  1. Hi jldurrani, Welcome to the forum! There are several forum members who have had symptoms similar to your son's. There are some threads discussing UBO's (unidentified bright objects) on MRI's on the forum. Brain calcifications in celiac disease Open Original Shared Link Dr. Hadjivassiliou does research on gluten ataxia. He's found his...
  2. Hi Nicole, Some other things that can cause joint pain are soy and thyroid issues. I am curious about your statement that only chicken works for your diet. There is a disease spread by a tick that causes an allergic reaction to red meats. I don't know what other symptoms the disease causes but it might be something to check out.
  3. It's a good idea to shake your head every once in a while. Do a rattle check...
  4. We had 85 here yesterday and freezing with a possibility of flakiness here (DC) this morning. At least it is warming up again today. Cherry blossoms are flying all over the place, landing in the back yard etc. Here's a link for an idea on coloring Easter eggs with herb leaves. And it's on a chicken site for the chicken lovers out there. Open Original...
  5. The dr may have been checking for diverticulitis with the x-ray, or some other kind of damage to the gut that would explain the symptoms. Celiac disease can start at any time in life, so a test from 2 years ago dosen't prove anything except what was happening 2 years ago. Today could be very different.
  6. Hi, You could have the gene tests done to see if celiac disease is a possibility. The other testing they can do is an endoscopy to take biopsy samples of the lining of the small intestine. They check the biopsy samples under a microscope for damage to the villi. Before you go to the doctor it's a good idea to write down your symptoms to hand the...
  7. Yep, no sharing of pots and pans etc. Baking with regular gluteny flour is a problem too. The flour is a fine dust and can float around the kitchen and land on surfaces hours later. No sharing of butter, peanut butter etc either. Some people get all their pots and pans in a special color for their gluten-free stuff. Like everything red, or everything...
  8. Hi EZgoing, I see you have only been on the gluten-free diet for a few months now. Things seem to be pretty rocky in the digestive system for many people when they first start out on the diet. Things can go back and forth, better to worse etc for quite a while. I posted in the other thread to you about elimination diets. But IMHO you are still too...
  9. Hi Ezgoing, There aren't any set standards for amounts to take yet. Celiac Now (Harvard) probiotics, Prebiotics etc. Open Original Shared Link I have some that are 5 billion and some that are 10 billion etc. The little buggers are going to multiply in your gut after all, so it's not critical I don't think. But taking them every day for a while...
  10. There was a recommendation to not feed children gluten until they reach 6 to 18 months from some group. Sposedly decreases the chance of the kid developing celiac disease. Getting diagnosed can open the possibility of claiming a tax deduction in the USA. But it usually isn't worth the hassle to collect the receipts and it only counts the difference between...
  11. Hi Ibex, Welcome to the forum! Here a list of the celiac disease antibody tests. You can ask your doctor for a copy of your blood tests and post them here. Some people may have opinions on the tests. Celiac disease antibodie tests Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG...
  12. They say that molasses is a good source of iron, if that is low. Anemia from U of Maryland Open Original Shared Link Complementary and Alternative Therapies Most often, anemia is caused by a lack of iron or vitamins. Making changes in your diet or taking supplements usually help. You should, however, find out from your doctor what's causing your...
  13. Here's a list of the tests. If you are still eating gluten you may as well get the antibodie tests done again. It's been two years and things can change in 2 years. Some people don't develop celiac disease until later in life, some have it when very young. It can start at any time. Sometimes they don't do all the tests. That's bad because people...
  14. Hi EZGoingDude, The thing about food intolerances is, they don't come in a one size fits all package. I might be intolerant to ABC and C, while you might be intolerant to X, Y and Z. That's why elimination diets are so helpful, they reveal the food intolerances of the person doing the diet, not some random others. II don't know how you are doing...
  15. Hi, Can your doctor prove she is getting adequate nutrition? Celiac can cause mal-absorption and that could cause the dental enamel problems and the fingernail ridges. The doctor should do a test for nutirional levels and look for anything that is low. They should not dismiss her symptoms without testing for the obvious causes.

    ARCHIVED Whole Foods

HiQuincy, I don't eat there myself. But I imagine it is worth trying. You can call them and ask about their gluten-free status and CC. Whole Foods has a good gluten-free bakery so they are aware of gluten-free eating issues at the corporate level at least. Checking with your local store is the thing to do IMHO.
  17. Hi Cathy, You can check the zip code for Atlanta to see what restraunts are certified gluten-free on the GIG site. Open Original Shared Link There is also an Android app called FindMeGF that has restraunt listings. Open Original Shared Link It's always a good idea to call ahead to the restraunt you are thinking of eating at. Just to make...
  18. Hey EZ, If you read up on having your gallblader removed you will find that the follow-on symptoms may include problems with diahrea and stool changes. They say that tends to improve over time, like a year or so. Open Original Shared Link There have been quite a few people post on the forum about having their gallbladders removed prior to finding...
  19. Thanks Karen! Looks promising. Here's another restraunt in DC that has many gluten-free options. Open Original Shared Link
  20. My left side pain went away after about 9 months on the gluten-free diet. I didn't mind that a whole lot.
  21. Mission tortilla rounds. Thinner than saltines but otherwise not a bad sub. Prolly saltier tho.
  22. Hi Seeking, Here are some older threads talking about chelation. Maybe you wil lfind some answers in them. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/47214-bitter-metalic-taste/?hl=chelation#entry431794 https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/44728-heavy-metal-toxicity-forum/?hl=chelation https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/61513-anyone-get-tested-for-mercury...
  23. Humpf!!! Time to think aother great idea then. This one seems to be shot down in flames! Thanks for your input everyone. I guess they can all figure it out on their own.
  24. Hi Tanikit, I think you have lowered your insulin since going gluten-free? That might affect your weight if you are taking too much of it. It's great that your glucose response has improved since going gluten-free! You are right that poor glucose control can cause slow digestion. Some other things that might be worth checking are your thyroid function...
  25. Hi Msholland, It seems you are in a bit of a pickle. You already know that gluten and dairy both make you sick. And now when you eat gluten a new symptom has appeared, a skin rash that itches. Well, it itches on your fingers anyway. even if it doesn't itch elsewhere. It is a symetrical rash though, and that aspect matches dermatitis herpetiformis ...
