ARCHIVED Having To Poop Every Few Minutes, Kind Of Embarasing
GFinDC replied to 3bears2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
There's a good chance you are eating something that is irritating your gut. Might be time to simplify your diet for a while. Check all your vitamins and meds for gluten too. -
ARCHIVED Teen Newly Diagnosed
GFinDC replied to Tgilman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Recovery from celiac disease damage to the gut can take a while. Months to over a year is not unusual. During the early months of recovery the gut is still irritated and sensitive. So many foods may make her sick just because her gut is already irritated. So it can be helpful to try and eliminate hard to digest foods from her diet for a while... -
Hi Ch88, You are right and sorta not right on the testing. If you are talking about celiac disease testing you are right, the tests aren't reliable if you are already gluten-free. If you are talking about an allergy test, the tests should work regardless. Well, work as well as they would anyway. Some types of allergy tests are a bit imprecise. ...

ARCHIVED Lowering Food Costs
GFinDC replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Er, no kitchen here for the last couple months due to remodeling. So I've been hitting the local Giant on Fridays for their 2 for $10 bucks roasted chickens weekly deal. I can't even buy raw chickens and cook them myself for less than that. Some of the ethnic stores have good deals on things at times. It's worth taking a look anyway. Pick your own... -

ARCHIVED Teen Dd Wont Accept Diagnosis
GFinDC replied to ptkds's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's prolly sumthin the doctors should study a bit more Ravenwood G. I've heard it called that in the past also. And women who are preggers can have a kind of remission because their bodies immune systems have to adjust for the baby. Anyway, I don't think there has been a lot of study on the honeymoon effect so no telling right now if it is causing a... -
Loved your post Bartful. PGIJ! (Praise God in Jesus name!) Oh yeah, there was a question... But first an astute obsirvation. Crayon, u didn't really need to tell us about the signature changes every month, now did u? We fingered that one out all by ourselves, really... Yes, I'm happy. In the morning I wake up and thank God for bringing...

Congrats on doing better! That's great! You could ask your doctor to do the celiac antibodies panel on you. It works best if you are still eating gluten (wheat, rye, barley). There are different types of antibodies and they tend to cause different symptoms. Allergies are caused by an IgE immune reaction. Celiac is caused by either IgA or IgG immune...

ARCHIVED Does Gluten Affect The Thyroid?
GFinDC replied to BarryC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Try searching on Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Barry. It is an auto-immune condition associated with celiac disease. Celiac disease is a chronic condition, so it puts a strain on the whole body over time if the gluten-free diet is not followed. On top of that, it can cause mal-absorption of nutrients. So while your body is trying to heal and maintain itself... -
ARCHIVED First Aid For Cramping And Indigestion Pain After Taking Nsaid
GFinDC replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Cristiana, I was thinking from that name that ol' Boots lived in a hollowed out tree or something. But if there are that many I guess not. Sounds like Boots are akin to what we call a drug store over here. Pepto Bismol is supposed to coat the lining of the gut and soothe it. It can also turn your stool a lovely shade of black, which is not a problem... -
ARCHIVED First Aid For Cramping And Indigestion Pain After Taking Nsaid
GFinDC replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Cristiana, The immune reaction is not a few days for most people. It can last weeks to months. So your symptoms might hang around for a bit. I agree, eating bland whole foods may help reduce the irritation in your gut. So that is a good idea. I would also take digestive enzymes and pro-biotics with your meals. Some extra fiber might help too... -

ARCHIVED First Aid For Cramping And Indigestion Pain After Taking Nsaid
GFinDC replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Cristiana, You could try some Pepto Bismol. And avoid the Gaviscon. Basically swap out the aluminum (Gaviscon) for bismuth (Pepto Bismol). Maybe try another product instead? Pepto has saliclylic acid in it so if you are totally avoiding aspirin it might not be a good choice. If you search for "nsaids gastro symptoms" on Google there is lots... -
ARCHIVED And My Search Is Likely Over...
GFinDC replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are local groups here in DC. One of the groups has a Yahoo group for sharing info. You could try starting a Yahoo group for your area Georgia-guy and you might get people joining from your area. One Yahoo group here is DC sillyaks and another is DCceliacs. Post your group to Craigslist and see what happens. Or maybe try a meetup event. Some... -
ARCHIVED Is This Likely Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to cao204's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
HI CAO, You should ask the doctor to do 6 to 8 biopsy samples during the endoscopy. That's the recommendation from some medical board altho I forget which one. One sample is not enough, and many doctors will only do one or two unless they are told to do more. Can you look up celiac support groups in your area? They may have ideas for doctors who...- 20 replies

ARCHIVED Weird Problem With Acetaminophen
GFinDC replied to user001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Seems the FDA is working on label changes for acetamenophen related to skin reactions. Open Original Shared Link You could also check ask a patient Open Original Shared Link -
HI Valerie, I suggest you consider yourself celiac based on the positive blood antibodie results. The endoscopy results are not always positive for various reasons. For one thing they can only reach the first 5 feet or so of the small intestine. But the small intestine is around 20 to 22 feet long. So they aren't even testing the majority of it for...

ARCHIVED Peanut M&ms
GFinDC replied to Debgfree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't eat the peanut or regular M+M because they have dairy in them and I react to that. Just saying because it's not always gluten that makes us sick. -
ARCHIVED When To Give Up On Symptoms Improving On The gluten-free Diet?
GFinDC replied to nvsmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Nicole, I don't think you should accept things as being done at 2 years. I feel much better now than I did for the first 6 years of gluten-free. I had to identify and eliminate various other foods as I went along. Some didn't seem to show up right away but popped up after a few years gluten-free. Either that or I was just really dumb for the first... -
ARCHIVED 15 Years They've Had To Pick Up On This!
GFinDC replied to Birdsong's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Birdsong, Sorry you've had such a long process of finding your way to a possible answer. Unfortunately it's not real unusual for it to take years for a person to be diagnosed with celiac disease. But regardless of the length of time it takes, there is still only one treatment for the condition. And that's staying 100% gluten-free every day for... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For An Answer
GFinDC replied to ItsNotMyProblem's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, Symptoms are pretty random with celiac disease. The best thing to do is get yourself tested for antibodies and possibly an endoscopy before stopping eating gluten. There is a really wide range of symptoms that untreated celiacs have, including no physical symptoms (silent celiac). Some people only have a skin rash and no digestive symptoms.... -
ARCHIVED Should I Get Tested?
GFinDC replied to nallard's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There may be new tests available in the future that won't require a months long gluten challenge. So it might be better to wait a while on the testing. The upshot of getting tested for her is a doctor will either say: A: You have celiac disease and can't eat gluten ever. And she would have to go on a strict 100% gluten-free diet for life. or ... -
ARCHIVED Can Lactose Intolerance Come Back?
GFinDC replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hard cheeses are mostly lactose free. They do have lots of casein in them though. If you are having reactions to a food it's usually a good idea to avoid it for 6 months or so and then try it again. -
I did some programming but that was years ago and I forgot most of it. I think if you learn Basic you can get most of the concepts from any language. Although Java and and some other languages include instances and such that are used in newer Windows type operating systems that I am not sure they have in Basic. So maybe Java would be a better introductory...

The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Not real funny I guess. Article is mostly about allergic responses. But problem applies to fad dieters (oops, celiacs) also. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/allergies/hidden-danger-undeclared-allergens-lurk-many-foods-n124626
