  1. Hi Legu, I think it's best to be diagnosed before going gluten-free. Some people find it easier to stick to the gluten-free diet if they have a formal diagnosis. But it's an individual decision and you have the right to go gluten-free anytime you want! If you do decide to go ahead and go gluten-free without the testing, try to stick to the gluten...
  2. Hi Jon, It is very possible you had celiac disease for years. The testing for celiac is not perfect yet, we are still waiting on the tricorder from Star Trek to appear. Rats! Celiac can cause damage to the gut lining (villi) that absorb nutrients. So fatigue is a common symptom. I think a good multivitamin might help some, just make sure it...
  3. Hi Cboray, You should be able to find Betaine HCL at health stores. Or online at places like Vitacost and many others. The big river company probably sells it also. You can get gluten-free bread, like UDI's or others at some grocery stores. I buy Udi's sometimes, but mostly I use Mission brand corn tortillas as bread. I eat Quaker brand rice...
  4. Cell apoptosis can cause elevated liver enzymes. Cell apoptosis is when cells die in the body. The dying cells can exude harmful chemicals into the blood stream. Those chemicals can cause raised liver enzymes. The liver results should return to normal after being on the gluten-free diet a while. For more and better info, search for cell apoptosis...
  5. Hi Cboray, Welcome to the forum! :) I hope we can help you. I found some info on CVID on Wiki that might explain some of your symptoms. See the bold section of text below. They (WIKI) say that CVID can cause celiac like symptoms. But the symptoms don't improve on a gluten-free diet. I found it interesting that they say CVID can lead to Hashimoto...
  6. Hi, It doesn't look like the you got the DGP IgG or DGP IgA tests? The test should include a normal range and a high range as well. Those ranges vary by the lab and are a guide to the interpretation of the test results.
  7. Hi, Here is what Mayo clinic has to say about IBD: Open Original Shared Link Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves chronic inflammation of all or part of your digestive tract. IBD primarily includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Both usually involve severe diarrhea, pain, fatigue and weight loss. IBD can be debilitating and sometimes...
  8. Regular beer can cause as celiac reaction. You can try gluten-free beer though and see how that goes.
  9. HI Zachm, Reaction times can vary quite a bit. I used to have reactions within 30 minutes, but I am not sure how long it would take now. I have not eaten gluten intentionally for years. I think it would be an hour or so though. My GI system is in much better shape and not as irritated all the time so it doesn't go haywire so fast. You would...
  10. Hi Legu, I don't know anything about fordyce spots. I do know about celiac disease testing though. If you plan on finding out if you have celiac disease, you should not stop eating gluten yet. It is a bad idea to stop or cut down on gluten before the testing is done, Usually the testing is a simple blood test for immune system antibodies to gliaden...
  11. Hi Ironic, Have you been tested for ulcers? They can cause chronic yet varying pain. Might be worth checking on.
  12. Thanks for explaining cstark. I hope you are getting something safe and effective from them. There are no FDA regs on supplements so the ingredients are not restricted like they are for medical drugs. I saw something a while back where they found illegal drugs in some weightloss supplements. If the supplement makes people feel better, they are likely...
  13. Hi, If you have been gluten-free for 4 months there is not much point in doing an endoscopy to check for celiac disease. You really shouldn't stop eating gluten until all the celiac disease testing is completed. I think the minimum that is recommended is 2 weeks of eating gluten prior to an endoscopy for celiac. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org...
  14. Hi Kttardisgirl, IgG is a type of antibody that your immune system makes. The way they term the test is a little different than what I have seen. But it it is most like an AGA IgG test. AGA standing for antigliaden antibody. AGA IgG is a test for immune system antibodies to gliaden, a protein in wheat gluten. It looks like you had a pretty high...
  15. Ok, curious, who is "they" ? And how did they determine you have a metal toxicity? Detox programs are quite the "in" thing in some places. I don't think there is much to them generally myself. I know there are some metal toxicity detox treatments that doctors do. But it seems to me that many people promote detox programs as a quick way to make a buck...
  16. Hi, Karen is right. You can have food intolerances to any food. And they may develop as a side affect of having uncontrolled celiac disease. That doesn't mean though they are exactly the same reactions as in celiac disease. If they were actually cross-reactive foods, many of us would have those reactions to the same foods, and our symptoms would...
  17. Hi Chicosalt, I can tell you about myself. I had some nerve issues that resolved and some that didn't. I had muscle twitching that resolved after a while on the gluten-free diet. I had sleep issues and anxiety issues that resolved in time also. I still have trouble swallowing food at times though. But that's better than it used to be. I do...
  18. Hi Divergent, I suggest holding off on the other testing also. You'll probably need an endoscopy to finalize the celiac disease diagnosis. Hopefully other health issues you have now will disappear once you are diagnosed and go gluten-free. Disappear as in slowly fade away. Healing from celiac disease damage can take months to years. I was kinda...
  19. Thanks for sharing EMK. Quite a few people have reports mental/emotional symptoms from gluten exposure. I used to get angry for no apparent reason myself. Trouble sleeping didn't help that either. Anyway, welcome to the forum and I hope things are better for you now.
  20. Cave, what's cave? We don't cave around here! I have problems with all nightshades. Tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and eggplant are all trouble makers. They cause D, some pain, and bloating at times. Otherwise they are really fun! I sometimes eat a little of them, but only if they are in a another food that for some reason I eat. More than a little...
  21. Yep, nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant) are a problem for some of us. Actually many people have a problem with potatoes if they eat too many of them. Nightshades contain chemicals called alkaloids that are hard for our bodies to process. That's why they say not to eat the eyes of potatoes. They have a more concentrated level of alkaloid...
  22. Hi Spencer, Going gluten-free is really exciting fun eh? Not! When I went gluten-free it took about 6 weeks for my gut to stop spasming. I could look at my belly and see the skin moving. So things don't heal on a dime. It takes time for the body to stop attacking itself. It seems like it wouldn't but the immune system is used to fighting deadly...
  23. Hi Richard, I moved your thread to the pre-diagnosis testing section of the forum. It seems like a better place for it than the tech help section. You may get more responses to it in the pre-diagnosis section.
  24. Here as article about a couple enzymes that are reputed to help digest gluten. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Open Original Shared Link A food-grade enzyme preparation with modest gluten detoxification properties. Open Original Shared Link1, Open Original Shared Link, Open Original Shared...
  25. Hi ws19817, One research study found it can take up to 18 months for some celiacs to heal the gut. Some people don't completely heal in that time though. Antibiotics are something to be avoided IMHO. Celiacs have a damaged gut at the beginning and the last thing you want to do is kill off all the bacteria that help you digest foods. DGP IgG...
