Hi Shollie, You might get more help if you post in the Dermatitis Herpetiformis section of the forum. https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ You can also report the thread and ask a mod to move it to the DH subsection if you'd like.

ARCHIVED What To Do After Accidentally Eating Gluten?
GFinDC replied to GabrielleM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Shanti, You could try some Milk of Magnesia to help move things out. I think eating more rather than less is helpful. If you have lots of gluten free food in your gut it can kind of thin-out the gluteney stuff in theory. The last thing you want is to not eat and have all that gluten hanging out in your gut. Pepto can help coat the gut and hopefully... -
ARCHIVED Do you eat casein?
GFinDC replied to sella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I ate dairy with no problem for decades CL. It wasn't until I developed celiac disease that I started having problems with dairy. So, yeah it is somehow related. I think it is just an additional food intolerance like any others that people can develop when they get celiac disease. Dairy causes me pain and bleeding. Not just the typical lactose intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Do you eat casein?
GFinDC replied to sella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid all dairy. It is certainly possible to develop an immune response to any protein, including casein. Usually though people new to the gluten-free diet are advised to avoid dairy because of the lactose intolerance that can happen in celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED sibo right ribs still hurt
GFinDC replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't remember if I told you about my sisters rib problem. She had a rib pop out of joint. It caused her pain for a long time. She made several trips to chiropractors and eventually found one who popped the rib back in place. Boom! Problem solved! She wasn't doing anything particularly strenuous when the rib popped out of joint either. It really... -
ARCHIVED Corn-Free, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Sugar-Free Bread
GFinDC replied to William1966's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi William, Does she have an IgE type immune reaction or an IgG type immune reaction (food intolerance)? There is a big difference between them. IgE immune reactions can cause anaphylaxis, which is the big danger in them. IgG immune reactions don't have that danger. There is some testing for IgG type reactions that is not reliable, like fecal... -
@egs1707 Getting better from celiac damage isn't as simple as taking a bunch of pills (drugs) and following the latest exercise craze, whatever that might be. To recover from celiac you actually have to expend some personal effort and make some changes to your diet that many people may not even consider under usual circumstances. Yeah, lots of people...

