ARCHIVED Turkey Breast For Thanksgiving
GFinDC replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The squash sounds good! Mashed sweet taters with peanut butter and a squished bannaner is good for a sweet version. Add a little cinnamon for seasonal effect. Psyillium husks are another way to thicken things instead of flour. -
ARCHIVED How Much Can One Person Take? I've Reached My Limit...
GFinDC replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You know what? I bet you aren't the only person who has that issue. The people at the clinic prolly see lots of people every day and some of them are going to have a similar issue. So they are possibly more understanding than you might expect. I wouldn't send the email to the HR department at this point. I'd give the clinic people a chance to do the... -
ARCHIVED To Fry Or Not To Fry, That Is The Question ? Turkey, That Is.
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Good to hear Waitn4Dave! I'd rather avoid the soy oil too. I'll have to find something without it. Fried chicken doesn't sound too bad as something to use the fryer for later. Yummy sounds good to me! -
ARCHIVED Help With Dutch Oven?
GFinDC replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Those look like Corning glass cookware to me. I have some also but more of a pinkish red color. They work fine on the stove top. Fairly easy to clean also, for most things. I think both Sears and Kmart sell Corningware. But lots of places sell it. Open Original Shared Link -
Yep, right you are John. 100 years ago the people ate real foods. Now most people seem to eat factory foods. Its not a great change in some ways.

ARCHIVED I Officialy Hate My Gluten Free Bakery
GFinDC replied to John Burlingame's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
That's great John, the bakery. It really seems to me like some of the gluten-free companies just don't get it. Using dairy and soy and tater starch in lots of their products. Enjoy Life products is one exception that is good about avoiding the more common problem ingredients. Some of the adjustment to gluten-free is plain old time and experience. Weeding... -
ARCHIVED To Fry Or Not To Fry, That Is The Question ? Turkey, That Is.
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Our local Kroger's sells smoked turkeys Karen, so that is an option. Don't have to worry about burning down a $ 2million buck house here tho. But doing the frying outside on the cement seems like a good idea. Sure will get the cat posse interested in a hurry. Thanks! Safety sounds like a good idear to me Laura. Stuffing separate, check! Thanks... -
ARCHIVED To Fry Or Not To Fry, That Is The Question ? Turkey, That Is.
GFinDC posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
OK, they are selling turkey fryers all over the place it seems. Is it a good idea to fry a turkey? Anyone have experience good or bad in turkey frying? Is it really much faster than oven baking/roasting? Do you still stuff a turkey that is going to be fried? Just looking for tips as I am thinking of getting a turkey fryer and trying it out. They seem... -
ARCHIVED I Officialy Hate My Gluten Free Bakery
GFinDC replied to John Burlingame's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks Karen, maybe John 's bakery could use it. I've moved away from that area, so not going to that bakery again. Your turkey gobbler dancing reminds me of Thanksgiving. Think I'll start a thread on frying tooikies. Never tried it and looking for tips. And in another off-topic rant, he fades from the thread... fading... fadin, fadddddd.... -
I think that was the last stage b4 the pod people hatched wasn't it? Kidding. Congrats on the improvement!

ARCHIVED I Officialy Hate My Gluten Free Bakery
GFinDC replied to John Burlingame's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi John, I agree with you, soy sucks! I had plenty of problems because of eating soy. Karen would prolly say I still have plenty of problems... I know one gluten-free bakery that uses a soy oil spray on their baking sheets to prevent sticking. So most of their baked goods have soy listed as an ingredient. I asked them about the soy in all their... -
I went soy free because I was passing out randomly. And my joints were sore. I didn't know soy was the problem, but it was one of the things I hadn't eliminated from my diet yet so I got rid of it. And over 4 weeks or so my symptoms cleared up. So it wasn't an instant recovery. More of a slow improvement. Now if I eat a little soy in small amounts...

ARCHIVED Books To Read With Non-Celiac Child?
GFinDC replied to nanderson85's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's another one. Actually, Deb Simpson has versions with different kids names. For a while she was custom printing them with kid's names that were requested. I think she might still do that do that but for an extra fee. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED I Think My Doctor Is Wrong?
GFinDC replied to janedoe's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Janedoe, Maybe it makes sense to try some food eliminations? Some of the foods that seem to cause problems for some of us are nightshades, soy, dairy, eggs, and corn. There are probably others I am not thinking of right now. Anyhow, some of the other food intolerances can cause fainting symptoms for some people. An elimination diet can help you... -
How Long Does The Vomiting Last?
GFinDC replied to coquimama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, So it seems he has been gluten-free since 25-Sep-14. That's less than a month right? It's not unusual IMHO for symptoms to continue for months. The immune system has to wind down from being on constant alert mode. When I was new to the gluten-free diet I used to vomit sometimes too. It could be his stomach is gassy and the pressure is making...- 24 replies

ARCHIVED Peanut M&ms
GFinDC replied to Debgfree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep CAP6, lots of questionable stuff in the candy bars. It's probably safer to go to some kind of health food store or such and look for more natural candies with fewer chemicals etc. Open Original Shared Link has some simpler options I think. -
ARCHIVED Family's Attempt At gluten-free Thanksgiving
GFinDC replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've heard of a pepsi can in the turkey. That should work, or orange soda. Great that she is trying to make it work for you though! Oh-oh, why not gluten-free beer in the turkey? -
ARCHIVED New To Celiac And Need Help
GFinDC replied to GODSCHILD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Godschild, Welcome to the forum! Many of us have been in a similar situation. When the gut is damaged it from antibodies things can go kinda haywire. One thing that happens is the villi are destroyed, which impairs the ability to absorb nutrients as you described. Another thing that happens is the gut environment that lots of bacteria call home... -
ARCHIVED Just Did Elimination Diet - Are These Symptoms Indicative Of Ncgi?
GFinDC replied to SiandAshs Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, They probably won't find Hashimoto's except by testing for the TPO antibodies. There may be a genetic link for Hashimoto's. A number of people on the forum have reported having Hashimoto's as well as celiac disease. The linked wiki article has more info. I thought of it because you mentioned throat irritation after eating gluten. The TPO antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Just Did Elimination Diet - Are These Symptoms Indicative Of Ncgi?
GFinDC replied to SiandAshs Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There's an AI condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is associated with celiac disease. It is an autoimmune attack on the thyroid. People with it can have throat swelling and pain. Just something to consider. They test for it by checking TPO antibodies. -
