ARCHIVED Bloody Diarrhea When Glutened
GFinDC replied to whoknewafter25years's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Yes, I get blood in stool from gluten and dairy. It doesn't last three weeks for me but long enough. Dairy doesn't do it right away but if I eat it for a week, oops. -
ARCHIVED Just Stumped The Nutritionist
GFinDC replied to Chaff's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well good, we aim to offend ! (not) Good on you the sausage worked the 2nd time. Now you have to decipher what else you may have eaten that day or the day before that may have caused you to be sick. Or not, as it could just be healing turbulence as was also suggested by IH. Which is very possible. It's great they are stocking gluten-free products... -
ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination
GFinDC replied to eleanorj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can scrub your cast iron with steel wool and then and boil hot soapy water in it to clean it. Of course you need to re-season it then. If you are concerned about bread, try some Mission brand (or other) corn tortillas instead. There are also gluten-free rice wraps available. Most of them need to be heated with a little steam so they bend without... -
ARCHIVED Jillian From Uk Not Diagnosed Celiac.
GFinDC replied to jhol's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jillian, I don't know if you have DH or not. I do know DH is not always the same. Some people have rashes that start on knees or elbows or other places. And sometimes it is on the scalp, back, etc. It is not always the full blown worst condition of it when it starts either. It can start small and progress and get worse over time. People with the... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gluten Sensitivity
GFinDC replied to vnm07's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The testing for celiacs is not foolproof, so it makes sense to put him back on gluten-free full time for a few months. There has to be a reason he improved the first time right? -
ARCHIVED How Does This Happen?

ARCHIVED Peanut Allergy & Vaccines
GFinDC replied to RiceGuy's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Riceguy, This is all very interesting to me. I think your link about the Quercetin maybe helping prevent anaphylactic reactions is quite something. The argument about the vaccines being related somehow to peanut allergies makes sense to me. It has to be caused by something after all. And that seems like a likely cause. Thanks for the info! Open... -
ARCHIVED Just Stumped The Nutritionist
GFinDC replied to Chaff's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Chaff, If you are trying to add/test foods, it is much better to add a whole food. Sausage is a combination of ground pork and spices when homemade, and often preservatives and who knows what else when it is a processed version. Instead you should try adding plain pork chops, cooked by yourself at home, not at a restraunt. Or plain bacon, or plain... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Eliminated Food With Dyes(Yellow#5, 6 Etc).....
GFinDC replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just curious if removing starchy vegetables makes a difference also? If you go by the glycemic index starchy veggies like white potatoes are worse than sugar. The Harvard chart lists many more foods, this is just a snippet. Open Original Shared Link FOOD Glycemic index (glucose = 100) Serving size (grams) Glycemic load per... -
ARCHIVED Jillian From Uk Not Diagnosed Celiac.
GFinDC replied to jhol's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jillian, I replied to your other thread also. Anyway, celiac can affect your brain and nerves in a couple ways. Mal-absorption of vitamins can affect nerve function and cause symptoms. Gluten ataxia is another example. In Gluten ataxia brain cells are damaged and people lose motor control and have difficulty walking. Gluten peptides are supposedly... -
The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for the neat article Shroomie. It sounds like CC is getting pretty creative with the rebound effort. Art projects and shipping container malls. Really sounds kind of fun. So now we know wher you hang ot on Friday nights, the Smash Palace? "Smash Palace, selling boutique beers, is a mobile pub made from two buses, scaffolding and a shipping container... -
ARCHIVED Help--Recently Diagnosed--Mostly Vegetarian Eater......gluten Free Diet Panic
GFinDC replied to sofismom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Sofismom, Spices are usually ok, as long as they are just one spice, not a blend or seasoning mix. McCormick brand has a good rep for spices, but same thing, you need to verify blends or mixes. Or just don't use them. You can spend a lot of time in the grocery store reading ingredients on processed foods, or you can switch to a whole foods... -
ARCHIVED New With Many Symptoms
GFinDC replied to jhol's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jill, Welcome to the forum and to the year 2013! I agree with Karen, 4 weeks is plenty of time to get your test results. Getting a paper copy is very handy for your own records. Did they test your thyroid also? And vitamin and mineral levels? Blood glucose? Those are all basic things to have tested. Regardless of how your celiac test... -
ARCHIVED Hello--New & Scared
GFinDC replied to Michlootz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Michlootz, The endoscopy should include taking biopsy samples, 5 to 8. The biopsy samples are usually sent to a lab for review. So the results can take a week or 2. It is usually ok to start the gluten-free diet while waiting for the results, but there have been times when the results were lost and the tests had to be redone. That's unusual tho.... -
ARCHIVED Pest Resistant Molecules In Wheat
GFinDC replied to kareng's topic in Publications & Publicity
Seems like the innate immune response is showing up more in research about celiac these days. I've seen it mentioned in regards to Crohn's disease also. Seems like the Crohn's info was something to the affect of a granulatomous (sp) like immune reaction. I am not sure if they are saying that GMO's are causing this innate response or not? Well, it's interesting... -
ARCHIVED Sugar And Fruit Problems
GFinDC replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi CM, I think the first priority is to eliminate the glutenings. While those are going on it's hard to tell what other food reactions might be. Until those stop for a couple weeks your system will be a bit "messed up" immune system and digestion wise. -
The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry about the cikvebs Jestgar. OK, since Jest brought up resurrections stories, got to throw a couple real ones in. Too late for Vinchants sermon though, sorry. Ok, so many years ago, on a ground far away, I had cabin on a rise in a ravine between two steep hills. Wild white trilliums bloomed in the yard in the spring. I may have seen a Rocky... -

What do you mean we can't eat red velvet donuts ?!? Just kidding! But licking the cell phone pic, eww! At least nobody will be eating Twinkies anymore! Thanks for the post Adelaide. It's easy to forget how it feels to be starting out on the gluten-free diet as a newbie. I mean really, who would want to remember that anyway? It sure gets... -
ARCHIVED 24Y Male And Under Weight Bmi 16 What To Eat?
GFinDC replied to GlutenBoy1986's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey hey, don't forget dumpster diving at your local college at end of the fall or winter session too. College students throw out lots of stuff rather than move it. The poor things don't have cars sometimes so they just toss their furniture and stuff in the dumpster. It's very sad! Not food so much, but furnishings, rugs etc. -
ARCHIVED New With Questions
GFinDC replied to breiec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Breiec, Welcome to the forum! The good news is you now know why you have been sick. So you can start on the gluten-free diet and begin getting better. Don't be upset if it takes a few months to get past some of the symptoms. Actually it can take a year or more to recover. But everyone has their own body and timelines vary a lot. Some starting... -

ARCHIVED Hello--New & Scared
GFinDC replied to Michlootz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Michlootz, Welcome to the forum! Doctors used to think children outgrew celiac disease, but we now know that is wrong. So if you had it 20 years ago you still have it today. It just doesn't go away. Sometimes children do have a period of reduced symptoms for a while, and that's why they used to think celiac would go away. But the symptoms always...