ARCHIVED Bob and Ruth's Travel Tours - Has anyone tried it?
GFinDC replied to Victoria Prad's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Victoria, I've never done any gluten-free tours myself. But it seems like several people have said good things about gluten-free eating in Italy. I seem to remember some people saying certain cruise lines were good for gluten-free eating too. I think in general the European countries are thought to be somewhat ahead of the USA in gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Been gluten-free and still feeling gross
GFinDC replied to bekka12's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I agree mostly with not eating chocolate. Most chocolate has both dairy and soy in it. So it is those 2 ingredients that I am really avoiding, not the chocolate itself. There are some chocolate products without those ingredients. like Enjoy Life brand chocolate chips, and Bakers Secret Dark chocolate bars for baking, or Hershey's pure cocoa powder. Also... -
ARCHIVED Celiac & neurological symptoms
GFinDC replied to Lukas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lukas, I suppose you have read about gluten ataxia? Gluten ataxia affects the brain and can cause lots of symptoms. Gluten ataxia is associated with celiac disease. Lack of vitamins and minerals can damage many parts and functions of our bodes. Celiac disease impairs the ability to absorb nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fats) that our bodies... -
ARCHIVED Sjogren's + false negatives
GFinDC replied to Eclara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The University of Chicago recommends a 12 week week gluten challenge before doing the blood antibody tests. I may have to report you! Just kidding! Your tests should have been negative if you were gluten-free before them for a couple of years. You may fall into the vast pool of undiagnosed celiacs out there who will never know if they really have... -
ARCHIVED Fecal Anti-Gliadin High
GFinDC replied to Aspirant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Aspirant, Welcome to the forum! I wonder if you know what tests your doctor did for celiac antibodies? There are several tests, and they usually have a range of values for positive and negative results. I hope you were eating gluten before your antibody testing for 12 weeks? If you were already gluten-free when you got tested, the test results... -
ARCHIVED Silent celiac sudden poop problem (maybe tmi)?
GFinDC replied to existnt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi existnt, Welcome to the forum! Here is a link to a stool color list. Open Original Shared Link You could be having a gluten issue. Or it could be something else, Have you had your ttg IgA antibodies tested? That might tell you if your are getting gluten in your diet somehow. The other thing that comes to mind is possibly Crohn...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Still losing weight
GFinDC replied to Fbmb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd think if you are losing weight then that is an indicator you are doing something wrong in your diet. Not having a gut that is in perfect shape to absorb nutrients means you may need to up your calorie count and include as much high quality protein as possible. Empty calories from gluten-free processed foods are not real helpful nutrition. If you put... -
ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
GFinDC replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jm34, Recovery from celiac damage can take a 1 to a year and 1/2 or more. We are talking about a stubbed toe or something minor like that. The immune system doesn't stop attacking your gut and body just a couple hours after stopping gluten. The immune reaction can keep going for weeks or months. It takes time and a clean, gluten-free diet to stop... -
ARCHIVED chex and fruity pebbles, safe or not
GFinDC replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good to know, thanks PDM! I've had one of the Natures Path cereals in the past, and it was fine for me. When I got the Natures Path cereal, it was in big plastic bad, instead of a box. I think it's easier for the whales to swallow the bags or something. -
ARCHIVED Sarsons Malt Vinegar
GFinDC replied to jonniecheesecake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think you've got it right JMG, why take a risk? We have enough minefields to avoid as it is, without taking a chance walking into one on purpose. There was some controversy over the USA gluten-free labeling scheme also. For one thing, it took years longer to be decided and approved than it was supposed to. And the amount of gluten at 20 PPM is still... -
ARCHIVED Sarsons Malt Vinegar
GFinDC replied to jonniecheesecake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am fairly sure that in the USA the FDA rules say if the product is made from a gluten ingredient (wheat, rye, barley) it cannot be labeled gluten-free here. So malt vinegar (made from barley) cannot be labeled gluten-free in the USA. I found something called coconut aminos (Coconut Secret brand) that is an alternative to soy sauce which is gluten... -

Thanks Peter, The corn Chex box will be opened pretty soon then! -
ARCHIVED Experiences with diagnosis
GFinDC replied to ysali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi ysali, Yes, members have posted before about having both negative biopsies and positive bloodwork/antibodies. Celiac is not an easy disease to diagnose sometimes. The small intestine is about the size of a tennis court in surface area. So it's possible a biopsy could miss a bad patch and hit a good patch of gut lining. Our guts are constantly... -
Hi robbiedt, You can find some information on testing on the U of Chicago celiac center site. But short answer, the celiac testing we have now is not perfect yet. It gives false negatives sometimes and false positives sometimes. Not often, but it does happen. Also, some people don't even make much IgA antibodies, so the IgA based tests are no use... -
ARCHIVED anti gliadin IgA
GFinDC replied to karilynn85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, brain wear and tear, that sure explains it! I suppose that's what boxers get too! I hope you got copies of your MRI scans to show another nuerologist who is familiar with celiac disease damage. I am not sure if they have a blood test for gluten ataxia yet, but maybe it's worth asking him about. You can read up on this Dr. Hadjivassiliou... -
Hi Mily, Maybe your thyroid is out of whack? Might be worth checking on. That being said, I was really hungry for a while after going gluten-free. It's actually a good thing for many of us to gain weight after going gluten-free. Often times, people are undernourished with untreated celiac and need extra calories and nutrients to heal. If you are...

Hi EGS1707, You could try some avocado for protein. And peanut butter. Maybe not together though, ewww! It's pretty easy to make guacamole, and it goes well with corn chips if you can eat them, or on sandwiches etc. I don't know what kind of sport you are doing, but it might be wise to reduce strenuous exercize for a while. Your body is...

@ Lacey, Hi Lacey, I had pretty nasty hayfever some years ago, before I went gluten-free. My allergies started about 40 years prior to going gluten-free. I took allergy shots for 6 months at one point. I think they did help some. What really helped me allergy-wise though was going gluten-free. My hayfever went way minor after being gluten...
