lot, especially to: I'm going through this atm and have gone through it many times. It sucks so bad. For me, I always start thinking I am developing some other food intolerances and then nope, later on I usually find out there was gluten in something. Usually something that shouldn't have gluten in it at all. So annoying. I... -
Dang. I think if I ate a piece of bread I'd honestly probably die.
-
From my understanding, nothing at taco bell is gluten free. Sorry. Even the things they say are safe, I would not trust to be safe at all.

I react to gluten in a variety of unpleasant ways. Gut reaction (bloating, gas, pain, constipation): about 2 days Mental reaction (depression, anxiety, irritability): 2-3 days Skin reaction (the WORST by far, I get big red extremely painful cystic acne/Dh(?) on my face and scalp)2-3 WEEKS and sometimes a month to go away completely. That is why I...

ARCHIVED Ive Had It With This!
mysecretcurse replied to Firegirl43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gosh Im so sorry I understand how you feel too. I am gluten sensitive but it wasn't until awhile being gluten free that I began to notice how much dairy bothers me too. My dairy sensitivity is tolerable, I mean dairy doesn't cause me the painful bright red cystic rash on my face and scalp that gluten does (its not pretty) but it does cause me a lot of unpleasant... -
ARCHIVED Sigh.. Back In The Battle Again..
mysecretcurse replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just eat soooo little, and I check everything I eat. I don't get it. I'm on only raw foods again for now.. sucks. Seems that when I fast on raw smoothies is the only time I get better. -
ARCHIVED Did Any One See This?
mysecretcurse replied to mattathayde's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Seconded^ (great about the research) I read a study the other day that said teens who skipped breakfast lost their virginity earlier. I was like wow.. this is what they are doing studies on when there are people dying from illness out there?
